  • Man, for only 7 missions this DLC REALLY packs a punch. Six full hours of gameplay, mainly thanks to the missions being really long and varied. I had an absolute blast with Raising Hell and I really hope they release more, it was well worth it. Starship Troopers Terran Command still stands out as one of my favourite new RTS releases, especially with how unique its combat system is. I wish it had MP so badly.

@@Ma_Zhongying To be fair, the film is a terrible satire of fascism. Verhoven didn't even ready the book, and basically the Feds in the film are "fascist" only because they wear vaguely "fascist" uniforms to our culture with the blacks and gray colors. I mean yeah they use propaganda on their populace, but so do all western democracies today. Hell the Feds livestream their crippling defeat, acknowledge they made a critical mistake at the first strike against Klendathu, and sack the Sky Marshall. I don't remember Hitler being sacked for Stalingrad. Further they show a debate between a Fed backed scientist and a non Fed scientist on Bug leadership and the Fed scientist comes across as a nutjob while the civie is proven right.
Hell the only real arguement against the Feds is the whole asteroid was an inside job. But I doubt it, considering it was in the path of a Patrol ship, that couldnt call it in due to the collision and the arguement that the bugs couldn't have sent it due to distance falls apart considering the bugs have space ships of their own, and can enter hyper space.

@@SunTzu176 I'm pretty sure the 'fascist' element comes from the endorsement of militarism and mandatory service for citizenship, along with the obvious presence of a 'great other' that is completely alien and different from us(ie. the bugs). If the book is to be interpreted as a call to action or to have any sort of message, these 'bugs' are an underhanded portrayal of other races/nations/civilisations in our own world, even if this is only expressed in sentiment and not in any specific manner. Basically, it is the assumption that a certain society needs to militarise itself fully against a perceived Great Other that makes it sound fascist.

    • @ChiefCrewin
      @ChiefCrewin 10 місяців тому +15

@@Ma_Zhongyingread the book. It's quite the opposite of fascism. As the above reply said, the only thing "fascist" about the federation is their uniforms vaguely mimicking Germany in WW2. As the movie doesn't go into detail about the civilization yet also copies parts of the book, all civilians share the same rights of citizens other than the right to vote, and you don't have to join the military to become a citizen, just something that makes you earn your vote.
Infact, as long as your of sound mind and could functionally understand the oath, the Federation by law had to find a duty you could perform to earn your citizenship. As the doctor says, even if you were a deaf, blind, paraplegic.

This story makes me want the next DLC be focused on playable Arachnids, Like instead of troop pops your “limiting factor” is the amount of Special mutators like Plasma and Tank bugs that can be selected per mission alongside most being locked until a certain objective is done.
Alternatively it can be you controlling specialized bugs while AI still control majority of the horde, though both can be pretty limited in terms of play style for the player. Really though in the end I just want Endless wall of staby legs.

So, I would say I didn’t like the ending. And in this case, I’d say that’s not a bad thing at all.
I didn’t like that ultimately, Hephastar got away with everything and the Federation not only allowed, but endorsed it.
But it is well written. I don’t think I’m supposed to like the outcome. It’s a downer ending that puts the Federation’s evil on display. Zhao, whilst a good man who displays ethical concerns over the experiments with the bugs, turns a blind eye to the idea of the Federation’s wrongdoing.
Because in his eyes, the Federation can do no wrong, because it wouldn’t. It couldn’t. So he denies it.
    Just as the Federation wants.
And whilst Frasier was perhaps a lesser evil to Hephestar Corporation, he was ultimately a self serving man who only objected to the evil of the operation once his unit got frozen out of the deal.
He didn’t move to expose Hephestar, but to screw them over out of spite and secure a retirement fund.
And that’s ultimately why he would never get through to Zhao. To a man devoted to greater service, it was easier to latch onto the flaws of a greedy band of mercenaries than admit the cause he serves might be wrong.
I don’t like the outcome, but I will give it credit as the clear path of the story.
This was how it was always going to end.
Frasier was frozen out and used up, then disposed of once he became a liability.

Yeah the ending is hoenslty fitting with the setting. The Federation has alot of problems (hell even the movie subtly points it out) and some comics go into it, especially when they give POVs of people who were born outside of the Federation.
I really like the inclusion of the Mercenaries, because there are people in this setting that do not like the Federation at all (for obvious and not so obvious reasons).
The mercs also have a really good logic:
    - They are cleary more proficent then the MI, whos experience depends on the squad in general.
    - They are a neutral party who handles the shadier/secret corp operations, to avoid the secret being spilled.
    - They only care about money, and while the guy did abuse his position to get more cash, they have a good point when dealing with the secret stuff, since having MI handle it, can lead to someone spilling the secret (and also less money for them).
However they didnt plan fully cause the Corps usually are a step ahead of you in most settings.

    • @TheSpoonyCroy
      @TheSpoonyCroy 10 місяців тому +65

Honestly I will say Mercs were a good addition however I do find the last twist a bit pointless. Oh but we are selling the bugs to the feds, which makes little sense in why would it matter. MI can absolutely capture bugs if tasked to do so, hell I would imagine specialists teams can do that. I was hoping more for a true bugs black market where they hired mercs because they can "third shift" their captured bugs. So you do your first quotas for the Feds then make extra profit selling it off to the highest bidders (Terrorists, weapon manufacturers, medical research, etc). Hell I find it very hard to side with the mercs when they literally brought this end onto themselves because they got greedy. Like we just murdered your whole posse going up this hill and mechanically you are as replaceable as MI, so while you can make more buckaroos as a merc. It doesn't seem the mercs really care about their people much more than MI besides providing themselves slightly better gear. Like everyone just sucks in this situations, the Feds suck, the corp sucks, and the mercs suck.

I disagree with that assessment. Mercs are usually worse at keeping secrets than people who believe in the fight.
Were they clearly more proficient than the MI? Slightly better perhaps but not clearly better, if they were they wouldn't be replace. These sort of wars are usually won by good enough gear deployed on a massive scale and still the Feds are in the process of deploying Marauder suits on a wide scale, the mercs are already behind the curve technologically.
You do not want a neutral party when it comes to state secrets, you want a loyal party.
Money is a piss poor motivation to fight or keep secrets. There will always be somebody else who could offer more money and you can't spend your money if you are dead.
Frankly the Mercs got greedy and broke their own contract which allowed the Corp to be greedy and have them killed for actually good reasons: The Mercs were trying to steal war winning secrets, in war for the survival of the human race, and sell it to the highest bidder.

But it kinda sucks that the Rejects got disbanded because of losing too many men.
Well it's fine because they put him in charge of company Ruff-necks.
Consisting of former Rejects and soldiers who are raring to go on the Battlefield.
And also, Terran Command has expressed their support for Major Rimmy.
They feel that Major Rimmy will again liberate a planet of these damn bugs.
But Rimmy himself still feels guilty about how he sacrificed so many lives back in Kwalasha.

If there was a Merc ending, I bet it would you picking Fraser at the landing pad. The mission would then be Fraser's crew fighting off the M.I. attack, steal a ship off world, sell the bugs and retire. Would still be an evil ending; as the bug trade continues, just with Fraser getting the good deal instead of Zhao.

I think people are wrong in thinking the Federation is bad for secretly trying to control the bugs:
    - The biggest advantage the bugs have is their numbers, turning that against them by having the bugs fight each other is going to be a massive game changer and also drastically reduce human casualties. Sure they might do bad things with the bugs they control later but the current war for the survival of the species is a bit more important than maybe's further down the line.
    - The bugs can literally suck information out of people, keeping such a game changing advance secret should totally be priority number one.
The Mercs were ofc in the wrong:
    - It's understandable that they feared running out of a job but turning around to try and steal war winning secrets to sell to the highest bidder was a terrible treasons plan that could end up with the human race extinct.
--- The bugs could more easily learn about the tech and find a way to beat it.
--- The more corps try and get bugs to control the bigger the chance those bugs would escape containment and go on a rampage in places the Federation doesn't know bugs are.
--- The corps could actually successfully build bug armies which they can then employ to achieve independence from the Federation at a time where all resources are needed for the survival of the human race.
Money and frankly honesty should take a back seat to the survival of the species.
Too many people are still applying the fallacy of "the movies are a parody about the evils of fascism" to everything Starship Troopers. And yes it's a fallacy because while that was the idea it was so badly implemented in the films it pretty much failed outside of the uniforms and bad tactics.
Even the promotion to Garrison commander is quite likely a good thing: The dude, a competent and loyal officer, is now safer from harm than if he was still lower ranked and moved from fight to fight and in charge of security for a vital fuel planet and a potential war winning secret project.
P.S. Yes the Corporation was phasing out the Mercs but it was the Mercs who first breached the contract, despite being warned they were about to do so, and allowed the Corp to cancel their pay and declare them criminals... for the very valid reason that the Mercs were attempting to commit treason.

It is worth pointing out that Frasier seemed to see the writing on the wall that if he let Patel depend on using the Mobile Infantry for too much then he would just get frozen out of the deal entirely. Add in the fact that Frasier frequently manages to secure additional funds and bonuses every time his troops are in a major operation and he may just be concerned with getting those lucrative bonuses and a bit of glory over taking the safer but lower paying jobs, that isn't necessarily the right or optimal choice from a risk-reward perspective but for a greedy enough person it might make enough sense to them in the moment.

Man, I firmly believe this has one of the best formulas for a Vietnam War RTS. Obviously engagements would be a lot different, line warfare doesn't work too well against NVA after all, but there's a lot of elements that would be easily transferable to 'Nam. The shuttle transport system would be reskinned to UH-1 helicopters, bug hives would be VC tunnels, there could even be a tunnel rat unit that would count as 1.5 the strength of a normal infantry squad or clear tunnels faster. Radio operators would have to work with combat engineers to blow/burn away the scrub to clear space for landing zones. Maybe replace snipers with LRRPs or force recon as scouting units due to the lower engagement ranges from the scrub, but still have some option for city-fighting missions like the Siege of Saigon. IDK, I can't be the only one who's thought of this, right?

Didn't Zhao have a point here , given that Fraser didn't know the full picture? if Fraser revealed that they were duplicitly hiding these bugs, the people would have lost faith and possibly denounced the war. A Vietnam all over again. But Zhao said " the federation always looks after its own." and that is what they were doing. Studying the bug so as to better kill it or how to control it. Which serves the war effort. But having garnered such hate for such a foe they couldn't publicly admit they were trying to control them or that would also have the same effect. So what I'm trying to say is, on a Galactic scale, they were looking after their citizens, at the price of a few mercs purposely left in the dark so they couldn't blow the lid off things and ruin everything. Like they tried to.
