This is the best heavy duty 21 mower out on the market. So strong mulches and bags excellent. This scag mower is the best replacement of the discontinued Honda mowers.
The advantages I see from having no side discharge. The side discharge mowers have that flap that sticks out and limits the mowing closeness on that side and also catches more on obstacles and then breaks or cracks, and doesn’t get in the way when loading or storing as some leave people leave the side flap there when doing these things. Also the side discharge can be a catch point for grass if your bagging a lot as its not a smooth surface anymore, and the gap can create a weak spot where there is less steel on the side.
@@KPMExceptionalYes similar to the milwaukee 36 volt mower rear deflector. In fact a lot of mowers don’t even need that back deflector you can just tie the rear flap up about half way and the grass deflects/falls at your feet.
It’s a beast I got one when they first came out lol cost a couple bucks to get it serviced I had to change oil spark plug and filter it doesn’t make that pop anymore when I shut it down
Scag SFC-21 Excellent mower and the accessory side shoot works great. I bought mine at RAYS REPAIR 15845 GEORGIA RD MIDDLEFIELD, OHIO,44062. I mentioned where I bought it because I had a good positive experience. Seldom do I leave an establishment feeling that I was treated well.
Can you get a mulching blade along with an engine guard for the Scag 21 inch mower. In some of the videos of the machine I've seen from Scag, there is a black engine guard handle in front of the engine much like you see on the commercial Toro 21 inch. Thanks.
The blade included with the SFC21 is a 3 in 1 blade - meaning it can mulch. Scag does not make a dedicated mulching blade for the SFC21 at this time. There is an engine guard for the SFC21 - part number 926G. Hope this helps!
@@KPMExceptional Thanks for the response. This is a great help. Are there preset holes on the deck of the 21 inch Scag that the engine guard just bolts into? Thank You.
Bought one last week. They said it would start on the first pull. After first cut, I noticed a nut fell off, turns out the bracket holding the trans backed off. 2nd cut, took about 5 pulls to start, cut amazing after that. Now I can’t get it to start. Tried the throttle on multiple positions, I have gas. So idk why it won’t start. Maybe I fouled the plug?
we are sorry to hear you had a loose part! have you tried calling your local dealer? with a machine this a warranty repair would be our recommendation.
Not sure if your having the same issue I did but my fuel line was pushing on the off switch, no matter what the throttle position was. I moved the fuel line and problem was solved. I had to take apart my new mower to diagnose the issue. Was happy it was an easy fix. I posted a video and that was the last time it started until I moved fuel line.
Good evening, sir. Today, I just purchased the above Scag Mower you're demonstrating in this video. However, is there any place, website, UA-cam site, where I can get a step-by-step diagram or demonstration of how to attach the New Side-Discharge Chute I also purchased. I couldn't ask the dealer since the mower was delivered to my home by one of the dealer's truck drivers. When I lift the rear door, it appears that there may be a plug inserted. How does one remove it? Am I being too "gentle" in attempting to pull it out, and, does it require more pulling force? Then, does attaching the Side Discharge require any tools or some kind of accompanying hardware? Thank you, for your help with this. I'd like to use it for the first time this weekend.... - jack
@JackMastrangelo ua-cam.com/video/P2L3Ya0ziBk/v-deo.html In part 2 we briefly showing removing and reapplying the plug in the back. You are mostly likely being to gentle, give it a real good tug! The side discharge does not require any tools, it slips into place. Good luck, let us know how it worked out.
Good evening, Sir. Since you represent KPM Exceptional, I have a choice to make regarding the purchase of a walk-behind mower. I've been trying to decide whether I put my money on the Scag SFC21, or the yBravo 25-inch commercial? I understand that KPM sells both. Either mower would be used for my home, which happens to have some very steep hills. Thank you, for your help.
Jack, thank you for following KPM on UA-cam, we hope you enjoy the content. The direction you seek is very clear since you provided a complete description of your situation. For a property with “very steep hills” maneuverability of the mower will be of great importance to you. A smaller machine will provide better maneuverability, so therefore, in your application the SFC21 is the more maneuverable machine. Thank you for your question, it looks like we will have a great start to the season.
I know it has 3 speeds, but under stood that you could vary the speed by how much you pull the lever up to start moving, does anyone know if that is true ?
According to the owners manual the drive control bar can be engaged partially in order to adjust your speed on the fly in addition to the 3 speed variable transmission.
It is still throwing clumps with the dew in the video. personally I think a side discharge would have been a better option. short turf types will be great for this but my tall fescue will bog that thing down and clump without a better discharge.
all we can do is encourage you to try one out. people will say they are heavy, but boy do they cut nicely. taking alot of grass off or working in wetter conditions is not an issue for this machine compared to the competition in the 21" mower category.
we just realized we did not! we're going to shoot a quick video tomorrow to show the mulching. we actually mulched with it that day just didn't record the footage! Thanks for your question.

Is the side discharge good I side discharge my yards to make it a little easier on my mowers when grass is to large to bag
Just ordered mine yesterday from my local dealer. Extremely excited about it.

The side discharge on this mower actually connects to the back of the mower. It doesn’t stick out at all!

Is the side discharge available yet?? I called a store last month and they said they didn’t have it
Yes it is! It’s at your local Scag dealer. If they don’t have them in stock they can order them from their distributor.
When receiving this mower new, do you need to sharpen the blades?
No. Is this a joke.
@@rebandmike No. Many times mowers are dull from being painted or never sharpened.
Are the handle bars adjustable for taller or shorter operators?
They can be adjusted for taller or shorter people. There is no telescoping rods - but they angle at the base can be adjusted.
Thank you.

How fast is it ? Can it compete with toro’s speed ?
At 4.25 mph it sure can! You can find the spec sheet here. www.scag.com/product/walk-behind-mowers/sfc-21/
Yes
Is that it's top speed?
Top speed is stated to be 4.25 mph. Also, variable with a 3 speed transmission.

Only downside I see is the engine. If you could get the Kawasaki or Honda Pro engine I would definitely buy one
Kawasaki maybe. Honda is inferior
Having said that Kohler is at least equal to Kawasaki but nothing can't beat Briggs & Stratton, obviously
How heavy is it?
The 5 horse power unit is 132 lb. and the 7 horse power unit is 138 lb. (both without bagger).
Did I miss the mulching? I almost exclusively mulch...
We do some mulching in the follow up video here ua-cam.com/video/P2L3Ya0ziBk/v-deo.html
