Instead of acetone which softens the paint, I"d probably try aggressive rubbing compound with a power tool. But then, after it's all weathered out and funky, put a fresh coat of wax on it like you're "trying" at least!
If you hit that paint with some darker rattle can paints and rub it with leather work glove. Wipe off the excess. You’ll get some good results. Love that truck
