Yes, the kit is great! The body and wings are a lot of work, tons of stickers :-0 But, the result is amazing, if you are into scale models, which I am! I will be racing it at Mhor outdoor on-road track and also (probably more often) at the indoor carpet track at 5280 Raceway.
Wow watched the whole build process, quite the undertaking. I would like to maybe get into this but looks tough. Well done love the car and liked the videos, thanks for sharing and showing what it takes. Only wish you would have showed doing the cab.
Thanks, it was a tricky kit in some areas but overall not too hard. Yes, I wish I would have shot the painting of the body as well, or at least the sticker application. That took nearly as long as building the car itself!
I just thought of a great idea that I don’t know if anybody has thought of it yet, people with Beautiful carbon fiber chassis could measure out a sheet of vinyl wrap and outline the chassis to cut it out and stick it to the bottom to protect the bottom of the chassis and keep it looking new. Awesome build though man!! I’m thinking about buying this beautiful kit.
Good job but if i where to put the esc and the reciever shud be in the front lots of room and the battery shud be place across on the esc where u place him and used double side tape to hold the battery i cant wait till i get one ..nice
No couldn't find it I've lookt for quite a while b4 cutting the rc shell out and yes it's a tamiya f1-04. I have two pieces let over that still don't know where they go. the pieces came as on add on .. they make look like wheel wells but they are definitely not wheel wells. the the pieces have the whole positioned where a screw might go in and the flare up wards .. I got no wing nore did I get the nose wing either..
+Hydra Inarms Dang that stinks! You should have left over pieces of the body because there are two ways to make it. Here is the link to the manual that came with my Ferrari body: www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/51521ml.pdf Can't help ya with the missing parts unfortunately. Should be able to get those from TQ racing though.
hi justin.just another question when you painted the body did you paint the black first then just paint the red over the top of it without masking off the black.??
Very Nice....very nice, If you don't mind me asking, how much $$$$$ did it set you back .Just the car, not worried about the handset. Thanks....great job on the build..
Sounds good! Yes I still have my RC cars (4 of them now) and airplanes (2 of them), but don't spend as much time with them as I have in the past due to racing my real cars :( I have been wanting to make a new video of this Tamiya F104 because it is such a great looking F1 car, maybe soon!
Hi, that´s a great looking cars !!! Does the kit come with the red paint for the body and decals ?. How much was it complete chasis, body, engine receiver and controller ?
hi sir,,can you help me please, what kind 7.2 v battery do you use for this rc,cause i bought tamiya racing pack battery seem not really good. fyi,i just bought tamiya f1 2012 XB rtr. please reply. thanks
Hi, this is what I use in the Tamiya F104v2: amzn.to/2mNGSqP Something like that should work fine, you just need the "shorty" style pack with whatever connectors you use.
BTR Justin and i just need tamiya’s battery connector, right? such as this one ? Battery Charger Charging Cable: AIRSOFT Male (Tamiya Mini) to 4mm Bullet Banana Plugs www.amazon.com/dp/B0714CK7SS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Jn.wBb74B4E14
hey thanks for that justin.love the car looks great ive got the f103 but i think this is the better from the two.how do you think one of these would go with a 8.5 turn .im using a tekin rs gen 2 8.5 so will see how it handles.👍👍
+Justin Thorsson Hey sure, and thanks, I love this car too! The f104 is definitely the better of the two cars, I had an f103 for a little while as well. I'll be honest that 8.5t motor is going to be a LOT to handle for that car, almost uncontrollable. My videos of racing/driving are with a 21.5t motor and it is plenty fast. I think with an 8.5t you will just be spinning tires constantly.
hi justin justin here, the battery ur using is it s hard case one .ive bought the kit and helps to know what gear to putin it and what fits .would it make a difference if it was a 4400..
+Justin Thorsson Hi Justin, yes it is a hard case Lipo battery (the "shorty" style). The mah doesn't really matter for F1 since they use such slow motors, 4400mah would be fine.
Hi Brian, you will need a "tamiya spur gear adapter" and then the 48p or 64p gears themselves. Just do a google search for the adapter and order your gears. The adapter is just a sleeve that fits in between the axle and spur gear so it fits properly. Good luck!
the wheels you have on are the metal plated ones ,different to the ones in the video.did you glue them the same method as these wheels have a very big lip on both sides a bit harder to glue.!😕
+Justin Thorsson Similar technique for the silver wheels. Yes, they have a lip on them (which I think makes it easier) and you just need to seat the tire edge up against the lip, then apply glue to the edge just like with the black wheels in the video. Good luck!
+Justin Thorsson Yes, as I said very similar process. The Tamiya wheels, that come with the F104, need Tamiya tires that will fit onto the wheel with a lip. The tire should also have a lip that lines up with the lip on the wheel. Once it is fitted on, then you peel the tire back a tiny bit and apply the glue around the lip.
Actually in my experience the front wing can take a severe beating and does a good job staying intact. It will get a bit deformed but that was about it. I gave it a lot of testing with my poor driving when learning :D
nice paint job. I just received my body shell. for the f104 .. and let me say as excited as I was at first after opening the box where the rc shell was sitting in. I noticed that it came with no stickers and no manual like WTF I'm not the one to get dwn and out but after paying a pretty penny for the rc shell. you would at least think that they would have sent instructions with there product .. why not sale a boat to someone with a hole in it and no engine and shove him off at sea ... I'm sorry for venting.. reason being is that I Fuckt up my whole project cause of someone not knowing how to do there freaking job. I'm one pissed off individual let me tell Ya.. tried to look for one on line and nope nothing a big fat donut ..... zero.... back to the drawing board.
+Hydra Inarms That sounds like some tough luck! If all you need is the stickers, you can buy sticker kits from TQ Racing, might save you a little bit of trouble. Hopefully this link works for you: www.tqrcracing.com/shop/product_list.asp?s_cate_id=1307
It has been completely reliable for me, however I only run indoors. Never have problems with temp and for as cheap as it is, you really can't go wrong with the motor!
Justin's Pit Lane Cool, I don't think it would make a very big difference run outdoors, maybe a little hotter but thanks! and nice vid :) F1 cars are so cool.
This. Is. Awesome! I've wondered how good the F-1 cars were. And I love Tamiya! Where do you plan to race it? This would be perfect for the colder months lol
Absolutely beautiful. Schumacher realism is just fantastic.
Thanks! This one is actually modeled after Alonso's car, but basically the same 😁 Still have it and love it.
The internal detail is very impressive. It's equally amazing to see the scale and the design of this RC. This might be my next next RC.
+George Phillips Highly recommended! A great kit and yes, the detail to the body and sticker kits is very authentic.
ohhhh and your right about one thing the body is a ton of work, took me half the day to just cut all the parts out and make sure they all line up .😊
+Justin Thorsson Yep they are a lot of work, but when they are done they look great and very realistic!
Yes, the kit is great! The body and wings are a lot of work, tons of stickers :-0 But, the result is amazing, if you are into scale models, which I am!
I will be racing it at Mhor outdoor on-road track and also (probably more often) at the indoor carpet track at 5280 Raceway.
awesome formula kit....very well done!!!
great first run too, can't wait to see it on the track, big like!!!
Wow watched the whole build process, quite the undertaking. I would like to maybe get into this but looks tough. Well done love the car and liked the videos, thanks for sharing and showing what it takes. Only wish you would have showed doing the cab.

Yes, I wish I would have shot the painting of the body as well, or at least the sticker application. That took nearly as long as building the car itself!
Thanks, you do make it look easy but that's why I think it's tough. Again good vid.
Hap Bilko Thanks a lot :)
Oh yea, this is pretty common! A great idea for sure. I did it on all my off-road RC cars. Thanks!
Good job but if i where to put the esc and the reciever shud be in the front lots of room and the battery shud be place across on the esc where u place him and used double side tape to hold the battery i cant wait till i get one ..nice
Chk my youtube video....tamiya f104 pro $200 kit......
Thanks! I think this is the most fun I've had building a kit yet :o
I know this was a while ago, but where did you get the Pirelli stickers I've been having a hard time finding them at this scale
They came with the Ferrari replica kit. You might be able to lookup the sticker kit for it, I thought they sold them separately.
@@TheBTRGarage will look around, thanks for making my search a little easier
No couldn't find it I've lookt for quite a while b4 cutting the rc shell out and yes it's a tamiya f1-04. I have two pieces let over that still don't know where they go.

+Justin's Pit Lane that's exactly what I would've needed many thanks for helping me out.
cheers mate
Lovely install and Beautiful wheels. Are they stock kit rims or after-market?
Thanks! The wheels are the stock kit wheels, very cool looking!
is that normal speed/normal mod without any upgrade?
1:58
I just noticed that the Right Side Mirror has broken and It was black.I thought the Ferrari side mirror were shiny red color on it.
Ultraman Nexus It's not broken, it was just not straightened out. You could be right on the color, I just built it to kit specs.
Justin's Pit Lane it has been bend
hi justin.just another question when you painted the body did you paint the black first then just paint the red over the top of it without masking off the black.??
+Justin Thorsson That's correct. Paint the dark colors first followed by the lighter colors.
Very Nice....very nice, If you don't mind me asking, how much $$$$$ did it set you back .Just the car, not worried about the handset. Thanks....great job on the build..
+alandove100 Thanks! I think the F104v2 cost me around $200? I do not remember exactly but it is not terribly expensive compared to other RC cars.
That thing looks fuckin great man. Would have loved to hear it
Thanks man appreciate it! I think the sound got washed out by wind/background noise so that is why it is muted in the video :(
there are two body cutout plans..which did you do?
thanks Justin I will try it,are you still in this hobby.I'm 48 years old ,I have 6 cars',my sakura XL is my best,99 dollars runs great
Sounds good! Yes I still have my RC cars (4 of them now) and airplanes (2 of them), but don't spend as much time with them as I have in the past due to racing my real cars :( I have been wanting to make a new video of this Tamiya F104 because it is such a great looking F1 car, maybe soon!

Yes, if that is the connector your speed controller uses.
hey thanks for that justin.love the car looks great ive got the f103 but i think this is the better from the two.how do you think one of these would go with a 8.5 turn .im using a tekin rs gen 2 8.5 so will see how it handles.👍👍

It's been a while, I don't remember exactly ☹️
want to convert ,spur and pinion to 48 pitch ,can you help ,with info, thanks Brian ,Greenville n.c.

NICE. How much was the total build cost. Thanks ? ? ?
Queen Jane 500 dollars approximately
hi just .how do u glue your tyres on without getting glue all over the wheels and tyres.what do u use.?
thanks
+Justin Thorsson Check out this video I made just for that :)
ua-cam.com/video/ArIhmgoye94/v-deo.html
Is that the same way you did the ones you have on the ferrari f104 as those wheels are different to the ones you show how to glue..
the wheels you have on are the metal plated ones ,different to the ones in the video.did you glue them the same method as these wheels have a very big lip on both sides a bit harder to glue.!😕

How do the mirrors mount? Do you use glue on the those and the tire decals?
I think they just glue on, have to check the car when I'm back at home. Tire decals are just stickers.
Thanks I just finished a TRF 102 Black Red Bull.
Where did you go to get kits to build it?
This particular kit I bought from rcmart.com. They are hard to find, or they were when I bought it, but worth the find!
ok thanks :)
Ryan Bowles Sure thing, have fun!
Cool!
Hi how are you?I saw the video is amazing, where did you buy the car? I´m from Mexico but here not found, Regards!!!
Rcmart.com is where I got it. They are pretty hard to find these days. Good luck!
The weakest parts are the front and rear wings
Actually in my experience the front wing can take a severe beating and does a good job staying intact. It will get a bit deformed but that was about it. I gave it a lot of testing with my poor driving when learning :D
I want to have one, where I can buy it
I got mine from RCmart online, just do a search!
Nice! 😍😍
Glad you like it!
How many cells was ur battery?
olaf hichwa It is a 2 cell shorty pack. I believe the one I use for this car is a Turnigy 2S Lipo.
Justin's Pit Lane Thank you! I've looked around the interwebs and everybody is using 2s. Why don't people use 3s or 4s. Thanks
olaf hichwa For these small cars 2S is plenty of battery. 4S are typically used in 1/8th scale buggies and trucks here. Most 1/10th scale stuff is 2S.
nice paint job.
I just received my body shell.
for the f104 ..
and let me say as excited as I was at first after opening the box where the rc shell was sitting in.
I noticed that it came with no stickers and no manual
like WTF I'm not the one to get dwn and out but after paying a pretty penny for the rc shell. you would at least think that they would have sent instructions with there product ..
why not sale a boat to someone with a hole in it and no engine and shove him off at sea ...
I'm sorry for venting.. reason being is that I Fuckt up my whole project cause of someone not knowing how to do there freaking job.

Is the main gear metal?
The pinion gear? Yes, it is metal.
What battery do you use
I believe I was using inexpensive Turnigy batteries with this car. I also have SMC batteries that I like.
very cool!
Thanks buddy! One of my favorite RC's!
Justin's Pit Lane
original engine from tamiya ?
No, the Tamiya F104v2 kit does not come with an engine. It is a Turnigy Trackstar 21.5 motor.
Justin's Pit Lane I'm looking to buy this motor for outdoor on-road club racing, is it reliable? does it get hot quickly?
It has been completely reliable for me, however I only run indoors. Never have problems with temp and for as cheap as it is, you really can't go wrong with the motor!
Justin's Pit Lane Cool, I don't think it would make a very big difference run outdoors, maybe a little hotter but thanks! and nice vid :) F1 cars are so cool.
Thanks I appreciate it! I love F1 too, been missing it lately though as I've been so busy with other things, argh.
ohhhhhhh really ?!ok thanks for that ill keep it for something else.👍
wow
This. Is. Awesome! I've wondered how good the F-1 cars were. And I love Tamiya!
Where do you plan to race it? This would be perfect for the colder months lol
cool would love to see it.have a good day, check you later.Brian Greenville n.c.
Thanks Brian!
stickers.. lol..
no stickers but needed a manual.
+Hydra Inarms Can't find the manual online? Was it a Tamiya body or what?
:)
