This is so beautiful. Like celestial angels singing from another planet. Brilliant and Poignant piano work. J Hooker’s hair raising harmony takes this melody to another planet. This song is like a daily medicinal antidote.
I’m so very sad and sorrowful that I didn’t discover Nanci until after she passed. One of her songs just popped up one day on a 50 play. Sometimes you just don’t know what you have missed out on. I mourn a little now when I listen and at the same time I experience joy. Thank you for that Nanci and I’m very grateful that I can now listen. Your time on earth was revered. What a beautiful song sung by a beautiful soul..
what a great song that brings a movie to my head, I can just see the characters, so, so clear, RIP Nanci and Townes , 2 legends that will live on in their music forever🥰
I've come to discern in my heart and mind that Nanci's passing was the opportunity to have a guardian angel in my life. Her music, her voice, her words, and the memories of her friends here in Austin, TX whom I work with daily in my vocation remind me constantly Nanci is alive in my heart and mind and looks after me.
This is astonishing I have this CD & can barely notice the difference ( really talented people here ) My band in the UK played many of her songs , I now have collected almost of her Cd's since I retired from playing never thought I would actually see a video of this album .pure luck tonight ! ....... Thank you whoever made or posted this gem .. you made my evening as Nanci is playing right now on my HI FI ......
Just can't help lovin' Nancy's songs.....and you wish you knew her .....and the guy who played the piano and provided the perfect harmony....almost like the Everlys.......
I had the good fortune to take a train across Canada about 10 years ago with Nanci, Gretchen Peters and Tom Russel. Best 5 days of my adult life. And, Nanci is, indeed, a very lovely person with a great sense of humor.
Nancy is one of my all time favs. I can't think of his name, but he is one of the best fiddle players in Nashville. Has probably played on more cuts there than anyone. Anyway his fiddle break on this tune, the recorded version, is-------well so touching it almost makes you cry.
This one song made me love her for all time, but please don't forget James Hooker Without him, this sound would not be like it is now. Thank's for the video. But I must say I love the Tribute performance even more.
memories memory riding by pontchartrain, a memory again, wishing i could change the words to the song i sang and just maybe you would start loving again why i left the road to where i'd been, 494, and headed to the mountains and west, was to hear you start singing, and loving again........i guess
For me, people like Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith, John Prine, Pete Seeger, the old time blues and jazz and bluegrass greats, along with selfless figures like Jonas Salk and my own father represent the part of America that was and still is great. People who care about each other and want everyone to get a piece of the pie...it may get a little "weird" at times, but so what if it does? Mainly, it's just about caring, kindness and sharing...
The best story ever wrapped up in profound and simple but beautiful music. The lyrics, harmony, music and everything about this version is just out of this world. Simply majestic.
May the Good Lord grant you rest Nanci! Thank you for lettin' us in to listen. I hope you and Townes are catching up on things...

RIP Nancy a beautiful voice and a beautiful soul.

Though I prefer the original, I love this. And the whole album is beautiful. I never tire of it. Fabulous tribute to all the songwriters
This was my son's lullaby. He would hum along before he could talk.
Cool.

Masterful performance that I enjoy watching and listening to often. I thank my Father and Creator that such beauty exists in this life.
Thanks again......Love your taste in music. Appreciate all your hard work. FANTASTIC!
plaintive, so beautiful
If Townes said it's the best, it's the best.

Mark O'Connor?
I think it was Stuart Duncan.
James Hooker's harmony is the most beautiful! Townes was right!
Yes.
sunshine walked beside her
Yes, "the sunshine walked beside her" has always been one of the most striking images for me in a song.
Tears are streaming down my face. I did not know she died. I'm gob smacked. I'm glad I got to see Bill Morrissey, Robert Keen and Lyle Lovett. Jesus.
This one song made me love her for all time, but please don't forget James Hooker

very shocked and sad !! Also did not know about her passing .
I think you could measure someone's humanity by how they react to this song.
Mooi

Today we talk about weird America, but I always prefere the lost America of Townes Van Zandt.

agreed....
@mysteria31 You don´t understand my words, forget it and just listen the song.

Such beautiful haunting voice exceptionally perfect duet with Townes Van Zandt?
