They are 5 sisters who were kidnapped by the man. On Yeri’s birthday, they set the trap to kill the man, and got out of the house, beginning a new life. Years later, they all walked on different paths, but they could not forget about the house and every haunted night there. Finally, they reunited, returned to the house, took their favorite items, and set the house on fire. They thought they could be free, until the police came.
For me i think they are 5 sisters who got imprisoned in the basement by their violent father. One day they secretly set up a birthday party for their youngest Yeri. Then they heard the father coming, Wendy volunteered to go up and talk to the dad. The rest eardropping the convo, they came up when heard loud noises. Seeing everything shattered, Joy screamed out of shock cuz their father is dead and Wendy was the one killing him (prob to protect the girls). Everyone grieving and feeling scared while tryna clean up the murder. Joy felt guilty so she was gonna turn herself in instead of Wendy with the evidence but Seulgi stopped her. Still confused abt the bus part, prob like u said they ran away for awhile and decided to comeback to burn the house as their guilt still lingered then commited arson and got cops chasing them later on
They didn’t really set up a trap, it just seems they were all locked in the basement (you can see one on the door before the first chorus) and Wendy manages to get out, leaving the other four behind. The other four eventually follow to see the house a mess, with blood and Wendy holding a rock with blood on her face. Wendy killed their father.
I definitely understand the feelings about this comeback but also, didn't SM/RV say years ago that they've stopped separating red and velvet concepts? It confuses me a bit when people expect a solely "velvet" track. They've been mixing them together for a while now.
we make them like this like we always want them always different every time comeback. So this burden them to make NEW, DIFFERENT, every fking time..I just want they comeback with just regular song or medium song but people will said oh where the Red Velvet song, they loose identity..So this days I just feel grateful they comeback with 10 great song
I will say I felt exactly like you guys when I first heard it. It grew on me a lot. I'm bummed by the lack of velvet cbs but I'm happy with it. I think if they hadn't marketed a velvet and gave us a mix of red people would feel differently. The album is great though! This song fits so nice with the b sides. Thanks for reacting ❤
I am obsessed with this song dare I say my fav title to date. I am pretty sure SM said awhile ago that they stopped doing red and velvet separately so thats why all of their more recent comebacks since peekaboo have been a mix! This is by far my fav album by them it is so cohesive and I can listen to it straight through without skipping a track like their past 2 albums have been. In kpop its so hard to find a sonically cohesive album lately so this comeback is everything to me. Especially after aespas disappoint bsides. I understand that not everyone will like it since their prefer the red or velvet sides but I personally like it best when they mix the vibes.
So the most prevalent theory for this is that--the girls have been held mostly if not kidnapped, they were raised in captivity. Because in the first scene they were cleaning up the room and seulgi was dragging a large chair in front where they sat down pretty deferentially in front of the chair like the chair was for someone to sit on and vet / judge them. Also notice how they're dressed in really similar clothes--all of the girls are either long haired, have bangs, exposed their collarbones and are dressed in white and light blue, which are usually connotations for something of innocence with that man standing behind them. If you take a closer look at the room they were in, its also cluttered heavily with a lot of mix and match items, from guitars to mattresses--clearly the girls have been living in there together, even if a lot of their things are dated (joy's camera). They literally have 0 connection to the outside world. Also notice how they keep shushing each other--the motif of silence is often indicative of those oppressed and suppressed, and usually captors don't like their victims or captives to be noisy because that would expose them when they're meant to be somewhat of a secret. Yeri gets nervous when its wendy's turn--all their smile actually disappear when they hear the call from their captor (the part where its like a strike of thunder aka reality hitting them in the face), and they're so worried because they know what might happen they actually eavesdrop at the door. the next scene they stream out nervously from the side--which doesn't even look like a door it almost looks guised like a window (but we know its a door, and the glass is frosted so you can't see in nor out). they walk out from their enclosed reality into finding out that wendy has murdered their captor. From there on the consequences of their trauma and witnessing the murder starts to hit. Wendy becomes depressed, loses her spark, reverts to wearing the clothing that she usually wears whilst in captivity, seulgi wants to go out, but can't because she's terrified of what's outside, yeri doesn't know what to do because she sees everything that's happening but is too young and helpless to help, and joy--copes with the most visible coping mechanism, changing her outerwear, going out multiple times and having piercings. They decided not to talk abt it--esp when they were cleaning up as co-conspirators...but now its coming to bite them right in the ass. THeir relationships breakdown, yeri lashes out at irene who tries to live a normal life within her captive box since she's the oldest and the MOST used to that routine (it corresponds directly with her trailer, where she sleeps, dreams and wakes, then repeats--almost like a routine), joy and seulgi fight over going out because seulgi wants to go out but can't because of her fear and is trying to restrict joy who doesn't appreciate it and it tears them all completely apart. Once like sisters, they were now more like strangers living in a box without their captor, captives of their own selves. They realize that they can't live like this together anymore--hence why all of them look out of the window and the date 13 is circled--that's the day that the mv debuts, and the day that the girl debuts themselves out into the world finally stepping away from captivity and venturing out into the world on their own. The scene then cuts to them awkwardly together on the bus with gasoline with them. They're back together, but they've grown so apart because of the murder that they can't reconcile with each other. They're almost like strangers. seulgi has coped with her music, joy has coped with socializing and going out, irene with her routines, and yeri has finally gone to school (she's actually wearing a school uniform!)...and they decide they can't do this any longer, and have come together to deal with the trauma they've been avoiding. The house that they were once held captive in is full of creeping vines and moss, a testament to how long they've let this fester, and they each take away something that's of significant worth to them. Joy-- her handheld camera. To represent moving on, she puts on an eyepatch, a symbol of refusing to look back at their past through the eye that has seen lots of trauma and bad memories, but instead to look through the eye that has seen good memories all this while--when she filmed all their happy memories. Irene -- the wings, for her loss of childhood as the oldest captive, and her desire to protect the others Seulgi -- her guitar, her music that held her together Wendy -- the bandage on her hand, a representative of the murder she did that changed their lives Yeri -- the veil, which represents her desire whilst captive to be able to grow up. They finally have accepted their trauma and they've never been as close to each other as before--a story of how acceptance can heal those that hurt the most. Then in a show of defiance and acceptance of themselves, whilst being hunted down for the murder since reality finally catches up to them, they dance that dance that they so happily choreographed for themselves whilst in captivity (as seen in the reels that joy filmed the dated old quality of them being happy together) and weren't able to do because after being physically free they were not emotional and mentally free from the trauma because they hadn't accept things yet. And when they finally have, they're finally celebrating out loud, no longer needing to be quite and have overcome their tribulations, coming back together, finally happy to be close and not so far apart from each other.
I'm SO in love with the verses and the bridge... but the chorus... throws me off so much, almost sounds like the song doesn't know whether to stand in Halloween season or Christmas season... I'm actually so disappointed 😢 But hey, they gave Joy the high note this time around
the mv depicted an entire story of them being locked out for too long, and wendy ended that misery by killing the man. so that led to them fighting over it, not easy to totally get over it. then they were set free and came back years later to bury that memory by burning the house they got locked into.
It’s just everyone taste in music differs. I like it, though I was hoping a velvety one.. but this is different, and the chorus esp the post chorus part grew more on me. I like that they are doing music to their style and showing something different each time rather than just giving what is expected. Like they know many people are looking forward to the velvety side, yet they chose a song that is interesting in concept rather than safe.
How RV's creative team managed to sneak this concept past SM's board of directors I have NO idea. The entire video is a metaphor for Lee Soo Man's removal from SM by his own family.
@kothant338 LSM birthed Red Velvet. In this video, Red Velvet kill their abusive father. Given everything that publicly went down in the last year, that is WAY too much of a coincidence for me. I don't have any doubt.
Chill Kill is definitely not my Red Velvet song but I still like it regardless ~~ the chorus is not particularly my favourite but I like the contrast between the happy chorus and the dark concept of the MV. I know that I can’t expect anything when it comes to Red Velvet so I like that surprising aspect
for me its sound a lot like feel my rhythm which is not necessarily such a good thing (it grow on me tho), but overall all, i liked, they still are the cake girls that have a special place to me
this MV makes me laugh a lot, the utter contrast between the bright and happy chorus and them just smearing/wiping liters of blood everywhere. and them at the end dancing while surrounded by police cars. while I can understand why the chorus is the way it is and I think it accomplishes what they wanted, it's still not my fav chorus. the intro and verse 1 though is probably one of the best intros of a song I've ever heard
@@kjunkies maybe my mistake from looking at the title of this reaction video, and that u guys were commenting as u were watching and listening to the MV.

Finally, someone who feels like I DO! I'm totally lost on how to feel with this song. Is it going to grow on me? Probably, but because I will "force" myself into liking it by listening to it sporadically... But I definitely do NOT like it now. At all. The video is a masterpiece though! But the direction of the song is a no for me.
Love the visuals but the track itself isn't really for me either tbh, verses are nice and the bridge great but that high pitched flute(?) in the chorus kinda hurts my ears lol. I also haven't loved their title tracks in a while but they always have B-Sides that I really like. I think this time my favorites are Underwater, Will I Ever See You Again? and One Kiss.
nothing new people putting artist in a box and when they step outside that box just a little then people cry about them not doing their old sound or concept 6+ years ago lol
I think any criticisms of the song(s) should be aimed at the producers and those who select the songs...it seems a lot of those decisions RV is not in total control of. We know SM gets carried away sometimes...but overall they are killing it. To me, its like lately they want RV to create high art, to reach above expectations.... But man, just give us great songs. Chill Kill is good, but the hook is a little goofy sounding & feels out of step with the concept.

Seulgi has said that was their father who made them suffer violence ✌🏻
They weren't kidnapped.
Kidnappers don't normally take family photos and have them framed.
I think they pulled a Taehyung and killed their father/stepfather - then burned the house down to get rid of all the memories.

The start of the chorus sounds like the pre-chorus to Feel My Rhythm
