I drank a ridiculous amount of beer and used a lighter so Luther Allison could play his heart out in the Soup Kitchen in Detroit...amazing man...a real musical hero for the people...
I’ve seen my share of concerts, big and small!! Saw Mr. Allison in a very small blues bar, slam packed with people, maybe 60 people tops!! He played two, 2 hour sets, none stop, with a 30 minute break in the middle!! Gotta be in my top 2-3 live performances I’ve seen in my life!! I’m 72!
Great LUTHER with a wonderful JAMES SOLBERG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Kansas City he got down off the stage and played with crowd. Followed him around wherever he went. Very very impressive. Died shortly afterwards. Was very lucky to see him once.
I was there too! I followed him all over the place and couldn’t believe it! Excellent. So glad I went before he passed.
Many years ago I read in a blues magazine that Lu had returned to the US and had recorded a new album for Alligator. I sent money in the mail. A few weeks later it arrived in my mailbox.
I was working on building a new small addition on our house, after working all day elsewhere. I stopped everything and put the CD into a portable player, took a break, grabbed a beer, sat down, and listened to this great music.
I remembered Lu from his earlier touring days, when he'd sit with us and chat a bit before performances. It was great to hear him again. Great bluesman!
...Real Talent!!! YEAaaassssss ❤️🔥
This man and his band never got the respect they should had, what amazing talent, wish i could've seen him live, and his son,Bernard is just as amazing, i know Luther is looking down on his son and smiling while he's jamming along side.Thank you Luther for giving this old man such joy listening to your music
That’s why he went to Europe for years and came back to see family and pass away.
I wish I'd seen this man perform. A blues powerhouse.
First time I saw him was in Madison, WI in 1987 (I think). It was at the Church Key and there were maybe about 10 people in the bar. Luther didn't care, he played his ass off and gave us all he had. The mark of a true professional and a dedicated Blues Man- Luther was the real deal. His show was mind blowing and I became an instant fan. Luther played like no one else, they'll never be another Luther Alison. Love him, seen him in Oshkosh, WI at the old Harvey's Bar. One of the best shows ever- his last tour. I was so sad when I heard he passed away. I just realized this video includes James Soulberg, he's the real deal and has amazing skills. I hope to meet him some day.
I, too, saw him for the first time in Madison, WI. But that was 1967! He was amazing.
They will never be another Luther Alison????
Later 1960s: He played at al little club in Madison, The Nitty Gritty, right next to the dorms. It's hard to believe that Luther and other blues greats from Chicago would travel all the way to Wisconsin to play such a small venue. But those were the days before blues crossed over and gained wider acceptance it justly deserved.
Joe Bonamassa
He was a star in Europe, thru all the '70.
Miss him, Saw him in the old Metropool in Hengelo Holland. For about 100 persons. Bought all the different compact discs from his wife. So pure.. Still hear him playing "castle "
Growing up in Detroit, you new the name. Luther Allison.............The Soul Fixin Man. He poured his heart and soul into his music..........I saw him in his hometown of Chicago when I saw about 20, and they didn't make the money they do today. I've seen him in the same shirt on more than once. You could tell by watchin him, he didn't play for the money. He was born to play the blues.
Blues cant be any more real that this. This is Preaching man.Awesome
This is fucking great Blues
tu as raison, du putain de bon Blues !!!
Love Luther...what a soul he had
A friend's dad passed on the 16th. I was perusing his page and came across a post where he said one of the things about again is find amazing music like this. Wow! Was he right. This man is the goods. 🎵 🎶 🎶 🎶
We had him in our shops very often in Paris, serviced his guitar and talk music and thing with him...lovely guy.
Everytime I think I've heard all the good ones here goes UA-cam again! GOODNESS,WHAT THE HELL JUST HIT ME? THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!

I've seen him play live about seven times here in Germany. Two of the gigs were with his son Bernard. Luther is my all time blues favorite.
Incredible performance!
This is the wrong song... This is (Watching You) Cherry red wine
How much I miss Luther Allison! Nobody did slow blues like he did.
Nancy López Honey that’s not slow blues. I’m guessing you don’t play an instrument. The Blues feeling is slow but his playing is far from slow
I think he made his point.
His vibrato hand is much slower than I imagined when I listened...I must be doing something bad=wrong.
He can play and sing the blues love him
Doesn,t Get any better than this........Blues..The language of the soul!
Powerful !!
La vie nous en fait voir de toutes les couleurs et le blues en est la plus pure expression
Lord have mercy!
My favorite BLUES artist of all time…✌️
Love it!
right on Luther ... not in front of the children. Never to happen again.

Solberg
Love him 100%REAL
I had the pleasure of seeing Luther Allison preform at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival 1974. He was the closing act on Friday night. We would always have his music in the rotation at numerous get togethers. He was extremely popular in Detroit.
Damn this guy so good
Truly missed.

Sou um grande fã dos Blues já vi Buddy Guy BBKING e Magic Slim em concerto mas gostava ter visto Luther Allison grande Bluesman com muita pena não vai ser possível porque este grande Senhor já faleceu .Obrigado
Fantastic brilliant blues love it real for always .!
The name of this song actually is "Cherry Red Wine"!
exactly
When internet jukeboxes came out, I would always play Cherry Red Wine at my local watering hole. The young lady made a crack that I always played that song that went, (then she made a growling noise sounding like the first line of vocals). I commended her on her Luther Allison impression and made sure to play it every time I went there. She always made that sound when I walked up to the jukebox. We laughed, and she eventually started to like the Blues and Luther. After several times, she said, "Play that song that goes, and made the sound again" So I told her who it was and what the name of the song was. After that, she was a fan.
La canción se llamaba originalmente watching you, me lo dijo Walter Trout en un foro de facebook, la discográfica lo cambio por red Cherry Wine.
Nice string change, James
Quelle jolie messe arc en ciel ! merci Luther tu es un bon pasteur du blues, je l' aimerai toujours...
Saw this cat at a free concert in GG Park in mid 80's....Greatness!!
You are f...ng lucky I would pay a fortune to see him..
quel feeling...
This dude could rip!
Wow! Simply wow!
He used to play in my club all the time.
Wish I could give another thumb up!!
NO DRINKING OH YES TRUTH SONG FOR SURE🖤💙
Such a great song it's a shame that they don't know where to put commercials
I accidentally saw Luther play at a concert in ‘72 or ‘73 in St Paul, MN. There was a big concert with the Jame Cotton Blues Band, Rod Stewart and the Steve Miller band. Turned out that James Cotton couldn’t make it because their plane had engine trouble. Luther just happened to be in town so they got him to play as a last minute replacement. I don’t think anyone in the audience knew who he was. Luther came out and was fantastic and stole the show. When Rod Stewart came on it seemed dull by comparison as was Steve Miller. The only concert I ever went to where the warmup act stole the show.
Thanks to Nuri Nuri I'm now following you! Look forward to catching one of your Houston area live performances very soon!!!
Make you want to sat back and take a drink and relaxed!!!!!!!
Watching you is the name of the song.
..... quando dopo due note metti subito il like
Famelico sanguigno!
Nice guitar!
I PLAY GUITAR....AND LUTHER IS THE BLUES MAN...LOL....GOT SEVERAL OF HIS CDS.....👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Eloquent blues.
Yes.
When Madison was cool...Church Key, Genna's, 602. Luther, his son Bernard, and of course, Madison's own TATE. It was all about the music and livin' together...
Super!!!!!!!!!!
"Cherry red wine (Watching You)" es el nombre posta del tema gente! Le mandaron cualquier gilada
I had an upsession with Luther's work during my very early teens. I would always frantically search to see if he happened to be on during a Bet On Jazz show.
+Nuclear-Skull87 me too!..saw him a lot on the bet on jazz show , made me pick up my guitar and jam along!.
Excellent. He and Buddy Guy we're one of the reasons I considered being a Blues-Artist at such a young age as well.
Nuclear-Skull87 They along with Muddy Watters, Albert Collins, Albert and Freddie King, Kenny Neal, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, John lee Hooker and soo much more were my influences. Man I use to LOVE watching Bet On Jazz channel when they had the blues segments
That's right Buddy!
Jr. SugarFingers Linton Don’t forget Gary Moore and SRV and Albert Collins and I could go on. Johnny Winter
♥♥♥

James Solberg, Luther's faithful squire.
Only Blues Only this Guythar Player are Great !

Amazing!
But this is Cherry Red Wine.
Same as Low Down And Dirty?
No sir, not the same.
Demetria Taylor did a great version of this on her Delmark album as well. Tragic song. Luther kills you with this stuff.
Exactly... 🥰
yeah
Way back in the late 1970's there was a Luther Allison Junior.....He played around central Illinois among other places.....Saw him play at a place called the Lazy J Saloon in Bloomington Illinois, on a Friday night , went to a Notre Dame football game in South Bend , Ind. and saw him play again that night at a place called Vegetable Buddy's......could this be the same? It does sound and look like him?
5 bucks says Yep! I first saw him in Oshkosh, Wi in 1970 maybe.
I have just discovered him and I'm amazed!!!!
Now I understand who did Gary Moore learned from. It's GREAT!

you better check out Walter Trout A Tribute to Luther one of the best blues ever composed!!!
what happened at 1:30 to make him swap guitars? I don't see a broken string. But the other guitar player did have a broken string at 1:50.
Leute, der Song heißt: "Cherry Red Wine" oder "Watching You"🙄
Go see his son, Bernard Allison, when he's not in Europe. Great offspring...
:-)
Real singing ain’t pretty. It ain’t sexy. It ain’t even sexual. It’s raw, real and nasty…🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
who is the white dude on guitar?
Bernard Allsion....
That's all
Smoking hot!!!
Low Down and Dirty is not the name of this song. FYI.
lol lown down and dirty : popa chubby :)
Who's the other guitar player?
James Solberg on guitar and Mike Vlahakis on keys. Both from the Eau Claire, WI area. The bass and drums could be too, but can't identify them. Eau Claire rocks a lot more than just Bon Iver!
James Solberg. Fantastic guy
Luther always had the James Solberg back him when he toured the states. They were very good friends. After Luther's death Solberg and his band won two WC Handy awards for best blues band and best album, 'in 1998 maybe. Its called LA Blues and it's one of the finest I've heard. He was also the lead guitarist with Jim Liban and Short Stuff on Short Stuffs 2nd album.
James Solberg . He already toured with Luther in the '70. Very nice guy, & very good musician. He plaid his very special 335,working his sound very precisely.Saw him twice or three time in Europe. Even have an autograph " thanx for the stickers" ( ??? hu,a long story...).
DvdRLgh ...doing a ditto on the Solberg album....really good stuff.
Immer noch unvergleichlich....
who is the second guitarist?
James Solberg
