    Looks lovely, love the shine metallic is just an added bonus. I am sure it will look lovely on your desk. For a first time using a newish medium I think this is great nothing should ever be perfect then why would we try and create again, wouldn’t that be a little hooo humm. Hope you’re feeling better ❤.

      Thanks Paula, that is so true! 😊It's always more satisfying when something is a bit of a challenge, and sometimes that leads to unexpected and interesting new paths to explore too. Thank you, still feeling very rough today, and pickled with this rash, but I'm sure I'll be fine very soon :) xo

    I think it looks beautiful 🤩 I had a thought, bake the small tiles first and after you arrange then I. The mold and use resin? I think you can mix in resin. Just an idea. I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊

      @artyfartyannie  8 днів тому

      Thank you BB, yes, the colours and shimmer of those metallic inks on the clay is really lovely isn't it? Would definitely tweak the method, it would make more sense to bake the tiles first, and yes, I could use UV resin, set the whole thing in the silicone tray. It was a lovely box to play with, lots of ideas came up and there is loads left for more experiments, so thank you very much again for sending it :) xo

    Love the tiles, shame it wasnt a clear filler, could you have used resin in-between instead? Fun project tho 😊💕

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  8 днів тому

      Thanks Lucy, yes it all went wrong with the filler stage - I reckon I could have just pushed the tiles together and baked them and they would have held, without the white in between. Someone suggested colouring the white with some of the inks, I might try that, see if it will take on the baked clay. Whatever happens, it was fun playtime and I will use the supplies and techniques again. Another commenter suggested using them in my slow-stitching, which has got me thinking .... :)xo

    When you were dripping the ink on I was wondering what some drops of IPA would have done to the ink? Very different method I've never seen it before xx

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  8 днів тому +1

      I reckon it would have acted as a clear blender, dispersing and moving the inks around. I've used it with alcohol inks on paper and yupo before, it's not quite like the actual blenders they sell, but vastly cheaper :)xo

    Interesting. I'd not heard of Sculpey before. I think the tiles themselves are lovely, but am wondering if you could paint over the white 'grouting'? Just to tone it down a bit. In fact, it'd be better if the white liquid could be coloured by adding ink to the bottle before it's applied to whatever mosaic's being made. Don't know if that would stop the liquid from being effective when it's baked? I suppose the supplier could tell you if that's possible. Anyway, I'm glad you had fun, and I do like seeing what these subscription boxes contain.

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  6 днів тому +1

      The Sculpey was lovely to use, and I loved the effect of the metallic inks on it, just would have changed the method a bit in hindsight. Great idea to colour the "grouting", another commenter suggested that too, so I'm going to try it and see. I guess the intention was for it to imitate white grout, but since I've got it all over the place, if I can colour it with the metallic inks, that will cover the mess! I'll give it a go and post some photos - watch this space! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment :)

    Just wondering how you stored the clay while you were waiting for the alcohol inks to dry, I thought it would have dried out if left to the elements. What a shame that the liquid Sculpy turned out white, it would have been far better if it was clear. Maybe you could bake the tiles on their own and then glue them together with something else. The colours and textures are amazing.

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  9 днів тому

      I doesn't dry in the air, it only goes hard when you bake it in the oven. Definitely would have been a better idea to bake the tiles first and then put them together, and in fact I could have just pushed all the squares together in the tray and baked them that way and I think they would have stuck together by themselves - I will definitely be experimenting some more with these, because as you say Maggie, the effects are really cool :)

    Annie, will you be using the metallic mosaic in your slow stitching?

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  8 днів тому

      Well, I hadn't thought of it, but what a great idea - I reckon if I made some of the pieces with holes pierced through them, they could be brought into slow stitched pieces and would add some interesting shimmer and texture. Thanks for the idea ConnieSue :)

    It looked like you were having fun making pools of colour on the clay, but then had to rub them all together? However the iridescent effect is lovely! Such a shame your tiles were spoiled with the Sculpy, possibly needs a finer nozzle to enable you to get between the tiles effectively. I loved the textures you put on the tiles, it all adds to the interest of the piece.

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  9 днів тому

      Yes that's exactly what happened Linda, it seemed a shame to rub them al together, but then it was fun making the pools of colour and it still gave me some variation - in hindsight, I think I needed a lot less of the ink. Also think if I'd have made the gaps between as big as they show in the booklet, it would have been easier to get the liquid sculpey in between - live and learn! :)
