Do we have to assign pier to behave as shear wall?? and If so then we don't need to assign pier to basement wall(When it is not designed as shear wall (designed as cantilever slab))
Any thing if you want to design the wall, you need to assign a pier label. Basement walls can be slab or wall but if you need design, it needs to be wall and assigned pier label. It is predominantly a wall and not a slab
Generally, I model Coupling beam less than 1000 mm depth as frame but more than 1000mm as Spandrel as shell element. I think in pier vertical reinforcement governs whereas in spandrel horizontal reinforcement will govern. It depends on designer how they want model it according to its use in structure.
Also please check the description of the video. You have clearly written that the video shows how to assign pier and spandrel labels as well. So that is what I pointed out that the pier labelling is incorrect
Usually I do not comment on UA-cam but this was something to the point explanation I needed since long time
Thank you for that😊
Nice to know the video helped you.
Thank you for the thorough explanations. Greatly appreciated!
You are welcome 🙂
what do you do?
God bless you sir for this great Knowledge.
Thank you 😍 God bless you too
In rc structural wall system can we model the beam instead of spandrel for high rise building as per is code??
Depends on the size and location of beams. Are you referring to Mivan shuttering system

It depends on the situation. Not always as wanted by the designer. He needs to know the way these works and then decide.
Even in low rise buildings if we are getting depth of beam above 750mm should we design it as a shell?
Why dont you try it in a large project itself and check 🙂
You can make even the stick work. It all depends on the situation.
Please make a video on vertical earthquake analysis in ETABS
Unlikely to do a YT video. It may come as a separate advanced course. When no ETA 🙂
It would have been great if you would have explained pier and spandrel labelling as the labelling shown in the video is incorrect
It is easy to make loose comments.
1. Know the reasons
2. The content of the video and the context is not pier label. It is about pier vs spandrel

It's not about making some loose comments. The labelling was the other extra information in the video which I highlighted.

@@shareqinamdar8903it is surely as you are commenting with out knowing the purpose and intent. It may be wrong to achieve what you are assuming.
