I had a Precision 3510 back in 2016. It had an i7 6th gen CPU. It also suffered from serious thermal throttling when it was subjected to multitasking. There is a newer Precision 3651 now with H series processors. It will be awesome if you can review the newer model too!
i am interested in the 77xx and 55xx versions and can't wait but just to say please keep it up. You have the best review on youtube. Nobody that buys precisions cares about stupid speakers or screen finish or how smooth the cover is. You are on point Bsian. Just saying appreciate it. @Asinega Asinegad, woah that is an absolutely pleasant feedback you given me. You made my day today reading your comment =D! I try to make the review videos on faq from my own experience supporting and giving advice to clients working in the business and research field. Sorry to say I am not an engineer or scientist but I do deal with both of those field and others daily hence I structure my videos with information that be useful in a number of industries. I do my best to just give you as much raw data as most of you have a good idea which computers you would take in considerations and more than likely I won't have access to most of these computer models but at least I can give you minimum educated starting point.
Thank you so much for the review. Your review on Dell/IBM is the best I have ever seen. I have been choosing between Latitude 5521 and Precision 3560. It looks like these two share the same chassis and internal layout & cooling. Major difference is Precision 3560 can have better configurations. But I am not sure if the single fan cooling designed for Latitude's integrated GPU can effectively cool the T500 and i7 CPU on Precision. In the 100% loading test at time mark 11:00, it seems only CPU is running at 100% while the GPU is only around 30%. I guess if both are running near 100%, temperature might be much higher, which will trigger throttling constantly. Maybe I should only choose between Latitude 5521 and Precision 5000 line, skipping 3000 line. BTW, I really hope Dell can redesign the internal layout of its Latitude/Precision. Clearly, the switch from 2.5 in to M2 leaves lots of empty space. The Thinkpad T and P serious layout seems much better.
Thanks very much @Chengrui Cai =), One of my channel members have also got the new P14s Gen2 Intel version which has the Nvidia T500 as well they also report that there is serious thermal throttling when the dgpu is engaged. Been reported there are many similar cases for the P14s Gen 2 Intel version so I suspect it could actually be the new Nvidia T500 may have issues as this is a common component behaving similar.
@@BsianTech I was curious of your thoughts on the alienwares, they have a few in the laptops for business solutions. They seem to have significantly better gpus and cooling.
Hi there, so which one did you get ? I too am planning between 5521 and 3560. My display option is UHD and no nvidia for precision. Intel XE is enough for me with I7.
Thanks for this detailed review. I too wanted to buy Dell precision 3560 or 3561. My majority of work involves dynamics based simulation. Can you please recommend any one of 3560 and 3561 (with similar configuration) for such applications?
Go with the 3561 for sure, the processor in the 3561 is a huge leap forward in speed compare to the 3560. I am expecting good 50-70% faster the processor of the 3561 than the 3560, it is worth the extra money to go to the 3561 from the numbers I am getting from the other precisions I am playing with the new Intel Tiger Lake H processor in the Precision 5560, 5760, 7560 and 7760 which is in the 3561.
Thank you for your awesome reviews! I went for the dell precision 3561, but I have been experiencing power throttling followed by a thermal throttling (temperature hits 98 degree celsius) when I plug in power during my numerical simulations!! It seems that the power adapter (130W) isn't enough to support both the battery and the CPU, but unfortunately according to Dell we can't use a higher wattage power adapter. Do you have any recommendations to help with this problem? or maybe a better recommendation for another laptop? Also worth to say that the cooling/thermals design isn't the best, you will need to maintain your laptop elevated to avoid temperatures exceeding 75 degrees when running simulations on the battery. But definitely the performance on the battery is very good!
Thank you very much for your great review :) I am strongly considering to get the Dell Precision 3560 because there were so many improvements compared to the 3550 - as you pointed out in your review. But I am hesitating because of the massively reduced battery life - you measured the 3550 with up to 10 hours (in media mode) and the 3560 only with 5 hours. I noticed the battery capacity of the 3360 is a little bit smaller with 63 Whr compared to 68 Whr - but that’s not very much. Can you figure out where this massive difference comes from? Do you think the life goes up to 10 hours in the 3560 when leaving out the T500 graphics cards or what would you suggest to improve the battery life?
My left Alt key on the 3540 is not working properly, and after many emails and phone calls, I'm getting an exchange order for this model. Hopefully my setup process will be smooth!
I'm interested in purchasing a used 11th generation i7 Dell Precision or Latitude. It's important to be to be able to have two internal hard drives I can boot via BIOS in case one crashes for use with my band. I'd like to be able to do some video editing too, and my older Intel processors are not even compatible with most video editing software currently. Is there some easy way I can tell which of the Precision 3560's have the two hard drive ports? Are there any similar models that ALWAYS have the two ports? I also need a 3 ghz processor as I run a lot of older single core software. My older Latitudes have hard drive ports on the side. That was idea and real easy to switch, but they haven't made any laptops with these in a few years, and I'm unaware of other brands that still do. It made it easy to switch between different OS's too. I also want to run Windows 10 & 11, probably on both drives if my only option is two internal hard drive ports. If one crashes, I want to be able to boot the other through BIOS. If I can easily disable one, that would be best as a virus could potentially crash the other if it could access it. I also like the Trackpoint vs the touch pad, but again, it seems in the past few years they've stopped offering them unless I want an older generation Intel processor. Thanks for any suggestions.
@BasianTech I am planning to buy precision 3560 or latitude 5521 with UHD display and Ubuntu operating system. I won’t game at all. Which is better ? Dell support says 4K needs i7 and i5 won’t handle it. Is latitude 5521 with nvidia mx450 better or precision 3560 with intel iris xe better ? Which has better durability and better heat stability? Please guide me,
Hi, I am choosing a mobile workstation for engineering work which involve 3D CAD modeling. As I can see 3561 and 5560 both can be configured to have i7 11800H, 32Gb RAM, NVDIA T1200, which would you recommend? Another options I am looking at are P15v or P15s. Thanks in advance!
Hi chngoo90, I'm going to skip the 5560 out of the loop for this because its thinnest of the lot and still has thermal issues. First off after having hearing some other issues of the Quadro T500 in other laptops (not in the Dell Precision 3560/3561) it has serious throttling as demo in this video. So I suggest to stay far away from the T500 configuration. As you have mention you are looking at the T1200 which is good. Now down to business, if you want thin then 5560 is it with that 16:10 display but sacrifice a bit of performance. The P15s Gen 2 in the Lenovo is to bring down the weight so that's closer to the Dell 5560 so that's comparable between the two. If you work on the built in display a lot then go with the 5560, if you have the laptop dock and using monitors most of the time go with the P15s. So then its Dell 3561 vs Lenovo P15v, for me Lenovo P15v as I like he keyboard more, thermals are very similar that's pretty much about it that's considering if the shipping times are the similar. Hope that helps.
@@BsianTech Thanks for the prompt reply! As you mentioned 5560 still has thermal issue, will you still suggest this model? P15s can only accommodate i7-1185G7, is the performance will be much difference compared to i7-11800H?
@chngoo90, oh so sorry long day for me, forgot the P15s was running the 1185G7, there is huge difference with the 11800H performance.
