I don't understand the whole song but I wonder, is there a Facundo Cabral influence? "Yo no soy de aqui, ni de alla!"? I can sympathize with the Chicanos and I think his approach was more of a Spiritual level perhaps.

This episode of gentefied really got to me. My parents brought me and my two siblings from mexico when I was young and we had live in a walk in closet at friends house for about a month until my parents got enough to rent an apartment for us. Now 14 years later after keeping moving forward we each have our own home. Never give up mi gente.
I wasn’t what the US call a immigrant but I do understand they homeless feeling. Me and my 2 siblings and my mom lives inside her coup car for years and went to a bunch of different middle schools. Now I’m grown and I have a family of my own and I own a house now.

Dude, same. I cried during that episode. Grew up in a tiny room in NYC with my parents and two other siblings. When he told his kid it’s like they’re camping in the van it really hit. We used to eat tortillas con sal and pretend it was something else. We’ve moved up so much since then but I’m so grateful my parents fought so hard for us to even be in the US.

I also came here after Gentefied and this song hurts me so beautifully. Watching the father and son having to go off to find opportunity reminds me of my own family and what we had to do. The present is so difficult, so I look back to when I was younger, but I no longer live with my family in my home. I can’t often look back because it hurts, but it gives me a brief moment of strength as it reminds me as to why I had to take certain steps...
