Delaying court cases seems to be the new legal tactic!
I keep holding my breath in preparation to hear the ruling for Granting the president immunity. To me this is the most important one. I don't think the justices on the Supreme Court care about how people will view them. I heard that Thomas and one other justice have been ruling cases that they should be recused from. They really have moved to a point of distrust. I don't know how we can even confirm their rulings or take them seriously. For people who say this country is falling apart, I agree!! There is no integrity and honesty anymore.
Our SCOTUS has become a disgrace! Thomas should be removed immediately. They need new transparency and accountability.
I think they will try to do like Cannon in Florida, they'll delay their decision until after the election, if Trump wins he's got immunity if he loses he doesn't have immunity.

That is their pattern. Kind of like Cannon with her paperless rulings... never entirely crossing the line but granting Trump the delay that could make the case disappear. How warm-hearted one feels to know that judges are making sure than a criminal who stole top-secret state documents and left them irresponsibly sitting around his resort will get to do THAT and worse... all over again.

In the UK they just announced a general election in TWO MONTHS. Wish we could do that in the US. The cutoff for changes should be similarly short.
Absolutely! US campaigns never really stop. Trump legally declared himself a 2020 candidate on the same day he took office in 2017!
There's big money in elections. Over $14 billion in political spending in 2020.
Lots of opportunities for money laundering and foreign interference.
Let's take a lesson from UK, Canada, France and others and shorten the campaign cycle! Also get rid of dark money!
Brit here. It's complicated but arguments for both.
Some UK want fixed term parliamnets coz the PM just chooses an election day that's good for them politically, it's a major advantage to name the date.
As it is it is 'easier' to bring down a PM through a Vote of Confidence. Harder to bring down the govt.
Our PM called it now for purely political reasons, not for the good of the country, he thinks its his best chance. Not sure anyone knows what the thinking is, they are gone either way.
But yeah your system seems ro be getting worse. Or people like Marc and BTC are bringing it into the light.

Likely because the corrupt have been hacking away at the justice system. Reducing funding, manning, and authority. Money keeps a lot of corrupt people from being prosecuted because the government doesnt have the capacity to go after them. So the low hanging fruit (people with no money for a defense) get the brunt of the system.

I'm an LA resident. After the St. George debacle (a bunch of mostly rich white people voting to form a city this year) and the horrible things the new super-conservative governor and legislature is doing, I am surprised this redistricting happened, even if it eventually gets dismantled.

I wonder what other countries who encourage everyone to vote, who automatically register people to vote when they get their drivers permit, I’m thinking, Australia, Sweden, Canada, and I’m sure they’re many others. I wonder what they think when they see how hard it is in America for people to actually just get to vote or be in a district that is not heavily gerimnanded. is there really democracy in America? It’s a very corrupt.
I believe that here in Canada you can have the choice to automatically register when you file your income tax but pretty sure not with the drivers licence.
In Australia you still need to enrol yourself to vote. You’re not automatically eligible/enrolled. We need to enrol ourselves and once on the voting list, you can cast your votes. If you move house etc you update your enrolment. If you are enrolled and don’t vote, you get a fine of around $25 unless you can show you were away/unwell etc. if you haven’t enrolled, you can’t turn up to vote.

Recent gerrymandering make it harder for Opposition to win in this election.
Local elections this month were the first where ID had to be produced. Ever. In the UK. People lost the right to vote.
Now they want to ban postal voting.
The “too late to change” excuse is really so lame so long as it is before the primaries. The ballots can’t be set until the candidates are selected, so that should be the date that determines when the districts must be set.
I’d like to see some videos and discussion about organizations and activities we as citizens can involve ourselves in to strengthen our democracy and institutions at this time.

I’m beginning to think that they are going to wait to see whether he gets elected. If not, probably we’ll narrowly hold onto the possibility of justice. If he does, well they will either give him immunity or Godking will send Seal Team 6 after them. I mean, that’s a nightmare of a thought. However, this is the current scotus, so 🤷♀️
If they decide, yes, it means that Joe Biden has unlimited authority, and can immediately send teams to eliminate all of our enemies without consequence. Either they uphold the law, or they are granting lawlessness a license. Either way, they will immediately become targets sensei. A godking does not need a Supreme Court to make any decisions since he will issue the final rule in every event.
