New to fish finders. I just bought a Garmin Striker 4 and was ready to mount it on my transom but I thought I would do a little more research and found this video. My boat ('90 VIP 179 Fish & Ski) has a step toward the rear of the hull (stepped hull). It is a shallow, kind of curved step and it would be difficult to mount it there, but now I don't know if that is the "correct" place to mount it. The instructions only address mounting the transducer on the transom. What to do?
Contact your boat manufacturer and see what they say as first step or a high volume dealer that sells that model to get some ideas where they have been placed. But be sure to ask about high speed speed marking
@@Bigwaterfishing Thanks for the reply! The boat mfr. went out of business many years ago. I ended up just mounting it on the transom because that's where the Garmin instructions say to mount it. We'll just have to see how it performs. Thanks for your replay again.
Mounting plate I bought has screws with it so you're going to drill holes no matter what (get over it). Besides you going to put a mounting plate for every cable guide or you just going to let that flop around?
This guy should of also included putting some 291 Sikaflex or whatever products you are confident with into the holes after he had marked and drilled the holes when he put the screws into the fibreglass? This is why so many boats suffer from water damage and dry rot.. Always use the best quality sealent you can 👍.

@danhargrave1018 for sure....try a transducer board if you have to move it...less holes and will let you move it around a bit

That's assuming you have it in the perfect position the first time. Which is highly unlikely

I use a mounting plate - drilling that many holes in a $100,000 boat just doesnt make sense to me either
Why drive the drill bit all the way through? Just asking
I couldn't really see how you lined up the transducer . Watching you drill holes is not what I was looking for.
Could you install a side imaging transducer in that location, such as Garmin gt 56?
It won't leak in water with the holes drilled?
I would have put mounting block on and mounted transducer to that
agreed.
So, where would you install your Mega SI transducer?
just to the right of my jackplate where the pad is flat
@@Bigwaterfishing why Did yoy install MEGA SIDE in that place in the bottom of the boat intead of the right side ? Thanks
nice holes in your boat :)
Drilling holes in your boat is really unbelievable this day and age, it’s terrible advice, use a mounting block.
When you have had many of the same rig and know exactly where it needs to go, it works. A transducer board still requires 2 holes
Avoid drilling at all cost. Stern saver or other brand mounting block.
Thats what i did.
Silicone a piece of plexi or lexan
