It has always puzzled me why, in the USA and Canada, they are so paranoid about sound moderators. I live in NZ, and the laws here are pretty draconian, but we are allowed, without permits etc. a 'silencer; on any firearm at all. They protect your hearing without having the limitations imposed by ear muffs etc. and are no problem whatsoever. Even hi-power rifles have them a lot these days (over-barrel type), and many NZ hunters use them in the field, not only to protect their hearing but also to avoid startling game as little as possible......
Because here in Canada we "believe" that if you are allowed to own a silencer, suppressor, sound moderator etc. that automatically turns you into Agent 47 and you'll just walk around assassinating people
Had some disinformation lately which causes me to question. So if i'm up in the bush and hunting (legally in season) on a logging road etc. My rifle/shot gun is unloaded and beside me in my truck. my shells or cartridges are in my console or on the seat beside me. Is this a problem? Am I transporting ammunition illegally? Should it have been hidden from sight?
Are you guys allowed to put after market sights on handguns? I see some Canadian's with accessories on their AR's but I don't see too many handgun videos
Awesome presentation! Question for you please: If a restricted firearm owner owned a large property could he/ she shoot their guns on their properties? (I'm thinking NOT, unless you get it designated as a firing range but please do tell)
No which is super silly. I knew a guy who got his yard certified as a private range (or something I’m not sure exactly what it’s called) but it cost him a TON of money because they had all the rules about the berm height and all that and after a few years he gave up
I know you talked about using 10 round AR pistol Mags before. Now if I am using them in say a 18 inch barreled Kel Tec Su-16 in the bush, is that legal? Is it even legal at the range?

This was a very informative video. I had no idea that Canada had so many firearm restrictions, and my heart goes out to all of you and I hope that you keep fighting to remove as many useless restrictions as you can. I live in North Carolina USA and would like to extend an open invitation to come down here and not have to deal with such non sense. Yes there are a hand full of states that have all but lost the fight for the American 2nd Amendment, but not in North Carolina. We have learned that as soon as you loose a right it is almost imposable to get it back. The misinformed and misguided officials that think criminals are going to listen and obey new laws that truly only affect law abiding citizens are so ignorant. Not only that they lead us to believe that the so many of US crimes that involve firearms are done with "hi capacity assault weapons" is BULL CRAP! But in the very slim chance you would find yourself defending you or your family against a criminal with "hi capacity assault weapons" , would it not be better to meet them on more equal terms? Well until things get better up north come on down here and have some fun shooting whatever firearm type or capacity or caliber you heart desires. God Bless
The government has created these laws to harass and attack gun owners The Liberals gun control act of 1995 declared Canadian gun owners as a threat to public safety. So gun owners are monitored and checked every 24 hours in a database because they are considered mass murderers in waiting.
I know it's a 7 year old comment, but it's easier for an illegal immigrant or others to come to America to live than a Canadian, who are almost culturally and ideologically the same as an American. It's complete bs that we don't have easier means to immigrate to eachothers countries.
question on the laws u mentioned about restricted firearms not allowed in the forest does this apply to private property that has forests etc? as im buying a cabin in the woods with 600 acres of land with over 400 acres of woods
also forgot to ask about the magazines pinning can you remove the pins and get away with other limiters that slide inside the magazines so if the ban is lifted etc they can be changed easy on your own without messing it up. thanks im soon to be joining the firearms community in Canada Ontario and so far you helped me alot for getting ready to move and live off grid hunting etc and enjoying Canada
If i could suggest something it would be a good clarification vid regarding storage this is incredible confusing especially restricted requirements and the difference between a cabinet and a safe those type of things are always miss understood.
I just really feel bad for you guys you have to beg your government permission to have weapons that should be every man's god-given right. maybe someday huh?
Lol seriously every mans right how many gun related deaths do you have in the US agin not every one should be allowed to own a firearm that's why there is such a proses in Canada to weed out the ones who are responsible enough to own one and why our gun regulations allow us to have over 50 times less gun related deaths in Canada period
What an ignorant comment. Do you get all your information from CBC?There are about the same number of gun related deaths as there are car accidents. In Canada the number of stabbings are almost equal in firearms homicides. Criminals don't legally buy guns either. It's really irrelevant. There will always be people who will abuse tools in order to murder. All regulating guns accomplishes is making sure the state has absolute power over it's citizenry, so that whatever policy they pursue, no matter how tyrannical, or detrimental to it's citizens it will not be met with any serious opposition.
@@TheWiseDaws Having rules is fair. In Canada, our rules are unfair, illogical, anti-evidence based, and arbitrary. If we were stronger advocates for our own rights, we'd have better laws. All firearms users need to advocate better for our own rights.
QUESTION - Fast Forward almost 8 Years (July 2021) - Do you still need to get a SHORT TERM AUTHORIZATION to TRANSPORT if you have an RPAL & Restricted Firearms?
Civil advantage, you're a stand up guy, love the comic flair also, a nice departure from the usual drone of the cletuses on some of these gun video's. Very well put at the end with regards to contacting and becoming part of the solution instead of just complaining and pointing fingers, very smart, very refreshing. Going for my firearms license on the 19th August, can't wait. Looking to get a nice little rim shot semi auto .22LR. Need something with a little more umph than my paintball gun :) for target practice etc. Cheers J
Less then a year ago I was one of those people that wasn't aware guns were legal in Canada. After a tour of a brand new local Cabela's I was floored to see restricted handguns for sale out on display. I now "legally" own a 9mm Jericho 941 which I have a blast taking to the range :D As much as I enjoy being allowed to fire off guns at approved ranges, a lot of the rules & regulations of my new found sport are pretty grey. I applaud you for shedding light on them for those of us just starting out.
Love the channel, great work, can you clarify when you need a permit to transport? I have 2 hand guns, both are 9mm and I was looking at getting a couple of shotguns and a rifle. I was in clear on if I need a document to go to the range etc. Thanks Graham
I got in trouble once with the firearms office, I did exactly what you explained by moving last minute (just down the street from my old place) and didn't get a short term ATT for my glock and after I moved I called for an address change and they lectured me on the phone about the importance of keeping track of restricted firearms, and told me they were going to just give me a warning this time, but next time "bad things would happen" I got lucky but I sure won't forget next time.
Enjoyed the video very much. One question though - I understand it's illegal to sneak your pistol "out to the bush", but what if it's your bush? Your own forest acreage. I've been known to bring one of mine along on hikes in my own "back 40", and maybe even stop and shoot a few rounds. Is that illegal?
A good question would be what about motor homes? Are they vehicules when on their jacks or are they a building. Key word is on their jacks because it would be like a modular home or a pillar bassed foundation.
Hey Rod . Just want to know what think about and open carry Bill in Canada and do u think this could be in the future with all the changes in the world .
I get a little confused watching American videos and knowing Canadian law. I understand that I can take any part of a gun to a gunsmith, that does not have a number of registration on it without an ATT. Is that correct? As well, modification of my Glock 22 40cal to 9mm interchangeable barrel will not effect my registration, or does it? Thanks
Only one part of the firearm is the actual firearm. On a pistol it's typically the frame, on an AR it is the lower. You can take any part that isn't the firearm anywhere you like.
They are using .223 pistol mags (10 rounds) in a rifle. If a pistol mag can be used in a rifle it's ok. It's still a pistol mag. I'll have a video on this specifically, in about a week.
Not sure if this is true but I hear if you had a rifle say 5 and 1 I the chamber and it was fully loaded. Then added a full sand ammo band around the stock it would be over loaded and hence illegal?
how exactly are we supposed to stand on GUARD for thee if the bastards keep restricting us? with what slingshots but we can only have 3 stones in our pouch?
Hey there, I'm down here in the "land of the free" and I have some questions. What is a PAL, what is a "restricted firearm"?? Also, you mentioned pistols a few times, can I assume then that handguns are legal in Canada? If they are why then can you NOT use them anywhere but on a range?? And one more, why is mace and or pepper spray illegal?? Our women folk down here carry that stuff a lot for personal defense. It's almost a fashion accessory here.
Wait! so if I'm on a bicycle, I could put a non restricted firearm in a locked backpack and keep the ammo in a different pocket as long as i keep it with that vehicle? Would what mean if i kept the bike on me i could go anywhere with a firearm legally?
I really like your respectful, common sense approach. You're a great advocate for Canadian gun owners. I agree that while we may not like our laws, we must abide by them. I would also add that knowing the law is actually an advantage. For instance, it is illegal to have a firearm in a state that enables its operation on a highway and ammunition cannot be easily accessible. . However, once off the highway and in the back country, I take my rifle out of the case, remove the trigger lock, place the gun next to me with a mag of ammo sitting next to it on the seat. Not a loaded firearm, but handy enough so that if the deer/bear shows up, I'm ready. Perfectly legal. I personally would really like to be able to carry a sidearm when bow hunting and that is one of the areas I will be writing to my MP about. Thanks for all you do!
LIEberalism leads to socialism. socialism leads to naziism or communism (extreme left) which in turn confiscates guns then procedes to kill 10's of millions of people!
The paperwork doesn't keep the public safe, but it does give more power and control to the government. And less freedom for citizens. Not a coincidence.
Question. Is a person able to store their hunting rifles at their hunting cabin? In other words can a person store their nonrestricted firearms in a building which is not their primary residence? it may be a cabin on private property or a "mini storage" in the city. looking for clarification. Thanks love your videos.
It's not even about protecting your self from evil doers. Firearms are just flat out fun and a challenge that is ever evolving and will never be mastered.
Oren Hobbes They are not classified as vehicles for hunting purposes. You can only shoot from a water vessel if there are no means of motorized propulsion. If there is a motor on the back, it must be removed from the transom to shoot, no electric trolling motors either. This is the law for anyone hunting from the water for any species, in Ontario anyways.
WOW !!! I truly feel for the gun community in Canada. It's stupid that a person can't shoot a gun on their own land. In my town. As long as you outside of city limits. You can shoot on your own land. It's the shooters responsibility to ensure the back drop of where they're shooting. Also, another residence must be a quarter of a mile away from the direction of where you're shooting on your land. Meaning you can have a neighbors home across the street. But if you're shooting in your backyard in the opposite direction...then you are fine to shoot. And no restrictions on what type of gun or caliber can be used. If a person has farm or ranch land, they should be able to shoot whatever and whenever they wish...it is their land. Seem to me Canada's Gun Laws are simply there and imposed to generate money for the government. And what's up with you are not permitted to protect yourself or your family? And you have to rely on law enforcement. If that's the case, then I want a cop with me at ALL TIMES. That law in itself would force me to move from Canada. NO Government will EVER tell me that I CAN'T PROTECT MYSELF OR MY FAMILY>
Depending on local/municipal regulations (and how bitchy your neighbors are), my understanding is that you CAN shoot non-restricted firearms on your own property. Can't fire restricted firearms anywhere but a range, however.
Yes my friend, criminals in Canada have way more protection from the government than legal and law abiding gun owners. However, it's judged case by case and with incredibly skilled lawyer and hundreds of thousands of dollars you may be lucky enough to justify killing/hurting a criminal who broke into your home to kill you and rape your family. You're supposed to call 911 first and with your last breath of life hold on to the phone and talk to the 911 dispatcher. Use a gun to defend your family and you end up in prison until your lawyers can try and do the impossible, to free you from jail. Kill them with baseball bat or a knife, you are in a bit better position. The method of killing the intruder also has a huge significance in whether you go to prison or not. Example, you kill the robber with a shotgun and you have some chance of defending your actions. You kill him with a handgun and you're in a heap of legal troubles, jail time, insane lawyer fees, guilty until proven innocent....Looking into moving to Montana, leave this hell hole once and for all.
In Canada, you can shoot any "non-restricted" firearm providing your municipality allows it and the firearm can be safely discharged on your property (think farmland, etc away from dwellings)
It should be! It's easier to steal a car and drive it then it is to get a license, buy a car, get insurance, plates , sticker, safety and pay gas but do we want it to be easy?
Thank you for getting back to me so quibkly but I am little nervous about the "asking for a friend" approach. The registration certificate clearly indicates the capacity of the firearm and I have never been approached by the firearm centre in all these years of renewing my PAL. Every 5 years for 40 years. I don't suppose it's an issue you could raise with them from a purely "academic" perspective as a qualified instructor???? I know of people who still legally possess many firearms which are now ruled prohibited weapons but were not at the time of purchase , even items such as 2 inch snub nose revolvers and .25 and .32 caliber pistols.
Hello, are those laws still in effect? As I'm under the impression some laws (the ones about transportation) changed. If any one knows the answer (and if possible could throw me in the directions of the references/laws) please let me know. Cheers!
thats why our laws should be more like american laws as far as guns go, and yes i have my PAL, but i think we go a little overboard in canada as far as ownership and transport goes, considering that criminals arent going to register and or ask for a att in order to move them around or even own them in fact.
does anyone know anything about this Canadian "authorization to carry" liscense? apparently bush pilots, armoured car guards, trappers, and those working in remote wilderness areas can get it, and in a few cases (ex undercover police, bodyguards, citizens at high risk) can obtain it, is it true? and if so how would someone who qualifies go about obtaining it?
every so often I see Canadian firearm channels firing 10 rounds from a semi automatic rifle (tavor tar-21 example), could you please explain how you can do this legally?

Was this the beginning of Wilson and Giltaca, the proto-CCFR, with Rod's 1st letter to his MP? I like to think so. Very sorry you've lost some ground since then, but I salute y'all here from 2021, TX USA, and admire you're still in the fight. Happy to support you.
+KathrynLiz1 because the people who make our laws learnt all their firearm knowledge from Die Hard and Kill Bill.
our conservation officers rely on the public to turn in poachers. if no one hears the shot...
I like your Kiwis.
Question for you please:
If a restricted firearm owner owned a large property could he/ she shoot their guns on their properties? (I'm thinking NOT, unless you get it designated as a firing range but please do tell)
No which is super silly. I knew a guy who got his yard certified as a private range (or something I’m not sure exactly what it’s called) but it cost him a TON of money because they had all the rules about the berm height and all that and after a few years he gave up
I have a Mossberg .22 10 shot mag
is it illegal to glue a fake mag to make it look cool?
I know you talked about using 10 round AR pistol Mags before. Now if I am using them in say a 18 inch barreled Kel Tec Su-16 in the bush, is that legal? Is it even legal at the range?
so if im drunk and pushing a wheel barrow or shoping cart i can get a dui? lol i moved and it was about 6 months and i only have non restricted... i called them and told them ware i lived... no prob...
sgt. Nickel - its Where . not Ware or Wear. anyone can learn to shoot a gun but stupid is FOREVER. this is why our GUN laws are the way they are.
If you drink and ride your kids tricycle... DUI.
If you move temporarily (i.e. for school), do you still need to "change your address"?
I really appreciate the videos you post, lots of great information and tons of common sense!
Great videos Rod! I have a question. Does the law consider a camper, travel trailer a vehicle? How about a tent which is set up at the back of my pick-up truck? I'm getting mixed info on this and I hope you can clarify it. Thanks!
That's a tough one. I'll have to consult with the Firearm Center on that one.
How does it work when transporting a bb pistols in canada just a trigger lock and in a case?
God Bless
Unfortunately here, it's not a right to own firearms.
The government has created these laws to harass and attack gun owners The Liberals gun control act of 1995 declared Canadian gun owners as a threat to public safety. So gun owners are monitored and checked every 24 hours in a database because they are considered mass murderers in waiting.
Subservient to aristocracy
Im in Suffolk Va brother
I know it's a 7 year old comment, but it's easier for an illegal immigrant or others to come to America to live than a Canadian, who are almost culturally and ideologically the same as an American. It's complete bs that we don't have easier means to immigrate to eachothers countries.
just curious, what is considered loaded? like rounds in the magazine, round in the chamber, or are both illegal?
Ammunition anywhere inside the firearm is loaded, even in an internal magazine. An external loaded mag is fine, just not inserted in the gun.
I see. thanks for the info!
depends on where you are for the legality of having any ammunition in the firearm at all. See my above comment at the video poster for more info.
I'm not a hunter but that sounds fine to me. Some provinces have extra regulations. I'd call the conservation office near you to clarify.
great videos , great job, lots of info, Thanks ,if on logging road in truck can I have mag loaded but not in gun?
good info. I'm looking to get my gun license soon and I didn't know about several of these rules.
question on the laws u mentioned about restricted firearms not allowed in the forest does this apply to private property that has forests etc? as im buying a cabin in the woods with 600 acres of land with over 400 acres of woods
also forgot to ask about the magazines pinning can you remove the pins and get away with other limiters that slide inside the magazines so if the ban is lifted etc they can be changed easy on your own without messing it up. thanks im soon to be joining the firearms community in Canada Ontario and so far you helped me alot for getting ready to move and live off grid hunting etc and enjoying Canada
Oliver Bishop You'd have to have a shooting range approval on the property. You can call the firearms center to inquire. Bad rule though.
Oliver Bishop Do not remove the pins. You can remove them later. There are regulations regarding the method of limiting.
Civil Advantage Can't additional magazine followers with said pins be found online?
Not sure.
SeverdSeouL very well said. Thank you very much. It's hard to fathom the level of plain stupidity out there. Just blows my mind.
I think so. You still need an ATT if you are taking it anywhere other than to/from the range.
Cheers

Less then a year ago I was one of those people that wasn't aware guns were legal in Canada. After a tour of a brand new local Cabela's I was floored to see restricted handguns for sale out on display.
I now "legally" own a 9mm Jericho 941 which I have a blast taking to the range :D
As much as I enjoy being allowed to fire off guns at approved ranges, a lot of the rules & regulations of my new found sport are pretty grey. I applaud you for shedding light on them for those of us just starting out.
I'm happy to welcome you to our community. Spread the good word!
its there any ranges in the g.t.a that you can go to and pay to shoot some firearms?
Love the channel, great work, can you clarify when you need a permit to transport? I have 2 hand guns, both are 9mm and I was looking at getting a couple of shotguns and a rifle. I was in clear on if I need a document to go to the range etc.
Thanks
Graham
Aren't the robinson XCRs now a prohib or restricted item?
So restricted guns can't be used on your property either or just on crown land?
are we allowed in Canada to own an AR-15?
isn't that a prohibited fire arm? or is it a restricted ? thanks
Yes, illegal. A restricted firearm may only be discharged at an approved shooting range. I won't tell though.
Civil Advantage OK, thanks, Civil. Bad news, but this is Canada, after all......
Might want to delete that comment.
what do you know of restricted firearms use on own or others private property. such as rural farm or ranch?
Illegal unless it is a registered gun range
A good question would be what about motor homes? Are they vehicules when on their jacks or are they a building. Key word is on their jacks because it would be like a modular home or a pillar bassed foundation.
Hey Rod . Just want to know what think about and open carry Bill in Canada and do u think this could be in the future with all the changes in the world .
Not until we change a lot of minds in the mainstream. We need to win over 10% of Canadians. Maybe then.
Excellent as always Rod. I wrote my MP for the first time two days ago. Hopefully we can get some things changed.
Thank you. As a long time firearms owner. It is good to be reminded.
you are the perfect exemple of how a pro gun need to talk to public. very interresting
Hi great video, I live on the settlement and have 10 acres so can i able to shoot my handgun ?
Thanks for all you do!
careful you do not get charged with shooting from a roadway if that deer comes wandering by... Better to stay well off roadways...
So can you just go on hunting grounds with a non restricted firearm and set up a few targets and have fun?
what are the laws around discharge of a fire arm on private property like a ranch or a farm?
Fight for your rights man, don't let it get worse in the USA. Thanks for watching.
how's the law work if ur on horseback can you have a loaded mag in it but none down the pipe
this is what liberalism does to a good nation
LIEberalism leads to socialism. socialism leads to naziism or communism (extreme left) which in turn confiscates guns then procedes to kill 10's of millions of people!

Can I be charged if I go out shooting seabirds in a speedboat?
I just subscribed.
Thank you for a very common-sense video
I live in the USA so stuff like open carry and 100 round mags are legal and you guys have it hard up there and I fell sorry for you
Where are you guys from?
What province/territory?
The paperwork doesn't keep the public safe, but it does give more power and control to the government.
And less freedom for citizens. Not a coincidence.
Exactly! CFO has it all on file and it should be in the Police records so they can simply look it up if they want to.
Question. Is a person able to store their hunting rifles at their hunting cabin? In other words can a person store their nonrestricted firearms in a building which is not their primary residence? it may be a cabin on private property or a "mini storage" in the city. looking for clarification. Thanks love your videos.
Great stuff No nonsense. Great message.
that magazine capacity only applies to semi-automatic centre fired guns
It's not even about protecting your self from evil doers. Firearms are just flat out fun and a challenge that is ever evolving and will never be mastered.
does anyone know what you do if you have more than one address?
Awesome video. Really good information to put out there, by a really good speaker BTW.
Thanks for that!
No, only a boat with a motor is (as far as I understand). Even if it was a vehicle you still don't need any secure locking devices, just unloaded.
yes canoes and kayaks enven a paddle boat is a vehicle
Oren Hobbes They are not classified as vehicles for hunting purposes. You can only shoot from a water vessel if there are no means of motorized propulsion. If there is a motor on the back, it must be removed from the transom to shoot, no electric trolling motors either. This is the law for anyone hunting from the water for any species, in Ontario anyways.
So is a dog powered sled a vehicle?
Thats true for restricted. Shotguns and rifles you can shoot outside of city limits
I got in trouble with the RCMP and almost got got charged with having concealed weapon. So good idea to keep the book with your range bags
That is a good one. Very overlooked, and true.
this is a bigger headache to buy and own a restricted gun then it is to illegally own one. I cant stand the gun laws here in Canada.
It should be! It's easier to steal a car and drive it then it is to get a license, buy a car, get insurance, plates , sticker, safety and pay gas but do we want it to be easy?
Goat what’s your point ? 5 years later.
@@yabodmon Your point is still invalid. It's easier to break the law in all aspects.
Another good, STRAIGHT FORWARD video... If only our gun laws had the same logic!
Is a horse considered a vehicle?
Great vid, really appreciate the time you've put into the series.
Hello, are those laws still in effect? As I'm under the impression some laws (the ones about transportation) changed. If any one knows the answer (and if possible could throw me in the directions of the references/laws) please let me know. Cheers!
A voice of reason in the widerness.
thats why our laws should be more like american laws as far as guns go, and yes i have my PAL, but i think we go a little overboard in canada as far as ownership and transport goes, considering that criminals arent going to register and or ask for a att in order to move them around or even own them in fact.
ATT as of July 2015 is now apart of your R. PAL, although you still need to have a valid address on your PAL registration.
luv your vids very educational and obviously common sense..thx.....
does anyone know anything about this Canadian "authorization to carry" liscense? apparently bush pilots, armoured car guards, trappers, and those working in remote wilderness areas can get it, and in a few cases (ex undercover police, bodyguards, citizens at high risk) can obtain it, is it true? and if so how would someone who qualifies go about obtaining it?
every so often I see Canadian firearm channels firing 10 rounds from a semi automatic rifle (tavor tar-21 example), could you please explain how you can do this legally?
I left the police state (Canada) in 2001. I cannot believe how the people allow themselves to be slowly boiled alive.
You made the right choice, it's only going downhill from here. This country is unsalvageable. The brainwashing runs too deep.
So you left instead of fighting for your rights and that's our fault? LMAO! What did you do while you were here to change the laws?
