God will help me. After one of the videos, I just took a box filled with good unused kitchen pots pans misc kitchen stuff for a low income neighbor who is unemployment. He is grateful and was in need of bbq supplies pots and baking items. The videos motivated me! Thank you!😁
Someone has probably mentioned this, so just a little fyi. I had three sons, stairsteps ones. They were all in the same range of sizes for under ware and socks. I would spend hours a week folding, and matching. I decided to only buy white socks, and under ware w/no designs, for my elementary kids to wear on school day's. I just put all the socks in two hampers, one long, one the short. The under ware, all the same size in one bin, and no one cared as long as they were clean. I didn't have to match or fold anything. My boys were in sports, and they went thru a lot of both these items in a week.
ORGANIZE LAST is spot on!! I went minimal during COVID and have inspired a couple friends. They are so eager to organize but I keep telling them that the real secret to keeping your house clean is to HAVE LESS STUFF. They'll send me Pinterest pics of a closet or pantry with a million containers but in reality when you eat through the food or get rid of the duplicate linens, even no containers look organized. My other 2021 goal is to drastically reduce my plastic consumption. When organizing what's left it's amazing how creative you can be with containers you already have (HELLO AMAZON boxes) without having to purchase a bunch of plastic. life changing. Loved your video!
Love your ideas. - i am a minimalist at heart- however i married a "prepper" (aka natural hoarder) who wants to save everything for a doomsday scenario. 30 years of marriage and the struggle is real. I get a LOT done quietly when he's at work. But he gives me plenty to work with.
As a former "prepper", tell your husband that none of the crap he's hoarding will help much in a true doomsday scenario. Your neighbors will find out that you have supplies. Furthermore, most of that stuff isn't going to help if you have to run. He should be focusing on gaining skills and knowledge that will actually be useful no matter where you are--first aid, hunting, foraging plants, herbalism, growing food, etc.
Oh, you give me hope that our marriage will last 30 years + ! This is us. Except I promised in our early days that I wouldn't throw out any of his stuff. Still looking for a solution to this issue! 😆
@@ewen9415 yes love for my dear husband (and his patience with my need for space) has kept us going now for a little over 30 yrs. We finally settled into a place with a basement and he has his own home office the office is his to keep as he wishes and there's space in the basement for me to organize different areas for things. We were a military family for 23 years of these 30.- moving so many things and trying to keep track about did me in! Praise GOD for retirement!
Won't argue that prepping can be dysfunctional. But when our Texas "Snowmageddon" hit us, sheet ice prevented many from even walking outside. Driving only possible in 4wd and praying. Stores closed or out of stock. My preps had me eating great, light by my $ Tree solar stick lights, and using TP. My minimalist adult sons huddled with flashlights with no batteries, soda crackers and strawberry jam and digging thru the trash for flushable paper. You can't save more than the space you have, but I'm concerned for "smart" families that can't care for their families for a week without a dash to Costco
Do you ever dry yours clothes outside on the clothes line? Seems weird to be throwing clothes in the dryer on a hot sunny day....but then I’m Australian and that’s what we do...saves on electricity and sun-dried clothes smell so great 😊
I dont have gas hoohed up in BASEMENT.so hang clothes .MOM USE TO HANG CLOTHES OUTSIDE .HAVE TO TELL BROTHER MOVE JUNK .BUT TO ME I LLIVE THE SMELL OF FRSH LAUNDRY
Agree, I’m from Australia and used the outdoor clothesline attached to the fence near the laundry which had an external door. Now I am in Houston Texas USA. There is no outdoor clothesline and the washing machine and dryer is in an interior room with no door to outside or window. I purchased a foldaway drying frame and I use it under a air vent or heater vent that’s in a corridor. Sometimes I hang items outside but then clothes tend to get covered in yellow dust off trees … might be pollen of cypress trees.
I feel like I'm late to the party. This video has convinced me that I did a good job in my kitchen. My kitchen drawer looks similar to yours. (I've been taking lessons from Dana.)
when i have to go into the office, or i have to host an event i have pre selected outfits, including jewelry in sandwich bags, pinned to the outfit...now almost all my work is at home and events are webinars...but if you're going daily it helps the adults to select your outfits, less overwhelming when you're rushed or tired....i found it to be fun when i'm not in a hurry.
I love this video!! The shoe thing in the front hall reminds me of 20 years ago when we were encouraged by the kids preschool to have a “Saturday” box 📦. A bit hard if their only shoes but ... anything they left out went in the Saturday box and they didn’t get back until the next Saturday!!! Even soccer shoes!!
I love that I can just "listen" to you!. Dawn is the same.... I need this cause watching a video takes me away from "doing". I appreciate how you do your videos & what you have to say! Keep going!
Although I need a serious declutter routine I have two under sink cabinets that are completely decluttered and have been this way for 2 years. Tip #1 for this is ditch the pretty bottle of pretty smelling cleaners! I use various recipes of original blue Dawn dishwashing liquid, white vinegar and water. Its healthier and the vinegar smell goes away when it fries. I use this mix for TOUGH soap scum, an all purpose cleaner and floor cleaner and my dishes. Recipes on YT. This is such a game changer. #2 we DO NOT BUY any trash bags. We only buy 1-2 rolls of paper towels in a year. Instead we use cut up tee shirts and old towels and wash cloths etc. as rags. We use the small used store bags for our trash and take it out more frequently (tip came from Living In A Dime) Small kids can get involved in the “heavy lifting” on this. We are very conscious about trash and what we buy that creates more trash. Egg cartons (paper only) are composted or used to start our fires in the fireplace. We burn ALL of our paper either in the fire pit or use it to start our indoor fires. The ash goes onto the garden. Little changes make a big impact.
You had me at "low budget MTV cribs" lol! So thankful for this collaboration and that I got introduced to your channel- just starting our minimal/decluttering journey. It's so overwhelming- so I'm taking in all that I can from y'all who have gone before us!
i guess im asking the wrong place but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Jamal Finnley I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I forgot to show that. We keep them in our downstairs bathroom, it's easier for me to catch them after meals when we keep them on the main level. We aren't trying to minimize teeth. LOL
Tbh, microfibres cloths aren’t that great as they release microplactics into the water supply. I’m saving up to buy a guppy friend bag that catches the plastic waste, it’s not perfect but I can’t find a better alternative at the moment.
I did the same command strip trick to swiffer box - mounting it to the wall of my under-sink cabinet. Actually, I think it’s hook & loop tape - because that’s what I had on hand. It’s been there a few years now. I just refill it when necessary. Good video!
Okay, had to stop the video. I'm pretty sure you're my new best friend. Saw you on the minimal mom and subscribed. I have NEVER seen someone with a bathroom cabinet like mine! Nothing except tp in the drawer. I appreciate the closet ideas. Okay, I'll resume now.
I just started watching some of your videos and they are great, but there are so many videos that I am still left with the problem of "where do I start". I need to stop procrastinating on getting my house decluttered, and now if I take time to watch all of these videos, it's going to be a while before I get started. While you are entertaining, I think I need to find some action oriented, "get to work now" videos to help me out and get me motivated.
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! It really helps me to know what folks want to see videos on. I can get sucked into the UA-cam rabbit hole pretty easily. All things in moderation. ☺️ I always recommend starting in an area that takes up the biggest chunk of time. For me it was laundry and so the first step was reducing the amount of clothing we had. It frees up time to tackle the next area. Again, thanks so much for your feedback!
Such great info and motivation, Marybeth! I watched the first part of your video while washing my breakfast and lunch dishes...then was inspired to do a little maintenance and organization in my kitchen while watching the rest of the video!
WoW!! It is true that instead of doing my Bible study, I am concerned about the things that I need to do for the day because I don't plan ahead...so having a home in order will definitely help keep my life and priorities in order. Thank you for sharing your journey with us 💞

Such a great video! Your explanations for your trouble areas are so relatable and its solutions are tangible! Side note- I love your blouse! Where did you get it?

I use my Amazon boxes to tote my donations to the drop off station 🤗👍🥳
I agree with not purchasing more and more plastic containers to organize more and more stuff.
It really helps to have such a huge kitchen. I have 3 drawers that are not even half the size of yours.

Smells great! We hang out in the summer, and in the house during the winter. (We heat with wood so the clothes dry pretty quick)

You are indeed fortunate with an abundant lifestyle.
You really have done a great job on down sizing organizing and prioritizing looks great.
I enjoy watching the actual "process." Not just talk. I'm a "VISUAL" type of a person.
I use plain old boxes for sorting, storing, and organizing. Good solid boxes are just as good as any containers and free.

Too many function of one place is eye opening for me. I think I just realized whats my problem.
That was one of the hardest things for me to figure out. I can't have an office/sewing room/craft room/library/exercise room. Nothing has a home then.
