This programme was way ahead of it's time, the writing was brilliant.. True to life for those of us that worked the Industry, where friendships were forged taking the piss was daily routine and you sank or swam... But your mates were family.

In The Thornley Manor scenes, they should have razored the faces off Big Baz and his henchmen, and smashed their spines so badly, that they'd be paraplegic wheelchair bound for the rest of their lives.
Actually, that was only a body double for Wayne, as the actor who played him (Gary Holton) had already died of a drugs overdose in October 1985 - this is why he's in the background throughout the melee...

What I find strange is that everybody on the site was scared of McGowan but in the last episode of the first series the blokes from the site provoke a fight with Dennis, who's sitting with McGowan. Strange. The big fight from Cowboys was class.

I have read the book as well, in the book he is a scouser there are some words he gets the scouse accent a bit better. There are a few indications of him being a Scouser Liverpudllian, for instance in the last episode When the boat goes out Dennis meets up with magowan in the bierkeller , Dennis offends magowan about his drink and he tells Den im only drinking with because your a Britt so don't take the piss or I treat you like the customers, that indicates he is only drinking with him as he is a fellow Britt a souser.In Liverpool there are lots of Liverpudlians Scouser that have Irish ancestry or part ancestry, Which would explain the Irish name, In my opinion he is a Scouser with Irish ancestry

Micheal Elphick died in 2002 sadly. Classic series though, the fact that its dated shows how accurate it was of the day
