Bill, I love your simple acts kindness to Elizabeth!! You are so handy to have around the house!! What a Blessing! I know Elizabeth appreciate it, and you!!😊❤️ Love you both!!
My hubby did this for my steps going up stairs, 2 flights. I have fibromyalgia n funky knees. What a difference it has made in my life. Not a day goes by that I don't think how great railing is! He did a great job elizabeth! Bless you both.
I am short, esp now that I have lost 5" of height. As I descend my daughter's stairs, I hold the railing on the left side with my right hand going down 1-step at a time. Have had left foot fused & two bad knees. It takes me about a minute but it's better than taking the express route. When I was younger, always in a rush cause time seemed always short. It's easier & safer to take a few seconds more. Learned the hard way, to go at my natural speed. Arriving intact is good. Love your smile, Elizabeth. You got a good solid man there!👍
It was not installed for a short person because the BOTTOM of the railing was correct at 36", but the TOP was only 21". If it was for a short person, they wouldn't have been able to reach it at the bottom. It was just simply installed incorrectly!
I’ve learned so much from your handy work and actually enjoy it! It’s the little things that are so important. Love seeing Elizabeth’s joy!! God bless you both always ❤
Elizabeth, just a little tip for whenever you are going Down the stairs. My doctor told me to walk “Backwards” down the steps. I’ve been doing this for several years now and it makes such a difference to my knees etc. Believe me, many of my friends laughed at me, then they tried it and came back to me to “Thank” me. They couldn’t believe the difference it has made. At first it feels awkward and you may feel a little silly at first but then you will see what a difference it makes to going down stairs. Of course I don’t go down backwards when I’m out in public, I would feel embarrassed, lol! But at home, I always go down to my basement backwards. Takes awhile to get used to it and always hold onto the handrail. Good Luck with your new handrail, you’re hubby is a darling. 😁👍🥰🙏
Wow...that was one crazy and dangerous railing. It was an accident waiting to happen. Bill to the rescue. You and Elizabeth are now safe. I love your new railing.
Bill you and Elizabeth are so enjoyable to watch. You are certainly a team. I know how appreciative the little things mean when we have little items that would make life so much easier! Great video and I think I could even enjoy one of those getting up the back steps. Our ground is dirt and uneven and a big jump to the first step so that rail would be perfect here too. I may look into that. After we get the ground leveled out it would still be of a great assist. Good video and great assist. Blessings
What a great fix for every adult using those stairs. I saw the appreciation on Elizabeth's face the first time she came down the steps. You're a good man, Bill. Y'all have a Blessed day.
Thank you Bill, as usual explaining all your repairs/ builds, from major to simplicity.. Elizabeth, I agree the railing was AWKWARD.. The beaming smile you give Bill, while it's just Beautiful and Thankful for all he does to help keep you safe & secure.. 😁❤🌹
You make it look sooooo easy. John and I take forever to do the simplest jobs. Always double checking everything. Forgetting things and going back to the hardware store again and again. And of course, being British, and a senior.. As I will also be in a few days... We must sit down often to relax, re-evaluate and have a cup of tea😊. You're definitely a "handy man" to have around the house. And what's the good of doing "stuff" without someone to appreciate it. You two are made for each other. You make me smile. Now. That's all done. Time for tea!😊👍❤️🙏
Good job Bill. Elizabeth is now safer getting in and out on those steps. It's so great seeing that you both do all you can for each other. Thanks for including us in your lives. Have a Blessed Day !!
It’s too narrow, and it’s asbestos siding on the right side. We don’t want to disturb it or cut into it. I’ll do very well with the one on the left side. 😊
You are so blessed to have one another. "Be ye kind one to another". 😁 The kiss brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. Have a delightful day 😊
As a disabled person myself, those steps gave me the creeps (unless YOU were going to do all the laundry)! So glad you are getting right on that. I wondered if you were going to make it a low slope ramp with rungs in it or just fix it. In my house, Sweetheart placed the rail according to my short stature; otherwise, it was a 'no go zone' for me.
Praise God my son is finally going to fix some of my repairs like this around my house! Elizabeth is SO blessed to have a son and husband that can fix these things! Mine should have been fixed long ago!
Thank you for that It was a great tutorial! Always enjoy learning from you... So glad you love Elizabeth enough to do these little thing for her. You're both show what it means to love each other as God intended. Thank you for your great example. God bless!
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree Maybe that's your experience, but by code children do require railing at a different height from adults... The code states a maximum height of 28" and a clearance of 9" between it and an adult hand rail above it. If you look at schools, etc. for children you will see two sets of hand rails at different heights. While it could also just be someone much shorter or someone with special needs, code is designed for people of average height. So, for people who do not fit the average range it then becomes dangerous for them unless they adjust it to their needs.
It started out at the correct height at the bottom then became much too low at the top. Much too high for children at the bottom and much too low for adults at the top. It was the angle that made it unusable. 😊 This is Elizabeth. I’m just glad I can reach it from the top now.
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree Oh, you should certainly make it fit you. I'm just pointing out other people may have just needed it at a different height for them. Like someone with special needs, who may be able to get around but need to transition at some point between a wheel chair and self mobility... Children are just an example where there's code requirements but people with special needs can have it a much wider range to fit them.
Bill is a blessing to Elizabeth! Have you heard of "Grounding" on UA-cam? Since you love outside, just kick off your shoes and enjoy the grass. May change your life. I love your videos. Blessings to both of you
Aw Elizabeth & Bill It's so heart-felt to see you two in this setting! You both are very Blessed! Also thank you Bill for this diy I believe I could do a railing now!
A ramp is not needed at this point. If we need a ramp, there’s one at the front door. The ramp would come so far out into the carport that we would not be able to park the car there.
We had considered two railings. But the steps are already narrow. A handrail on the other side would make them TOO narrow. Also, the other side has the asbestos siding, which is not a problem as long as you keep it encased in painted and don't disturb it. But we don't want to start drilling into it and causing asbestos dust!
You two are so cute! Thank you for sharing this information on hand rails. My nephew is installing one at his house for his mom and me. The old folks, lol. Blessings to you both.
Considering it’s that low Bill, maybe there was at one point someone was handicapped person or a person of short stature . Definitely needs replaced. Looks good. Elizabeth if you feel the need while going down, you can secure yourself by holding on using both hands, thus turning a bit side ways. I am older than you (66)and I most often go down my steps using this method.
It was not installed for a short person because the BOTTOM of the railing was correct at 36", but the TOP was only 21". If it was for a short person, they wouldn't have been able to reach it at the bottom. It was just simply installed incorrectly!
I love that Bill looks after your safety and installs a new railing for you Elizabeth!! So sweet!! You are both so blessed!!❤
I sure appreciate the new railing! I use it a lot!
Bill, I love your simple acts kindness to Elizabeth!! You are so handy to have around the house!! What a Blessing! I know Elizabeth appreciate it, and you!!😊❤️ Love you both!!
What a precious family. God bless y’all. ❤️
It’s so fun watching Bill work on you new Florida house. Can’t wait to watch it all come together. 😄

The new chair railing looks so much safer! Good job!
Maybe it was for grandbabies. Thanks for doing that for Elizabeth and for sharing. God bless and protect.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Bill, thanks for keeping everyone safe.
Bardzo was kocham . Polska
❤️😊
The rail was installed for the children. !!!
Except that children don't generally bother with railings, and it was at the wrong angle.

I've always had great respect for people who can fix things. You're awesome, bill. Your wife is one lucky woman.
Sweet! Great job. Such a relief. Blessings in your day.🙏Lorena, Murrieta, CA.
Great job Bill!
Bill is a blessing to Elizabeth! Have you heard of "Grounding" on UA-cam? Since you love outside, just kick off your shoes and enjoy the grass. May change your life. I love your videos. Blessings to both of you
I love these two together!!!
She's so cute!

Aw Elizabeth & Bill
It's so heart-felt to see you two in this setting!
You both are very Blessed! Also thank you Bill for this diy I believe I could do a railing now!
Something so “simple” made such a difference! 👍🏼
Our old friend, T111 plywood! Barry will enjoy seeing it again.
I now have to be careful on stairs too.I am 79.Warning"70s are a game changer"
Im glad it is safe for Elizabeth now. Plus you make it look so simple to fix it
Wonderful redo for you and Elizabeth. Makes me wonder how that railing passed inspection, but probably never was inspected.
I'm sure it was never inspected. And it's been that way for a LONG time.
Bill, you are a sweetheart for making Elizabeth's comfort and safety a priority.
I wondered if you might turn it into a ramp. Handle is totally hopless. Good job done!!!
A ramp is not needed at this point. If we need a ramp, there’s one at the front door. The ramp would come so far out into the carport that we would not be able to park the car there.
Love this and how wonderful you both are. Live and Love simple and free! Godbless you both! ✨✝️✨
That is a big difference
You can use another one on the other side for safe measure so Elizabeth can hold on to open door going up . Have a wonderful day stay blessed .

Y'all are adorable and so blessed,I pray you get to enjoy this house for years to come
Another task well done Bill ! Elizabeth is a luck woman ! ❤
Lucky
You two are so cute! Thank you for sharing this information on hand rails. My nephew is installing one at his house for his mom and me. The old folks, lol. Blessings to you both.
So true something so simple can save a life. Thank for the how to video, I'm gonna have my son put an extra railing for me.
If a House had feelings......This house would feel the love of Bill And Elizabeth projected on to it
Blessed be the rail.
I love the way Bill is always looking out for Elizabeth's safety!!🙏👏👍😍
Considering it’s that low Bill, maybe there was at one point someone was handicapped person or a person of short stature .
Definitely needs replaced.
Looks good. Elizabeth if you feel the need while going down, you can secure yourself by holding on using both hands, thus turning a bit side ways. I am older than you (66)and I most often go down my steps using this method.
