I don't know who he is but one thing is certain. He has to be one of the quickest and cleanest drummers of the modern era. I've been playing drums for years and I can't even get close to his level much less be able to play an entire concert after that. Definitely top flight!
What makes Steve Vai amazing is not only his music but his stage performance and body language, this guy just fucking loves putting on shows and playing amazing music.
It's like Steve and Billy were born to play together. The greatest on the Bass and the greatest on the guitar. WOW !!!!! Steve Vai has a new solo album coming out this month if I'm not mistaken.
I have this DVD. Years ago I played this clip for some non-guitar friends. They flipped at the scene where they cross play each others axes. Plus, the mix is great on a big stereo.
@@johntimothypascual854 yep Tony Macalpine who appears in this video proves that fact, anyone can learn to play guitar while slaving monotonously and training but still may not have natural musical ability to make listenable and enjoyable music
@@juniorthornton3819 No such thing as talent, that implies you're born with ability. All ability is learned, it's not a debate. What we see Steve Vai doing is the result of tens of thousands of hours of focused and deliberate practice and training. To say he was born with the ability to play guitar is not only ridiculous but an insult to him. He earned his skills, he wasn't just lucky and born this way...

The audience didn't match the energy. Its a one in a million performance happening in front of them and they're just standing there smiling. Lol steve really made the guitar cry. LEGEND
This took my breath away. I'm a guitarist, already a fan of Vai's and Sheehan's, and I've seen it all. Not saying I'm the greatest or anything. Just I've seen it all. This took my breath away, and I can't recall the last time a piece of guitar heavy music did that. They were on another level. I'm going to return to this performance a lot.
Steve is innovative in alot of aspects of music....I really like the Carvin amps....my first 4-12 cabinet was a carvin...sounded awesome and was more durable than a marshall that cost 3 times more...
Still watching this performance 20 years later!!!!
This is prime vai. So glad to have met this man many times. One cocky sob but you can see why!
On DVD 😅
One of the most "hype vibe" Music performances ever. They were full throttle through every single second of the performance
When he starts and most of the crowd is just staring while the one Chick is GETTING IT gets me everytime.
i love seeing Billy Sheehan play with Steve. his over-the-top energy suits so well.
No joke. Him and Vai opening their set w/ SHY BOY for the 2001 G3 tour was massively amazing!
With all these talented guitar players on state dont forget how the drummer sets a very solid foundation for all of them. This was fantastic.

the same way as I loved Sykes!
And fucking OVERRATED! Mcalpine is equally great but underreported as FUCK!
I meant TM is underrated!
@One Two 🤣
He is utterly amazing.
God bless Tony MacAlpine, the half guitar keyboard man
He's really underrated 😔
@@losferjigglypuff7017 that's complete BS!
As good as vai
@@albertdavila6808 he's better...and he also can play piano like a god. Though, I've never heard him play on an acoustic/classical guitar
I love his music.
I still listen to The Edge of Insanity and Maximum Security. He's a bad ass. I think he came up through Mike Varney/Shrapnel Records
0:13 drummer is just right in the pocket, powerful, precise, accurate without overdoing it.
It's like Steve and Billy were born to play together. The greatest on the Bass and the greatest on the guitar. WOW !!!!!

steve's wind machine working extra hard
Some say it's his greatest fan.
I can't help but to smile *each and every time* I watch this. Unbelievably cool!!!!!!
I have this DVD. Years ago I played this clip for some non-guitar friends. They flipped at the scene where they cross play each others axes. Plus, the mix is great on a big stereo.
i love the bass solo :)
6:24,Tony McAlpine, How it's possible? Mind blowing!
Yeah he is multi-talented, legato one arm on fretboard then transitions and plays the whole tapping part on the keyboard. Insane talent.
He's not only a excelent guitar player and composer. He's a fucking showman
That’s a pretty sick drummer.
The description perfectly sums up this video.
Can't explain how hard this song hit my cat and myself this music is more than wonderful
I am truly in awe of Vai and his group. Truly as Yael said...8 minutes of heaven
3:30 that moment when your performance achieves such mastery that it travels back in time to inspire Mozart's favorite chord progressions
I don't know about everyone on stage, but Steve Vai and Tony MacAlpine are classically trained in music theory and composition
lol Tony can play Chopin with ease
@@antzooma Yep. Before he became known for his guitar skills, he was winning contests with his piano playing... including Chopin pieces.
They went full on classical crescendo right there! Fucking awesome!
Not only is the guitar playing incredible but that drumming is really punchy & tight!
This is one of the most original things i've ever seen.
if you've never seen this watch it!!! all the musicians are unreal!!! one of my favorite vids!!!
Ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The amount energy they put on this is great for daytime performance
Drummer is KILLIN👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾! Oops, had to add to my comment! Everybody on that stage is KILLIN😷👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
One of my all-time favorite performances by some of my favorite artists. I always come back to this video!
I've never seen such a great guitarist. The groove feeling of this song is very fascinating
I reckon they’re all as good as each other. Never heard a bass played like that before either
That guy's my favorite drummer, watch Steve's dvd from Minnesota with Anne Marie Calhoun, one of the greatest concerts ever.
What can i say?! Hmmm sound of excitement from exciting musicians, they are great isnt it?!!
Steve is a Maverick
Like it was yesterday... 😌 ... How I miss this lineups
I keep coming back for the rock god facial expressions.
The song and the musicianship is pretty darn effin fantastically good too.
If this perform were in Brazil, the audience propably answered with crazy jumps and screaming as loud as the guitar cry!
This was the performance that made me want to play, and very shortly after seeing it I got my first guitar! Thank you Steve!
Got to be born with talent to play if not you can't learn

Glad it inspired you. It made me want to quit because I'll never be able to play like this
This is one of my top 5 guitar performances ever!
and the guitars were still in tune after this gig :-D
Great lineup there... And just killing it. Brilliant
I'm here for Billy. The whole performance is great too.
Gotta say I enjoyed that freakish display of shred
I have been returning to this video for over 10 years whenever I need some serotonin
Blin Vai is alien.. blows my mind everytime
Wherever Steve Van is there is a wind blowing a gale just him . When’s he’s buying a burger the wind is there
Awesome !

BEYOND GREAT!
Hoooooo weeeeeeee! That was awesome!

Incredible.
Incredible!
Just about all on the stage are incredible!
All these guys are just killing it!
Wow amazing
Love me some VAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Insane great !
This G3 version of Vai back in 2000s is how I started to discover Tony MacAlpine. Amazing player of his own.
I've seen this drummer a few times. His name is Jeremy Colson. He's a Badass.
