The face of Duplessis was looking like a gorilla for sure. He had much more damage than Stickland who just had a little cut. Yes it was a close fight. But it should go like always for the champ when it’s that close. Unless you try to do politic and try to shut the free speech out like a communist.

The only round where it was clear cut was round 4 where Dricus dominated, the only round where any of them did. 2nd was Dricus takedowns, not much damage followed but Sean was taken down at least 5 times to 0. 3rd in Sean's favour was his jab in first three rounds. I know its round based scoring and every round was fairly close except round 4. Which meant Sean needed 3 of the other 4 rounds. And these rounds were close. I would of wanted Sean to win, but I have no problem with the result. My initial thoughts was Sean was not aggressive enough.

He might have landed more jabs, but just like you said, DDP's takedown doesn't matter, neither do the jabs. He threw more combinations, elbows, landed more takedowns, and was 100% more active during the fight. Since Sean didn't want to fight like a champ, he lost the belt

The reason why Sean has lost two close split decisions is that he absolutely refuses to mix his attack up. Sean should’ve been teaping to the gut all night and putting combos behind his jab. Idk if it’s a confidence thing or a cardio thing. If sean does those things he wins all 5 rounds against Jared and Dricus

I know people will disagree with me, but I remember watching this live and this was one of the best fights I've ever seen. Both guys performed phenomenally, there were bruises and blood on both sides, such a close fight and at the end they both showed respect to each other. Granted I've only been following this sport properly since December last year, I'm sure there's other matchups out there I have yet to see but I think this was a great fight considering the build up and skill of both guys. Would be fantastic to see them both do it again.

…as a hardcore fan myself I can agree that this fight for whatever reason flew under the radar afterwards and was under appreciated for how much of a war these two delivered. However yes brother I have to disagree and would definitely not put this in the category of “ one of the best fights I’ve ever seen “ . DDP did his part to edge out a decision but overall Sean still was the one to take more of the chances and overall show more heart of a champion then Dricus.

Exactly. Strickland's stellar defense has to be one of the best in the game and he's making Du Plessis miss repeatedly. It's like Cormier and company have no ability to differentiate between shots that actually connect versus shots that miss. Terrible commentating and terrible judging.
@@CaseyC-bg4bbI honestly think they get told to say certain lines. Stricklands upright stance gets mentioned every fight , they say it makes it harder to check kicks but they are wrong. Kickboxers and thai boxers use the same stance and that's what allows mobility and the ability to check.

When i watched it live i thought it was 1 2 5 for strickland. Now i think its 1 3 5 for strickland. Round 2 DPP pushed the pace and landed bigger shots, but in round 3 if were basing it off damage, strickland shouldve won that round since striking was similar.
EDIT: OK after watching it now for a third time for the Costa fight, I think round 3 is clearly DDP and round 2 too close to call.

Watching live I also had rounds 1, 2, and 5 for strickland. I thought rounds 2 and 3 were to close to call but in retrospect I'd definitely give round 3 to ddp. He was way more aggressive, landed more shots than round 2 and got a takedown. 2 is still close and could go either way but imo, it's closer to being Strickland's round then 3 was. Overall, I dont see how anyone could be too upset with the result considering how close the fight was.

Now that's the first time I've ever seen a fighter take a sip from a Monster drink between rounds, that shit is poison.
It’s water. They have to put it in a bottle with a Monster label due to the UFCs sponsorship commitments. Also why they hold an empty Monster can at the end of the fight.
I thought it was comical at the end when his corner guy handed Sean the empty can when they were preparing to give the post fight results and he tried to take a drink. Then realizing it was empty, tried to hand it back.
I might be crazy but it almost sounds like Dana reprimanding him by yelling “Sean” as if to say “No, you gotta hold that can!”
He looks up then begrudgingly pulls the empty can back to him as he realizes, it’s in the contract and he’s gotta hold it.

I challenge anyone to watch the 2nd round in .25 speed and count the number of strikes landed for each fighter and compare it with the ufc official fight stats. I just did it and found the numbers were way off. Off by a lot btw.
In the strickland israel fight the statistics said adesanya landed like 90 strikes lmfao. Idk who's scoring these
@@CaseyC-bg4bb Watching it back .25 speed. I think it's more clear who won the round. I'm not gonna say who because I don't really care to be honest. I think the bigger issue is that the ufc official numbers are off. Most people will just look at the stats and trust them. And yeah, I have no idea what jank AI they use to count strikes. If you look at Volkanovski fights, the stats have him getting hit to the head a lot but in reality, a lot of the strikes are blocked or parried.

Takedowns are good if you do damage with them. He took him down 6 times and held him for what maybe a total of 1 minute? Spent most of the time trying to keep him down and as a result landed next to no ground and pound or even submission attempts

100 punches to the face, battering an opponents face doesnt matter to judges as much as a meaningless takedown with short control time. this fight was judged with feelings rather then, damage and dominance. you can always tell by how the commentators comments start to not match whats actually going on in the ring mixed with a conversations regarding score cards and start to favor the clearly visible losing fighter there will be a robbery. Dricus knows he didnt win this.
Bro it was a close fight, but to me DDP did more than enough to secure the win. He is clearly the more well rounded fighter, has good striking good grapling. Sean is too one sided. He was hiting a good tip kick in the first round and completely forgot about it in the next 4 rounds. Sean didnt do enough to win this in my opinion, although it was a close fight.

@@goncalocruz3336 Sure DDP uses more tools, but they were mostly ineffective. DDP did the most damage with his overhand right and that headkick he landed, there was also an illegal headbutt that got through that Strickland didn’t even complain about. The scoring criteria says that damage trumps all, all we have to do is look at the two fighters after the fight to see who did more damage this is self explanatory if you think DDP did more damage you’re either blind or a dick rider. Sean outstruck him pretty much every round I think DDP took rounds 3 and 4 b/c he had Strickland really hurt but I’m pretty sure he still got outstruck in those rounds, but I’d give them to DDP. As for takedowns, simply landing a takedown is only a change of position you must establish a threat with the takedown either through ground and pound or submission attempts,simply landing on takedown isn’t scored for anything. Strickland won on damage and getting hit less, DDP has more power but it was very difficult for him to land clean, it was a close fight but I consider this a robbery 3-2 Strickland.

Round 2 was all Du Plesis.
Strikes were 17-18 but Sean had nothing but Jabs while DDP had head Kicks, spinning back punches and Hooks that did way more damage plus a Takedown.
Round 4 is all Du Plesis he landed way more hits,way heavier hits and did more damage had Sean looking like an Extra from the Walking dead.
Round 3 was close but i give it to DDP again. Even Sean's coach gave it to DDP.
Don't know where you see the Bullying in round 5. Sean couldn't even land his Jabs while still taking heavy shots
The sad truth is du plessis got the nod because he’s from South Africa and what a great way to bring in fans to ufc by giving ufc exposure via a South African champion. If you think I’m wrong that’s your partiality talking because if you watch the fight without prejudice it goes to Strickland.

When I first watched this fight I thought Dricus won, although it was close. But after watching it a second time, Dricus absolutely won this fight, no debate even to be had.

This was a backyard brawl for a title fight
One of the best fights I've seen. A masterclass from both guys. I give it 3-2 to strickland. 1 and 5 strickland for sure. in the third strickland was not active but block most of the shots, landed much more, and did more damage. It was a masterclass from strickland, both defensively and picking his shots. However, the cut and the blood swayed the judges and commentators, they were not on point for this one.

Gonna give my opinions on who won each round as I watch it:
Round 1: Strickland had great defense and overall better striking. Did get taken down but got back up immediately and didn’t take damage. Sean worked the jab beautifully.
Round 2: Du Plessis takes this one. Was more active, landed more significant shots, and the takedown sealed it. Sean still had solid defense but didn’t throw a whole lot. Round two goes to Du Plessis.
Round 3: it’s a hard round to judge. Strickland landed more and more significant shots but still really didn’t throw a ton. Du Plessis threw a lot more but didn’t seem to land anything significant. Have to give this one to Strickland.
Round 4: Great round by Du Plessis, takedowns, strikes, caused significant damage to Strickland. Easy round for the South African.
Round 5: Big time bounce back from Strickland, paced in output, and heavier strikes Right overhand kept finding home for Strickland.
Overall I think Strickland did enough to retain the belt, I think it was to close to give to Du Plessis. But still have to respect the decision as it was a close fight. The rematch will be amazing
I don't have a Dog in this fight, but watching this back again. Quietly in my living room sober, Strickland looks more crisp and cleaner than DDP.
He has his hands full with this upcoming fight against a motivated Costa. Talk about taking the LONG way around to a title.
After rewatching this fight, I have Sean winning 1,3, 5. DDP winning 2, 4 (barely winning 2.) I see Sean putting a striking clinic on Costa this Saturday. Costa is similar to DDP except he doesn't really bring a TD threat but his kicks are better than DDP's and he is more athletic. Only thing I can see Costa catching Sean with is that spinning back wheel kick. Now for DDP VS. Izzy. If DDP does not have a grappling heavy fight plan against Izzy, Izzy will shred him to pieces in striking. Izzy is a master counter puncher and a striker with a sloppy style like DDP is Izzy's wet dream opponent. DPP will need to establish the TD and control time in R1, if he doesn't Izzy will KO him by R3
Close fight but Sean won rounds 1,2, and 5. To me round 2 is the closest call, but dricus doesn't land much, as opposed to sean hitting him with the jab. Dricus gets the takedown but does nothing with it and sean gets out quickly. 3 and 4 pretty easily dricus's. 5th goes to strickland.
i agree for sure. the Strickland fans and the Dricus fans act like it was clear when 2 was a very close swing round that determined the whole fight

More than anything else in this fight, I am amazed Dricus went all 5 rounds. Based on his previous performances, I really was expecting him to drop dead of cardiac arrest if it went into the 4th.

Watching it live I kinda felt like Sean won but watching it more closely a 2nd time I actually think DDP edged out the W, It's all about R2, the other rounds all seem pretty clear. And I think DDP edged out R2, he pushed the pace, was the aggressor, landed the bigger shots, got a TD, and Sean just didn't do much, hit him with a handful of jabs, that's about it

10 point must system sucks, UFC needs to see draws as normal. Happens all the time in other martial art disciplines, doesn't take anything away from the fights. If its a shitty draw that was boring, don't remake the fight. If it was a banger that was just too even then you run it back again right away.

DDP won this fight, strickland basically just stood there. He got taken down, he got damaged, he got out-striked. BOTTOM LINE

I don’t know why people thought Strickland won this fight. I had easily 3-2 for DDP. Sean taking 1 and 5. Even Cormier thought it was 3 to 1 going into the 5th. Sean had a phenomenal jab going but after round 1 he seemed to just slow down his attack progressively more and more until round 5 but by that point all DDP needed was to not get finished. I didn’t really have a horse in the race, it was a exciting fight but this whole Strickland getting robbed thing is ludicrous.
Crazy how close the fight was and Strickland didn't get an immediate rematch like alot of champions have before

I've legit only seen ONE small boer through out my entire life and I'm not exaggerating. They have good genetics. EPO improves cardio and Dricus has horrid cardio

This fight is proof that UFC needs 10-10 rounds. Round 2 was even but whichever way it goes, it disproportionately skews the scorecards
