      I can only eat lactose free Quark, otherweise I would spend the day on the toilet... 😉Because they mostly do not offer many lactose free products in the discounters (Aldi, Penny Markt, Lidl etc) I buy a special kind of Quark from Bavaria in the Alnatura Bio-Store. I mostly use the Quark for my breakfast either with a spoon of linseed oil (my nutritionist recommended it) or sometimes as dessert mixed with marmelade.

      In Niedersachsen they have FRIESENEIS, it is made out of regional ingredients and only a few flavors are available, but it is the BEST ice cream I have ever had, you can get it only in 3 locations, Norden-Norddeich, Norderney and Oldenburg 👍👌💯

      So first of all I like your videos.
      As an Austrian from Lower Austria I have to state "Sachertorte" as one of the best cakes, but my favorite cake is the "Rüblitorte/carrot cake".
      Second it may be interessting both, you german and your english speaking followers to hear about how both languages infulenced each other during history. e.g. the name of weekdays Wednesday (Wodans Day), Thursday/Donnerstag (Thors day/Donars Tag) and Fryday and also Tuesday. Or the term Denglisch now used esp. in Germany which you may call the return of an old german dialect back to the german language ;)

    Strictly speaking, white and green asparagus are the same plant. The difference lies in the cultivation, white asparagus grows underground and is cut as soon as its "head" sees the light, green asparagus, on the other hand, is not piled up and already grows in the sun. As a result, the green asparagus forms the substances it needs for photosynthesis - and that makes it green.

    About bakeries:
    Just to deepen the information about bread, cakes and bakeries. In Germany there are two types of bakeries. The first, normal bakery specializes mainly in bread and buns but also simple pastries. Here you will find, for example, the "Berliner", "Rosinenschnecken", marzipan croissants, simple cakes such as "Bienenstich" and strawberry or other fruit cakes. These are run by a master baker.
    However, there are also "Konditoreien" which are specialized pastry shops that have special education for cakes, tarts and other fine confectionery. These are managed by a master confectioner. Here you will find the best high quality cakes, tarts based on their training. Are these the best cakes in the world? A matter of opinion, there are very good tarts, cakes and sweets in Austria, France and also Italy, but the latter are often very sweet. This countries also have the profession of master confectioner and overall, there has been an intensive exchange of craftsmanship between these countries for decades. Konditoreien or pastry shops also often have a fine café attached just to enjoy the delicacies on the spot. Just the right place for coffee and cake. :)

    My grandma always invited relatives to "Kaffee und Kuchen" on Sundays afternoon, mainly with apple pie, strawberry cake or mixed fruits' cake. And in summer, instead of normal coffee, there was also "Eiskaffee" (cold coffee with ice cream and whipped cream) as an alternative.

    The real difference between US and German salad dressing is that German dressings are liquid, while American dressing is a thick paste that sticks to the top layer of the salad, while the German dressing drips down to the bottom.

    • @H3llSkull
      @H3llSkull 2 роки тому +3

      Also, seems the us way is to put the salad in one huge bowl, add dressing ( which runs to bottom) and then grab some of that to plate it, while over here it seems more the norm being - salad on plate - then add dressing on top on the plate.
      which then obviously means more dressing on the plate whereas states has more dressing left in bowl ( which could be used for next batch of salad).
      at least thats what i noticed when talking with my american friends.

      As a German, I have noticed that, most of the time, salads you get in restaurants (here in Germany) for the most have very little dressing compared to my home-made salads. However, when I buy one of those ready-made salads in a plastic box from the supermarket (I can almost hear some of you cringe by the mere mention of them), they have a similar amount or even more than my home-made salads.

    Hi, a german here:
    My grandparents eat horse meat now and then. Thats also where I tried some "Pferdebockwurst" and "Pferderouladen" and I have to say it is a nice variety from the usual pork or beef because of its relatively strong intrinsic taste. I wouldn't want to eat it insteat of the usual meals everyday but it is nice to eat it from time to time. You should definitely give it a shot.

    A little pronounciation lesson:
    When a ch comes after i, e, ä, ö, and ü it gets pronounced soft like you did with Küchen
    When a ch comes after o and u it gets pronounced hard with the throat. Which is the case with Kuchen. But Fuchs for example has an s after the ch so the ch is pronounced like a k.

      Yes. What he was saying was "coffee and kitchens" actually.
      Seems to be a case of overcompensation, as he is replacing a sound which actually does exist in English (like in "shoot") with one that does not. (Similar to how many Germans tend to accidentally use the English w-sound (which does not exist in German) in places where the English v-sound (which exists in German as its w-sound) is called for.)

    I love Quark. I also prefer the German Cheese Cake, because it isn't as sweet as the other cakes with creamed cheese.
    But my favorite way to eat Quark is as a Dip. I use a package of Quark, some oil (olive oil or "Keimöl") fresh choped chives, salt, cumin, grinded caraway seeds and grinded koriander seeds. Then I get a rustical Baguette and just dip the slices.
    You also can mixe Crème Craîche with the Quark and season it and liquidise it with a little bit of oil. My go to dip with everything. It just tastes fresh^^
    And of course the "Spargelzeit" is a big event in Germany XD

    - salad: I hate oilbased dressings; I often use yoghurt dressings (appr. 1 tablespoon is enough); swimming salad I only had with my grandma, she used a dressing made out of water, vinegar and sugar and drenched the salad
    - horse meat: I ate it several times, most as sausages, was totally fine; I'm not skittish and would try most foods
    - woodruff: I never had it as normal ice cream, just as water ice, it tasts really good; I like soft drinks with woodruff flavour (most have this intensive green colour)

    #4 Dressings for salads:
    Well, I guess the main reason Germans use so much dressing is the knowledge of fat solubility of several vitamins (E, F. . . ). They are getting lost if you don't put some oily additive compounds to the vegetables to open them up before you eat them, for your stomach isn't able to do this by itself . . .

    • @MrTuxracer
      @MrTuxracer 2 роки тому

      Das bezweifle ich. Das Fett braucht man nur bei Karottensalat für die Vitamine. Ich denke vielmehr, dass viele den grünen Salat in der Sslatsoße ertränken, weil es praktisch keine Eigengeschmack hat.

    You should really give horse salami a go. If its done right, its amazing. Two hints: let it dry for like one or two weeks in a dark place, and slice it as thin as possible. Awesome with Brotzeit or even for its own as a snack.

    Spundekäs is Quark with the same amount of cream-cheese mixed with pepper, salt and paprika-spice. Variations use onions, "Schmand" (sort of Creme Fraiche), little mit of mustard and/or tomato-paste. Easy to do, perfect as a Snack with salt-bretzels and white Rhoihessewoi - done as Schorle in summer.

    Btw. : Für die neugebackene Mutter: Fennel tea is best for lactation. If the baby has a hurting belly, she might drink "Fenchel-Anis-Kümmel" tea, it's good for the digestion of the baby. Mom's milk is best against all diseases, natural antibiotics. So if the eyes are buttery or the skin strange: some drops of mom's milk will be the best medicine and it's always available, even on sundays 😉 My midwife told me the trick, and indeed it worked against every illness with all my 3 kids.

    I' ve never heard about horse butchers. This seems to be something very special, regional.
    I love 'Quark' and sometimes make it myself. The difference with yogurt is that no yogurt cultures are added. A special dish from the region of eastern Brandenburg (Spreewald) is 'Quark' with linseed oil.

    You could easily make a video just about quark. 🙂
    Quark is one of the best things in German cuisine. Did you know that we even put quark on our skin? It is the best cure for sunburn.
    In the kitchen, I like quark best as a dessert.

    • @marcodoe4690
      @marcodoe4690 2 роки тому

      Actually you shouldn't put quark on sunburn. As Donnie said, it's a fermented product and thus contains bacteria which aren't supposed to go into wounds. it's more acting as a cooling pack and an urban myth that it's helpful. Just get a cooling pack.

    Quark: Favourite way: With bananas (just cut into pieces).
    Salads: From my experience of almost 12 years in Germany: If people make their salads themselves at home, they use hardly any dressing, often a little bit of oil, vinegar, or yoghurt with some herbs. I'm not often in restaurants, but in restaurants I have experienced more dressing.

    On the Quark, I actually love Pellkartoffeln mit Quark. Pellkartoffeln means you cook them without peeling them before. The Quark is made with a little milk to make it creamier and then mixed with onions, garlic, chives, parsley, pepper and salt. Its a traditional saturday dish, because it was easy to make and since in older times the sunday roast was a thing, this was a light meal for the day before. Also Saturday was used for chores, garden work and other things so it saved time.
    In Brandenburg it is traditional to also pour some linseed oil over it, but if you prefer you can also use pan fried white bacon and its fat, gurkins or what ever you think will make it your special version.

    The best cake to try... from June to november is normally a slightly sugared yeast dough with seasonal fruits. With a noticable high point in september: Plum tart. Since there is very little sugar in the tart itself, it's best with extra sugar and cream.

    In Italy horse meat is not the most common meal but it's definitely available in supermarkets. Wer also have "sfilacci" (cured, smoked, dried shredded horse meat) that is absolutely delicious. More difficult to find, but definitely legal (and common in some areas) is donkey meat. Donkey stew is good, but donkey salami is fabulous!! (my favorite season is definitely winter, but I also like autumn)

    but now: my great-grandmother had a tray of plum cake on the oven to keep warm. next to it there were a few pine cones to dry in order to start the oven again the next morning. but my great-grandmother was always up for a joke, she made me believe until I started school that it was pinecone cake! (I don't know where my tendency to do nonsense comes from! 😂😂😂) so much for my favorite cake!

    Regarding Quark, you should view the special edition of the famous "Sendung mit der Maus" where Armin uses Quark with some other ingredients as a glue to lift a car. So funny 😉 btw, i prefer Quark with fruit: first whip a can of cream, the stir the pot of quark, mix a can of joghurt in it, add vanilla sugar and the cream, let it get cold in a fridge. Serve with sugared fruit. 😁 oh, and my favorite salad is cucumber and tomatoes in oil-vinegrett with herbs and (lots of) onions chops. 😄 regarding ice cream, as well as pizza: we usually trust the italians most, as it was invented there. 😅and i like autumn best, preparing for christmas / Advent. 😊

    - add some sugar and vanilla and you have a sweet spread you can put on pancakes
    - add finely sliced radishes and cucumbers and serve with baked potatos
    - Cheesecake-Muffins: Quark+eggs+flour+semolina+sugar+vanilla+baking-soda, fill into paper muffin-molds and bake for 30 minutes
