Remember a previous comment by Marcus to Neroon, in the s3e19 episode 'Grey 17 is Missing' - "The next time you want a revelation, could you possibly find a way that isn't quite so uncomfortable"
The reveal that the starfire wheel was Neroon and Delenne's plan all along to prove Shakiri was a coward is perfect. The sacrifice Neroon makes is just peak B5. For such little screen time it's just soooo good.
This is such a great episode. Delenn making the power move. Neroon going out like a boss. Sheridan fed up and willing to go head to head with Earth. As for Michael Garibaldi, it's ok to hate him or be annoyed at the story progress. Just make sure you aren't missing out on what is really happening. Story seeds are being planted here. That's all I want to say.
the only bad writing from JMS that really made me dislike an episode was his abysmal treatment of Lyta. There's no way Sheridan wouldn't have had her join the staff after all she'd done for him and the station.
@@this.is.a.username The treatment and disrespect of Lyta is one of my few gripes about the series. I'm really not a fan of the Garibaldi storyline this season too.
RIP Neroon, you think he's played Delenn, then not only does he show his true allegiance - he pulls a God-tier move to unite his people with the ultimate sacrifice! Also one of the most chilling lines in Sci-fi: Bester ''Yes: I've had a nice day''.
The Garibaldi plotline is something of a slow burner, but then again who would have thought that a well presented man asking the ambassadors "what do you want?" would've been the harbinger of the whole shadow war (including Garabaldi's disappearance at the end of S3, and his changed personality on his return)? Stick with it, the players are moving into place, the payoff really is worth it.
Not sure when you plan to rewatch, but back in S1 when we first meet Neroon, he was Branmer’s lieutenant, the sha-aylit whose dead body was to be put on display. Branmer had originally been religious caste but became warrior after the killing Dukhat. Neroon completes the circle, born a warrior but becomes religious caste right before the Starfire Wheel disintegrates him.
Yeah, back when he seemed to be sane and not political, and could be a fun cameo all nerds could appreciate. Who could have known then how he would descend into MAGA madness to the point of getting axed from newspaper syndication last year due to making racist remarks.
Such a powerful episode, with Delenn & the Starfire wheel, Sheridan at the end deciding that they're going to war, you're going to love the rest of the season. I've always felt the problems Lyta faces were a little contrived, it would be so out of character for Sheridan & the others to leave her struggling like this; especially given how valuable she is as a resource, but also just because they would want to help her. It's not like providing her with room & board (in exchange for her working for them) would be too difficult.
@@AndrewLuke Yes, but giving her room & board in exchange for her help, when it's needed, wouldn't be difficult for them. That makes this a narrative choice*, but it's one I think is out of character for Sheridan & the others. *which we can't really get into without spoilers.
Especially since Sheridan diverted some of the budget to pay for his larger quarters. This was a bad move by Sheridan; imagine if someone had come along to hire Lyta for a job off-station right before Sheridan had realized that they would need her help.
You guys missed a couple of crucial lines in your understandable excitement. One from Neroon right after Delenn shows she is staying in the fire and another from Bester as he is monologuing about what a good day he has had, listen to what he says about Michael.
Bester is an amazing villain, and a lot of it is that he's the hero in his own mind, he's doing everything to help his people, Telepaths. He is a hero to them, and to the average Earther. He's only a villain to us and the B5 crew.
One of my favorite episodes. Just all around so good. I can listen to Mira/Delenn do the long speeches all day. Amazing job by John Vickery/ Neroon and Walter Koenig/ Bester.
really hated how little the main cast treated lyta this episode, after all she sacrificed, and they kicked her out of apartment without even telling her in person, treated her like nothing and that forced her to accept besters help, shame on them
I agree completely. But , From a certain point of view, it makes it more believeable. Sheridan and the rest of the command crew aren't saints. All-too-human faults like taking people for granted, and not even thinking about someone else's troubles because you're preoccupied with what's in front of you, is entirely plausible. It's a failing, absolutely. Sheridan should have been taking steps to take care of Lyta. But it's a failure that's easy to see happen when they're used to military command structures, or dealing with foreign governments.
Yes, while Delenn was willing to die to prove her point, Neroon’s sacrifice meant that the Warrior caste technically won the civil war. But then he handed over the victory to Delenn, by switching castes, and telling them to listen to her.
WE TOLD YOU that there were S-tier episodes coming! This is just one! This is not Game of Thrones. Your patience will be rewarded. Think of it this way; it's so good now, you think it's sex, but it's just foreplay. Sex is not here yet! You'll understand by the end of the season.
The massacre of civilians at Proxima directly echoes the demand by the Warrior Caste in regards to the Minbari capital. Delenn and Neroon choose to interpret the orders in a way that was in stark contrast to the way that the Earth Force crew did. As for the storyline regarding Garabaldi - you are forgetting it's B5! Slow and steady and build the ground work for what is too come. If you hadn't watched the Shadow build up - would the massacre of the Narn or the Shadow/Vorlon War been as memorable? There were a couple of thing that I didn't like about this episode then, and I don't like it now. Neroons turn at the very last second was kind of strained in my opinion. This "I'm mixed!" revelation at the end felt forced. Also Delenn is an absolute power player: she didn't get her way with the original council, so she disbanded it. Now she got to chose and form the new one to her liking. Her putting the leader on the spot was also an definitve power move. I'd hate to play poker against her. :-P
Delenn at least made certain that it was not her caste in control. She couldn't leave the Warrior caste in its original strength after the fighting. She couldn't leave her Religious Caste greater than the Warrior caste. That means she had to give the positions to the Worker Caste. Representatives of the ordinary people, that have not been seen as main characters, are now in control.

If Shakiri had walked away the warrior cast would have won. However he would not have stayed in power long. Having fought a war to establish that might makes right and then shown himself to be a coward, there would be warrior caste lining up to fight him for leadership. His only chance to both win and hold on to control of the warrior cast was to accept the challenge and win. He lost because he valued his own position over the victory of the warrior caste.

That too, is as it should be. We know Michael is and should be better than this. We just know, right now, he’s not better than this, and urge to throttle him and ask whatsamattau is very large.
Delenn didn't take the post of the Grey Council because she is already 'the One who is', the head of the Rangers. Ranger One is a separate apolitical position from the council, who duty is to inform and advise the council with the intel the Rangers have. Not to be involve in ruling the Minbari. Valen/Sinclair founded both the Council, followed by the Rangers. He was never part of the council, he was 'the One', and when the Rangers came later, he become Ranger One. So Traditionally Ranger One stands outside the Council. And the US military for example, sworn to obey the order of the 'office of the presidency', to protect the constitution and the country. So there some interpretation to that. Currently from what I heard, Trump apparently wants the military to sworn a new oath to him personally, not the office of the presidency. I doubt he could ever make that happen, but that's what he wants.
