Own four Khakis all bought for peanuts compared to today's prices and all with the proper 2824/2801 movements before Swatch group switched to the 3hz jobs. Cracking watches!! I can see why these compare well with Hamiltons of today especially with prices now. But five years ago, no contest
I always loved the looks of Hamilton watches, but I had the same experience as you did with the Khaki Field Auto. It just didn't wear as well as I thought it would on my wrist. I guess that's how it goes sometimes. This one is a good looking little watch, but you're right about their logo, but the box I could care less about, especially at that price. I may have to pick one of them up! Great review as always bud!
Decent for the money, field watches are one of my faves, simple clear and decent lume. Like the sand coloured strap goes well with the dark dial, great review sir.
I bought this watch sight unseen the second I discovered it. Looks like a real winner. A Khaki at a tenth the price that keeps perfect time without winding. What a bargain. VK-31 is such a great movement. If they made a quartz at 4hz or higher, I might never buy another mechanical.
Dear John, I came here for the review of the Escapement Time watch, fell in love with your Pulsar and ordered it from the eBay store you mentioned. Many thanks for the awesome content you create!
Escape Wheel Time reviewer said they told him they are bringing this out with a white dial next. Hope they start offering an unbranded dial. Lovely watch for the price.
This watch finally became available again for $49! So I ordered it right away before it would probably sell out again. There were two other color options too: white and salmon. Thanks for the review!
Escapement Time. Yeah. That name and logo. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. They make great watches though. More importantly, I’m going to have to check out your guy who sells the Restomod Pulsars! Thanks as always.
Great review ive just ordered one of these for £49 incl taxes to the uk.....specs for the price....The WR is better than Hamilton straight off the bat !!! Yes has not got Sapphire but come on the price reflects the specs....Great homage in my honest opinion to the Hamilton...Which are expensive nowadays for budget collectors..
Your videos are so beautifully shot , really love your channel, thanks for all the videos. Backing song .. I checked it out thinking it was an instrumental of get lucky by daft punk 😂… I was wrong 😂
It is and it scratches pretty badly. I mistakenly said hardlex when this is in fact ordinary mineral which I have found better over the last thirty years. All of my Seikos with hardlex are scratched...not so my mineral crystal watches :)
went for the militado ML05 almost the same but they managed to include a sapphire crystal with clear AR. got it for 35usd which is amazing for what it brings to the table
Yep. I have it too. Got it a couple of days ago. The 36 mm version was a little disappointing. Hands got lost and Lume was terrible. This looks better in terms of the hands but we shall see how the Lume performs :)
John, have you ever considered the Citizen Garrison (eco-drive)…? I bought one over 10 yrs ago, it had been hidden in a drawer for over 5 yrs; I found it, put it in the sun for a few hours and it’s back to life awaiting a new NATO strap. I’m leaning towards the Militado ML05 as a good everyday watch over the Escapement due to the atrocious marking of theirs.
Great review, I enjoyed the cupboard of doom, do you have a poltergeist? 😁 I really like the watch, agreed the logo/name isn't suited to a field watch, but I could live with it at this price.
I tried not to swaer on camera. Because I had to get 4;watches in the shot my camera and hands were at shoulder height when I saw the watch go! Fortunately it did hit the shopping bags first but I nearly smacked my head off of the other shelves. I really don't like that cupboard haha! I agree with you on the watch but it would be best if they just put a logo on the dial instead of what they do now...and that box....that was the horror show !
I can't help but notice the odd minute markers that don't follow the curve of the inner casing but have a weird flat edge cut off between each hour marker (like the flat sides to an octagon etc). It spoils the design for me.
I hadn't noticed that, but I went back and had another look and see what you mean. I think it might be an optical illusion caused by the triangle hour markers. If you cover the outside of the minute track and just look at the inner ends of the markers, I think they look like they are in a smooth curve as you would expect.
Just wanted to ask you about the pulsar. Really love the aesthetic of the watch. Want to buy one but bit wary of it being a kinetic. Should I pull the trigger? Feedback would be appreciated.
Great question. I still have mine and it's my most worn watch and probably my favourite. It is without question the most accurate watch I have ever owned. It runs at roughly plus one second per month! A kinetic movement has to be worn. If you wear it consistently you will never have issues with it. I regularly leave mine sitting for two to three days without issue. If you wear it for a day and leave it for a week then the capacitor will lose charge so you have to commit to it. I live a busy lifestyle and like a rugged and reliable watch. This is probably 14 years old and still has the same mineral crystal and cyclops. No major scratches and only the tiniest of marks from doing gardening and DIY...including my cabin. Office re-build earlier in the year. Have at it I say...I hope this helps :)
Great review, from start to finish. I can see your personality showing through, which says a lot. Furry cat, lovely Scottish lad. I'm a Northerner (Bolton Greater Manchester), you've got yourself a subscriber. Stay safe 👍🏼
@johnswatchjoint Thanks for the reply, appreciated. I'm very new to watches..so not sure what you mean by bead blasted and making a bracelet difficult. Apologies for dumb question, if possible could you explain that for a dummy. Ps I asked the question re straps before watching full vid. Patience not my strength. . Your all over it
Bead blasted is a matte finish. Not brushed or polished. There are not many bead blasted bracelets out there. The watch , just like the Hamilton Khaki it homages, is at home in leather or NATO - style straps 🤗
If only Baltany's field chronograph (S5033) was re-worked as a simple 40mm field watch (using a VH31), with slightly larger hour markers, it might have topped your choices here as Baltany's current field chronograph certainly has beautiful lume. Baltany's other field watch designs are not as appealing. Militado (ML1868) and San Martin (SN0120) also make similar field chronographs, but requests to modify this design into a simple field watch haven't been successful.
Nice review, as always. The one thing that keeps me from buying Escapement Time watches is that logo; it just doesn't look like a men's watch logo, it's more like a lady's vintage parfume logo.
Good choice of watches to compare against..... Pulsar is a great way to get into Seiko movements without Seiko prices, the Cestrian is a really nice watch full stop. Bertucci would have also been a good field watch (close enough in price range) to compare with. Hamilton I'm sure are good watches with a great history but there are too many good field watches out there with equally good looks and similar performance to merit buying one on name alone. Hard to argue with a watch this nice for Timex prices ( but without the tick that interferes with seismic monitoring equipment). There must be money to be made as a branding consultant for Chinese watch makers...they're getting the engineering and quality down but man they need help with the naming and logos.
John...you have hit the nail on the head...as we both see it BUT it was put to me when I talked to Proxima that the Asian market like the way their watches are presented. The Proxima logo is a bone of contention to us but it is precisely what the Asian buyers want and there is resistance to it. As sales grow outside of China I am sure there will be similar ways of tackling it...just like Seiko and Seiko JDM. Great observation and thanks for sharing :)

As it's bead blasted you'll find it difficult to get a bracelet. The strap width is in the video. 20mm.
It wears well on many leather straps too.
