For as long as I can remember the Swedish "version" of the FDA has warned against eating more than 100g (3.5oz) of champignons (portobellos included) per month because it is likely that they cause cancer, especially when consumed raw. Unless the US government is censoring what is well known facts outside of the US, I think it's safe to say that the guy who studies mushrooms for a living might want a little drama & mystery around him (for once).
