As a former pig farmer from upper Midwest, you’ll find concrete and stainless steel is your only friend when it comes to pigs
That’s a fact…..They will tear it up!!
That's what I was thinking. It's incredible how strong pigs' teeth and jaws are.
@@ladyfarmer55 if they can chew human bones their teeth are tough!
Yeah, stainless steel was a game changer.
Yep they'll tear up the osb sheeting like candy
That first slide of feed took off slivers of the OSB. I think you should use regular plywood in that area for the next one. I love that water concept. You better keep an eye on it because those destructive pigs might break that PVC pipe and water will run continuously. Good job, guys!
As with any Proof of Concept project we will re-evaluate materials, and things that need improvement in the future. Thanks for watching Joyce.
I’m not sure you have to change materials, just change which side of the fence that it’s mounted. Have just the nipples accessible to the pigs and they won’t be able to (as easily) break the PVC or tear up the hose.
(bonus points for drilling holes in a 2x4 for the nipples to come through, so there’s less potential for flexing)
Love some before bed entertainment. Thank you!
Your welcome Claudia, sleep well.
I like how you built the pig feeder
Thank You Randy.
OMG - I never knew pigs could be so destructive! I hope that feeder works out for you. Sure was a great idea. The Emu was pretty clever taking your hat - perhaps he/she wants one for themselves. Great video - thank you and Be Blessed!
Pigs are real destructive. If they didnt taste so good I dont think anyone would raise them! LOL

Hi Mike,Jeff and all others😊thanks for sharing your channels hope everyone have a bless weekend hugs and prayers. Great contents and keep it up ❤❤see you next video❤❤❤! Incredible Work 😊😊
Thanks Wykeisha, hope you have a good weekend.
Great video Mike and Jeff, fantastic job, well done.
Thanks Alison.
You came up with some great ideas, the waterer is a good one for a quick water supply. The feeder idea looks great too, I like both of them. Good job Mike, I like these types of ideas and the video. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice evening!
Thanks Dan appreciate it. Have a good weekend.
Great Job guys! That feeder will work great, as long as stays dry. You could just put that metal pallet under it to keep it out of the mud when it rains. Just a thought. God Bless!
Thats a good idea Lyle. Thanks for watching.
Hi Mike Erin Family & Jeff,so enjoyed watching you build the pig feeder & water pipes.Great ideas!Have a nice week end!🌷💕🌷
Glad you like it Linda. Have a good weekend also. Thanks for watching.
Interesting wall sign" Foreclosure Pending"! To quote a yukon miner,he says he'd rather go broke quickly as a miner, then go broke slowly as a farmer!
I found the lickset bar worked well for the pigs, goats, and sheep. Saved a lot of time cleaning troughs that the ducks and geese would get dirty before I could get choreing done. Fun watching both you guys being creative!
Thanks for taking us along!
Your welcome and thanks for watching Deb.
I love 'let's make something from wood' projects!! Thanks for this fun video!!
Glad ya liked it Evelyn.
Mike and Jeff are not just Ranchers you are inventing the next big thing in the pig 🐷 feeding industry. You should patent your invention.
LOL James! Jeff and I have a patent attorney on the case! LOL
you need a valve on the end to open and flush out the water. in the summer the water will get hot enough that they will not drink it and you will need to flush it out to cool it back down
The emu trying to eat your hat made me laugh!
I hope you have a good weekend.
You too Betty, and thanks for watching.
Mike that is one mean farm hand beating that wood
Nice work Mike & Jeff. I was one of those people who fell asleep during the 30 in 30 build.
Thanks Melissa. Question is did the construction noise wake ya up?
@@OurWyomingLife I dozed off and on during it.
I really want the repurpose things like IBC totes and so many other things because I want to get into homesteading or farmsteading.
I just enjoy ALL of Your Videos….First You and Your Wife are so BEAUTIFUL inside and Out to watch and I learn so much …..
You Guy’s are living your BEST Lives….
Watching from Virginia 🌹
Awesome new water and feeder. Hope they work. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Scott. Hope you have a good weekend also.
Great video brother. 🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰 From the imperial county California
Thanks Francisco.
Ingenious Pig Waterer -Feeder built by a Plumber-Carpenter . er.. I mean Rancher.
Our wyoming life I hope you have a great weekend and holiday weekend
Hammering device...whatever works. 😊
Got a new fridge this week. Offered the delivery guys a big screwdriver and a hammer to remove porch and kitchen doors. They said no thanks, we have special tools. 😀
Bambi needs a bib, when she walked up and stuck her nose in the gator she drouled all down the inside of the door. Better yours than mine. One suggestion on the pig feeder would be use some 4x4's across the bottom so it isn't sitting directly on the ground and you could easily pick it up with the skidsteer and forklift on it. It would make it easier to move it and to just bring it out to refill.
I think I would of set that thing on something up off the ground. That OSB and plywood is gonna rot real fast when it gets wet. And of course they will climb inside it and take a dump etc etc:-)
The feeder is in the Proof of Concept stage for now. We shall see what changes need to be made. Thanks for watching Mike.
Great concept coming to life. Enjoy your video's
Thanks for sharing our wyoming life I hope you have a great weekend a
Your welcome Austin, have a good weekend.
Thanks our wyoming life
Amazing feeder Matt and Jeff I'm definitely going to have to steal that idea and build on for my three pigs If yall need to Matt you can screw horse stall matts to the OSB boards underneath the feeder to help keep the wood dry so the matts would be on the bare ground and not the wood.
Speaking of Flys. How are the fly traps doing?
Thanks for the reminder. I hadn't thought about those traps for awhile.
I will update how they're doing in the future.
Our wyoming life I hope you have a great weekend and stay I enjoyed the video
I say the baby donkey is a male " stubborn " he will come when he's ready! Lol 😂
AWESOME JOB you two…!!! Terrific video Mike!!
we put a steel stock tank up on a heavyish steal stand with the same nipple drinkers in the bottom of the tank and it worked quite well for us.
Are you guys born creative?????🤔 Thanks for having a creative mind that allows you to do new and exciting things on the Ranch. Can I shadow you guys🤭🤭
Nah I just think of something and Jeff and I come up with a possible solution. Thanks for watching Laura.
Raised pigs, had a full size steel barrel cut in half with pipes welded on the bottom 1 for water other feed. Filled up with water all 6 pigs used each other to get inside to get as much water to make mud 50 degrees weather, then all off them trying to tip over, that night where water was by 2 by 12 bottom board corral in old carport very hard dirt dug out. Genius working together attitutude do not under estimate them, got it tipped over, started screaming wanting water refilled it, completely conned us
Our wyoming life I hope you have a great holiday weekend and watching the web cam and you guy's are getting moisture.
Are we taking bets on when the pigs will bite through the hose and flood their the pig pen?
My thoughts exactly Bruce!🫣
Bet companies blocked the bet. It fall to zero.
If they destroy the hose we will revisit the delivery system.
@@OurWyomingLife but won't the water run constantly Mike
You boys have come a long ways with construction skills. Shop is looking good, ranch hand lounge is coming together real nice, guess I’ve been following a couple years now, good job. REALITY TV AT ITS BEST!!!
Well it came out great! Thanks for Showing Ethel at the end, I bet that's going to be one big baby. You and your family have a nice Memorial Day weekend 🌞🌻🐝
Good ideals right there. Appreciate you sharing the feeder 👍
Just received my brisket, ground beef, steak and rump roast the brisket is going on the smoker in the morning can’t wait to taste it! Thank you Mike and Our Wyoming Life for the fresh meat looking forward to cooking it all I know it’ll be great!
awesome, I hope you love it!
You're going to love every bite of meat from OWL! It's so tender and flavorful! I've been so pleased with the beef and pork I've bought👍
Great job on the waterers, they are working well. I'm afraid the OSB though, will disintegrate pretty quickly setting on the ground like that! But the design of the feeder is really good!
Thanks Christine. We shall see how the OSB works out. The feeder is only Proof of Concept and changes will undoubtably made.
After reflecting a bit on your pig feeder, I recall visiting the pigs at my grand-father's farm. There was always the "slop" pail kept at the house. Then I recall that the pigs chewed on the trough sides. It was just accepted that was the way it was. Pigs are just "pigs". . . . However, your UA-cam posting was interesting. You have a way in your dialogue that is unique. Keep up the great work. The way that pigs squeal when threatened is amusing, . . . except for person close to them.
Great idea Mike!!! Love it!
Fantastic video! Ingenious projects!
Mike put the hose thru a larger PVC pipe yo protect it from every critter& you may have to put a stronger board as backing to the waterers cuz they just mite b abl cti pull it off by breaking that board , won't b hard for them to do ...otherwise looks good !!!
Thanks KaShaSu Lea for the suggestions.
I work in a warehouse so am used to seeing everything on pallets. I makes moving and keeping off the wet ground easier
Great videos guys!!!
I love the design as you go concept. Concepts to be improved with observed use. Excellent!! And I loved hearing the Peacock giving his opinion. Thanks for sharing. I've seen similar water systems set up for hogs at our local agricultural fair. With very large stainless licks-it spouts for the show hogs. Also attaches with pipe strapping. Half day reservoirs of water made from 12" schedule 80 PVC. Kids showing hogs for 4-H and FFA filled the reservoirs early morning, topped off, mid day and dinner time and again at night. If there was water available, there was less destruction. All around great job.
Maybe install a 'gutter' to put under the waterer to catch the excess water, so the ground doesn't get so muddy?
Good concepts for pig feeder and waterer. I hope it works. You might want to try that waterproof spray on the OSB and see if it will keep it from getting saturated in the rain. Just a thought.
That green grass behind you sure looks good 👍😎
Wow that's a good idea an y'all done a great job
Thanks Nita.
The feeder suggestion consider useing composite deck deck material the plastic based deck boards should be resistance to rotting especially for the parts that actually make contact with the ground and possibly get wet from ?
For the interior feed distribution piece of angel flashing should seal the joint
It's the base that going to get the most abuse weather and animals suggest possible to cast a concrete base wouldn't be very mobile but won't rot and doubt if they be pushing it around just be sure to use reinforcement ribar or wire piece of cattel panel for strength
Hello all😊
You can flip that pig water bar 180 degrees to get thr hose fitting on the opposite side.
yes the spouts should be put threw drilled holes in the wood to pig proof
Thats an idea Jerry. Thanks
I like watching People invent New Things.. Pretty Cool..
Hi Mike
Great 💡 idea. Lots of pigs! Sneaking devils!
Awesome video mike keep them coming
You could put rubber on the edges so when the lift the flaps it won't damage the skin of there heads.
Nice job on the pig water system and feeder. A couple of thing you might consider are adding some of your oil pipes under the feeder to keep it off of the ground, throwing some duct tape or other tape over the seem of the feed splitter V where the OSB meets, and making the frame fit on the inside of the IBC so the water doesn't run into the feed.
Love your video brother keep up your Ranch video brother.👍👍🤘😄
Great innovation for the water system and pig feeder. I would have painted the bottom of the OSB to help prevent moisture from soaking up into the OSB. You and Jeff work so well together it's amazing. Always enjoy your videos and the ways you think of things to help save money for the ranch. Pretty soon, you'll have a herd of pigs like you do for the cows. Enjoy and be safe.
The other thing you might want to think about what happens when it rains. Is the feed going to stay dry?🤔🙏💜
Great design. I could see rain getting in aroumd the sides tho. Love the water pipe.
Emu wants your hat! LOL Great pig feeder.
What I use I go to Harbor freight and get there JB weld. Clean rough it up put the JB weld on it let dry and it works great
Pigs 1 Mike & Jeff 0 Pigs say bring it on!
LOL They are worthy opponents.
Good job mike
Gold Shaw Farm in Vermont and Morgan is quite brilliant like you guys are..❤
feeder should work as long as it doesn't rain , feed will turn to mush . Also think the small pigs will be able to get inside of it .
We have 4 pigs on your veggie plot site at the moment. They held in with an electric fence two strands. They do like scratching. At the moment their favourite is rhubarb roots. They sit on them and scratch.
I love it when they do zoomies just before it starts to get dark, and then suddenly collapse in a heap.
Much bigger type of pig, mostly Gloucestershire old spot and a bit of Tamworth in the mix so they are a spotty pale brown. Definitely GOS type droopy ears. Maybe they are Oxford Sandy and Blacks which means they will not get so big.
I have been away for 3 weeks and I am sure they have doubled in size.
They are supposed to be clearing plots, but we have not had much rain so they are not doing much digging.
But they do not seem to be much bother. They do love eating weeds, though unfortunately they do not seem to like stinging nettles very much.
They do not seem to get out, if they did it would be a real pain, they are surrounded by vegetable growing plots. I had a few escaped piglets one year they got under the wire but luckily they were still too small to dig up very much.
Looks like you need more water nipples.
They have two galvanised feed troughs one for water and one for feed. They are filled twice a day and twice a day they are upside down.
Mike if I were you I would build a metal cage around PVC for sure they are going to bite a hole in it then you know... thoughts. 🤔🙏💜
Just a suggestion Mike I notice on the feed bin etc ..from before the problem with the feed sticking use the osb for structure then line with thin sheet metal to make it slicker? I know your trying to make it on a tight budget but i think the sheet metal lining the inside would make life easier...Love the videos.....
These pigs are so happy 😂❤
Great job guys God bless you ❤😊
Thank you Rebecca.
If it rains it's just gonna fill up with water along the sides of that tote you're probably gonna have to put a roof over it
Reduce, reuse, recycle. And that's in order of impact! Reduce has the biggest impact and recycle has the smallest. This is classed as reused. And it's in an attempt to reduce feed waste.
Looks like your getting a million dollar rain. Boy it's tough out there.
Look like yall done a great job on the pig feeder
Thanks Brad.
It is useful to repurpose IBC's for lots for projects
I agree. IBC's can be used for a lot of things. Thanks for watching Earl.
I can see rain water going down the side and into the feed
You can't beat a good pork sausage!!
You might consider PVC lumber materials. Does not rot out even sitting in the mud. Can even hold water if desired. Home Depot here shows 3/4"x4'x8' sheet @ $150 and a 3/4"x3 1/2"x 8' piece at $20. It can be cut and assembled like wood but for the pigs probably use some glue as well. Not cheap but how long will OSB last with pigs and in the weather, maybe a season. For what you currently have maybe use the metal bottom from the tote under the feeder so it can be off the ground a few inches.
You've invented the Galloway Lake Pig Feeder! Everyone with want them!
LOL Mario, We have a marketing plan already in mind now! LOL
The pig feeder and the pig waterer are interesting designs. Is there a patent pending stamp on the "OWL Pig Feeder"? . . . just wondering. 😊
Reduce Reuse Recycle!!! Great job!
Creative thinking is hard! Don't beat yourself up. After all, it seemed like the thing to do at the time.
Its beginning to look good
Looks like the pigs are liking it
Thanks Terresia. They seem to be taking to it.
Just a suggestion why you set the pig on center blocks to keep itb off the ground cause sooner or later after that wood gets wet it will start rot at some point that was a great idea
Thanks for sharing, nice video with some great ideas. Was wondering if light weight tin lids might be easier for the pigs to open. Some how I’m sure you know by now if that is a solution looking for a problem that doesn’t exist. 😂wishing you and your family the best.
Interesting concept on the pig feeder. I think you might consider building the next one with a pallet fork cutouts or an easier way to fork it around. If your skiddy will pick it up loaded you can pull the whole tote out and fill it right from the grinder/mixer then fork it back into place and skip the tote bags with the tractor. And share link for the replaceable top on the IBC totes? I have 10inch factory tops and I use IBC totes for bulk feed storage, i have a small pellet grill auger on my drill to get the feed out.
Its recycle reuse repurpose. Love the feeder hope in works well .
Thanks Feathered Life.
What about using metal flashing over the "peak" inside the feeder? It would prevent feed from getting up on or falling between the joint there.
The joint is pretty tight at the moment, but its one of the places we will keep an eye on. Thanks for watching Dawn.
