as someone starting out on genomic data visualization, this was an awesome video. thanks for sharing this with us.
Here is a quote that I like; America has just discovered two things, huge deposits of energy and gold. Advances in drilling technology have unlocked vast new sources of natural gas and the internet of things along with cloud computing have given us Big Data. These data mountains and the tools to exploit them are the new gold. The winners in Big Data will be those who are best at amassing, analyzing and protecting that data and can use software to quickly apply what they have learned from the data to improve any product or service."
Thomas Friedman, NY Times 2/16/14
I like that. I'm reading Thomas Friedman's book Thank You For Being Late right now, and it expands on these ideas in ways that are quite enlightening (and sometimes frightening).
@Robert Sapolsky I have an example of that in Ribbon: genomeribbon.com/?perma=_ribbon/grch38_vs_gorilla
Have you used Docker to run software? I know very little about it but would love to know more. Any chance you can do a video on what it is, why it is useful and how to use it?
Nice explanation
Which softwares are better to visualization of whole genome sequence files?
Hi, thank you for this! Do you know if there is a paper that I could quote that lays out this precise existing problem (the need for custom dataviz in genomics) and proposes solutions, like yours?
great question, not that I know of. The circos paper has a small discussion of the issues in its introduction at least: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2752132/
If you do find papers that talk about this topic, I'd appreciate you linking them back here so others can find them too!
Great, thank you for the reference! I will if I find something even better. Cheers

awesome
Can you please suggest a good book of genomics for post grads students
hi
