I will go to my deathbed saying: Nanci Griffith was/is one of the most under-rated, yet one of most influential, and uniquely great an artist, in both America and Europe, over the last 4+ decades. 4 decades now since her first LP release. 4+ decades of soothing, moving, angelic Music. Kudos to all of NG's work; over her lifetime, and for making my own life a bit gentler, and kinder ~!~ Proof Angels do exist on Earth, if but for a short while.
I'm going to be stranded on an island for years (maybe forever), and I can only take 10 albums/CD's with me. I've made and remade this list of music in my noggin countless times over the years. Albums and artists come and go depending on my current tastes and fascinations - but ever since a dear friend (rest in peace Bob) introduced me to Nanci in the early 90's and gifted me a CD of "One Fair Summer Evening" this amazing, special live album has been on my shipwrecked music list and will never not have a spot. Wherever you may be Nanci, I truly hope there's a Woolsworth for you to waltz through.
I have No words to describe this Incredible lady and her transcendental music... I wish I had discovered her a long time before I did... Ten years ago my life fell apart... literally in every way possible... And I found this woman and her music... And I'm still here...
First time I heard her, it was this song. I'd worked a double shift and was dog tired, but I stayed up and watched every moment of that show, even though it was nearly 2 a.m. Simply a beautiful woman with an angelic voice....
Nanci is grace. This song breaks my heart. Nanci Griffith is a first-rate storytelling and refined musician, because with simplicity she puts into play real life stories with poetry, and she does it with great humanity and piety and with a disarming purity. Nanci's songs are so deep and magical. This song, "Love at the Five and Dime", is a pearl from every point of view. It is absolutely at the top of my favorites. If the angels sing, they sing like Nanci. Love.
Rest in Peace sweet lady. Thank you for your music.
