    I’m in the process of doing this same style wall. I picked up some tips from your video. One thing that I wish you would have highlighted was the corner slat being installed. That’s a much crisper look than what I had planed! Thanks for the tip!

    You obviously do this for a living but you mentioned several techniques and tips that other people have never mentioned. The 45 and nailing the sides are the biggest tips. You’re awesome thank you

    My Wife saw Slat walls somewhere and really liked them, she wanted me to to 2 walls in our entry way. I was trying to think of how I could attach the slats as nailing straight into the sheetrock would hold. I did a search for slat walls on UA-cam and saw your video, I think it was the third one down but I picked yours. Great idea to angle the nails in from the sides, both because it helps lock them to the sheetrock and also hides the nails. I finished the project a couple of days ago, she is very happy. Thanks for the help

    I’ve watched at least a dozen slat wall videos and this one struck me for 2 reasons. First, I did NOT know about that brad nail on the sides trick. Fantastic info since I just received my 18-gauge nailer earlier this week. Second, the colour. I really want to do a dark-ish walnut one (most seem to be lighter coloured) and this one turned out beautifully. Thanks!

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  2 роки тому +2

      Hey David! Thank you for your comment! Bradnailing through the sides will definitely give your wall a much clearer look! When I see the nail holes on the front of the slats it's super cringy plus it's hard to match wood filler with the color stain. Try water-base golden oak by Behr. Use two coats, that's how we got this walnut color. 1 coat will come out way too light.

      @@Wouldwoodworkif in case in the future you need to take down the slats, will it be harder to take them down since they seem way more secured than if you nailed them in from the front?

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому +1

      @@siIIiest trust me that is a good problem to have. I'd hate for my client to call me and say hey my slats are falling off. There will be drywall repair either way you go, I'd recommend going the most secured route

    Nice work. One tip I'd recommend is use a pin nailer with 1 3/8 nails instead of Brad nails. Super small hole and strong enough hold and no puttying required.

    • @Wouldwoodwork

    • @nijjijjion204
      @nijjijjion204 Рік тому +1

      Would pin nails still be strong enough if you want to hang shelves on this type of thing if you did the same technique shown in the video?
      I want to do this myself but on drywall not sure if the nails will have enough depth of wood to be in or if the 'hook technique' of 2 at an angle is good enough. Though maybe brackets for the shelves could fit in-between the slats and go into the wall directly anyway.

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  2 роки тому +1

      What's up Robert! That get a little tricky but off the bat my mind is leaning towards building your slat wall on panels using 4x8 sheets of 1/4" or 1/2" sanded birch plywood. Make sure you paint the sanded plywood first then brad nail the slats to that with equal spacing. You will have to anchor 2x4 or 2x6 wood studs to the concrete using concrete screws or anchors horizontally then screw those panels onto the studs in between the slats (16" spacing)

      Thank you! I used select pine, at the time it was about $7 or $8 but now it may be a little more or less. If this is your first accent wall, I think select pine is a great option its cheap enough you can do a whole wall but the quality is still good. Just stay away from oak or exotic woods... That will cost you a kidney to complete your slat wall lol

    Great video from selecting lumbers to angled mitter for the corner of walls not being straight. The tip of nailing on the side is awesome since I’ve been searching for the way to stick the wood to the wall without nail/screw holes. Thank you for your video. Subscribed.

    Is the wall made of dry wall? So with the trick of nailing from the side at an angle is enough to hold the slats, great idea.
    Thanks

    Hello there!
    I wanted to ask you a simple question about The wood slate Wall. Do you nail it directly in to The drywall?

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому

      Hey! No problem, yes I nailed the slats directly to the drywall at a 45 degree angle on either ends of the wooden trim.

    Can you please explain how you think that toe nailing the slats into the gyproc makes it strong enough? Gyproc has no holding power

      That's a good question but trust me, try it before you deny it. I did this over a year ago and the client told me it's still looking good

    Is there a way to do a slat wall with a slimmer baseboard? Like a colonial style baseboard

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  2 роки тому

      You can definitely do so, you can either plane the slats thin to match your base boards or change your baseboards on the wall of your slats to match the slats

    Hi, I currently have paneling in the kitchen that I want to remove. Could I do an entire kitchen using this method?

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому

      Yes you could but be VERY careful as there are water lines, possibly hvac lines behind your walls. Check behind each wall to see if there is anything that might have a pipe in that area and use a very good stud finder that can show metal, pvc or copper lines

    How long were those woods slats? can’t seem to find 9ft in Home Depot

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому

      What's up Travell, these slats are 8' you won't find 9' pc at Home Depot but you can be creative about the design maybe add some slats horizontally along the bottom 1' of your wall or cut an addition 1' and add it either to the top of bottom of your wall

    Can you skip plaining the wood slats if you don't have that tool? is it okay for them to be used as is?

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому

      You sure can skip planing the wood. We did it to get each piece down to 10/16 but 3/4" is standard size so that works

    in the process of doing this myself. a question I had is is there a way to calculate the spacing needed between the boards to ensure you have a full board on each side of the wall? Im not the brightest when it comes to math 😂

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому

      Hey David, the best thing to do is put one slat on each end with the correct spacing .75", 1", etc. the figure out how much space is left on your wall and divide that by the (slat thickness + spacing) until it equals a whole number.

    What is the name of that machine that you slid the pieces through the first time? Is it a belt sander?

    • @Wouldwoodwork
      @Wouldwoodwork  Рік тому

      That is called a planer, it makes all your pieces of wood the same thickness after running it through the machine
