There use to be a time when Pennsylvania Ave was known as "Uptown". Back in the 40's, 50's and 60's it was the place to be with all the clubs, bars, restaurants. Also the Royal theater was part of the chitlin circuit where all the top black acts played. I use to live in this area on Druid Hill Ave about 3 blocks from the Ave back in the 60's. Two things happen in 1968 that changed everything. 1) MLK assassination riots 2) President Johnson signing the Fair housing bill. After the riots and housing bill signing black people with good jobs and money left the neighborhood. That's when things started going downhill.
all look like scenes from 'the wire' lol such a great show the captured the essence of west baltimore so nicely, shame this city could be nice but it has the typical symptoms of any inner city in america, there is high unemployment so people are literally just on the streets doing nothing, the schools are bad, police is brutal to the minorities, real estate is a mess and even if people do invest soon some of the areas will become gentrified and the rents will become inaffordable for the local people, and of course the drugs and crime problem smh i know there are good people who live there but how are they gonna make it in such a tough neighbourhood the government could give a shit smh
big ups to all of the positive people bad guy remember you got kids mother father grandma if someone did something to your people how would you feel .real shit
Baltimore started going down hill in the "70's. The problem are the very old and dilapidated housing units. Nobody wants to invest yet especially because of the real estate meltdown in "08. It has become a dangerous ghetto now (even the sidewalks are disheveled) and will really need to be town down and built up to become valuable again.
Begone Enterprises Most of those old rowhouses are too deteriorated and structurally unsound to repair and reoccupy. The only valid solution is demolition and clearance. Evidently most of Baltimore’s housing stock is a decrepit shape making it one of the worst cities to live in.
@@timfisher5417 The major problem with many of Baltimore's inner city properties is that the cost of revitalization far exceeds it's total investment. Many of these properties are about 120 years old and are literally falling apart due to age.
@@squirrley9 no doubt. My point was that home ownership is long gone. Renters, and people who get free housing will not make repairs. This is true anywhere. There are plenty of examples where homes are owned, old, and taken care of.
What you need to do to better your lives? Women: stop having unprotected sex with a different guy every day, and if you did get knocked up, don't bring another possible future criminal into this world. Men: get a job and stay on it, and don't spend all your wages before you actually get your check. Start with that..
I hear this is a lovely area to visit. If you're cold the nice locals will light a building on fire for you to warm up.
That was funny 😂
@Gorgon Don Philly isn't as bad as people make it, and actually that was the state police that did that not the citizens.

When people don’t own the houses, or even pay rent, they do not care.
