  • One thing you guys know about me, is I always buy my Hooklift trucks new. There are many reasons why, but the biggest reason is that I can customize each build exactly the way I want my trucks. So why am I making a video about buying a used truck?
    I recently sold my last Chevrolet 6500 Hooklift truck to Jim from JTR Roll Off Service. In this video we caught up with Jim when he flew out to pick it up, watch and listen as he shares why he waited specifically to buy this truck used from me.

      Jim what was your experience with the Texas Pride system and dumpsters? I hear mixed reviews about their products.

    I love the way you spent time with the buyer, going over the different features of the truck. I bought a 2013 Isuzu NRR a couple of years ago. I drove from to detroit to pompano beach Florida to get it. And the sales person didn’t know anything about the truck. Great content

      Dennis, When I purchased my first truck I was lost about the operation of the hooklift system, and was put in a very familiar situation as you were. I promised myself I would never do that to someone else if they bought a truck from me. I like sharing what I know with my buyers and help them get started out of the gate knowing what their truck can and can't do. I feel it's very much appreciated by the guys who buy trucks from me. Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos.

    Dammnnn if I would have known you were selling a used truck I totally would have bought one from you ! You take great care of your equipment and I could have learned a lot from you before driving home. If you have any more 6500’s let me know

      That was my last 6500. I won't be purchasing any more of that size truck in the near future. Great truck! Jim got himself on hell of a solid truck for sure.

    I would definitely go bumper pull because you can pull it with the hooklift truck or cable truck to bring two bins. Any common rail bin can easily converted to hooklift for very little. Plan for the future you don’t want to change the rail system because now your into a lot of work.

      Bumper pull if starting out is just an easier trailer to figure things out on. Thanks for watching.

    I wish I would have purchased one of these when they first were designed back in the early 90s . Back then instead we used 10 yard rear load dumpsters,all we had were rear load packers, since 90 percent of our work was residential trash service. In short the local landfill closed, we couldn't compete with the large waste management companies, and was forced out, looking back if we had purchased the hook lift we could have stayed in business supporting the local small contractors, and homeowner needs.

      Hooklift trucks give a versatility to all trucking business's that makes them hard to compete with when utilized properly. They are truly amazing pieces of equipment. Thanks for sharing your story and taking the time to watch the channel.

    Just my 2 cents Jim keep the bumper pull get rid of the goose neck easier to teach someone new or as a backup driver or if you're down in a pinch and need someone to step in quickly.

    • @samedaydumpster
      @samedaydumpster  9 місяців тому

      I believe he sold his bumper pull to his son-in-law for that very reason, easier to learn with. And kept his gooseneck style for himself as a backup.

    Hey brother your videos are awesome! I’m been looking into starting dumpster rental business and I’m starting from nothing. Was wondering what you personally recommend on purchasing/financing my first Hooklift truck to get started?

    • @samedaydumpster
      @samedaydumpster  5 місяців тому +1

      I would start with a Chevrolet 6500 or Ford F600.... I would go with which ever one has a better dealer in your city or town. You will need service, repairs, parts, recalls etc... on that truck and having a dealer that will get right on it is the most important factor. Get question BTW. Thanks for taking the time tho watch and support the channel.

      No, thank you! Your videos have inspired me to be something more! I think a Chevrolet 6500 is my best bet. Would a new truck be best to get first ? Or used?

    john, what would you say to do with the Isuzu nrrs?? They only pick up bins in park or neutral....
    You have to ride the Driveline brake

      There's an entire video dedicated to this exact question here on this channel. Look for the video that talks about the biggest mistakes someone can make when purchasing a hooklift truck. it covers this question in depth.

    I looked at and Isuzu 33,000 GVW today with a Palfinger hook and the transmission is the 2500 Allison , this must be the truck ,trans that you’re speaking of a transmission that cannot drive backwards or forwards as I operate the boom to maneuver the can am I correct ? the 3000 Allison transmission not available in isuzu comes with the hot shift option I need to find a different brand truck?

    • @samedaydumpster
      @samedaydumpster  9 місяців тому

      This is exactly what I'm talking about. the 2500 series transmission will not run a "live PTO" without modifications. It simply won't run in all (4) positions as a "stock style" transmissions. Did you try operating that Palfinger hook in all 4 positions today when you test drive it?

    • @richscott2952
      @richscott2952 9 місяців тому

      This was the first visit, no operations, but the salesman was honest and explained it to me. Luckily I watch your channel and subscribe and you finished explaining the real facts. It works 1000 times better if you have a live PTO ! I love the Cabover for the turning radius. I live in a tight area , if I end up with a Peterbilt ,what do you think the shortest wheelbase works and I have to have the auto tarp like you thanks for answering

    John, what was your payload on this truck vs. the 2wd one you have?

    • @samedaydumpster
      @samedaydumpster  4 місяці тому

      These trucks were within 450lbs of each other. The 2WD was slightly lighter than the 4WD. Pretty close overall.

    • @samedaydumpster

      No sir. The salt is brutal here in Utah as well, just do my best to keep the truck as clean as possible to keep them looking their best. Its a constant battle for sure.

    Is this 6500 able to haul all of your dumpsters? Even the 22cf ? Or do you have a larger truck for those?

    • @samedaydumpster
      @samedaydumpster  5 місяців тому

      Yes the Chevy 6500 can haul all my dumpsters, Yes.. even the 22 cubic yard. I will share with you tho that the 22 cubic yard is the absolute largest size I would recommend hauling with this truck IMO. I have sold both my 6500's and moved up to a larger Peterbilt so that I can now move 30 cubic yards as well. Great question... Thanks for watching the channel.
