It's hard to imagine that any container recovery is financially logical. And Fructus drops the topic almost immediately.
Why does it have to be Financially Viable for a Shipping Company or a Shipping Insurance Company to Recover Lost Cargo due to The Shipping Companies Negligence?
I’m NOT Tree Hugging Environmental Nut, But when a Container Carrying Hazardous Materials goes into the Ocean, such as with The Recent Containers Lost the Other Day carrying Lithium Ion Batteries, The Shipper who was Negligent in doing there Job Securing Those Goods should be Responsible for Cleaning Up THEIR Mess. The Shipper doesn’t Own the Ocean, so they should be Held Responsible for Cleaning Up their Mess as is ANY Case when a Business or Individual is Using a PUBLIC Place. Nobody wants Trash in The Ocean, we Have ENOUGH Plastic Floating Around The OCEAN!
When the Railroad has a Derailment or a Trucking has a Car Accident, they are Responsible for Cleaning Up THEIR Mess wether there is ANY Monetary Gain or Not!
Agreed. I would imagine that all goods within are lost immediately due to water contamination. I would hope that companies see the importance of removing lost shipping containers from the ocean because of the threat that they pose to smaller ships and ocean ecosystems
The content of this video has very little about recovery of shipping containers.... I lot of "filler" about cargo ships....! Just saying....

Not mentioned in the video is the danger posed to smaller vessels by containers that fall off ships but dont sink immediately. They float just below the surface and can stove in the fiberglass and wooden hulls of small vessels.
How many small vessels wander out in the middle of the ocean hundreds of miles from shore, & in 10,000 to 15,000 feet of water, not to mention the huge waves from storms.
Granted some will go 50 to 60 miles out, but I'm guessing very few or possibly none go into the middle of the ocean.
Yes, the containers can damage bigger ships too.
If you cross almost any sea in a ferry you will often see them floating just under the surface.I was told sometimes they float around at sea for years.

Yes they can detect them but obviously at night and in poor visability it is more difficult.Thats why ships usually have a 24 hour look out on the bridge or at least they should have!! The smaller containers don't cause that much damage to larger vessels as they are brushed aside by the ships swell but for a small cargo coaster for example they can be hazardous.
Interesting, but not enough information on the entire recovery process. The containers shown being recovered were represented to be older containers that had been in the water for a long time. What about recovery of recently lost containers and what is the entire process of getting them on land, inspection and disposition.
Lets be realistic here. If a container ship arrives at port and finds its missing containers somewhere along its recorded route, no company is going to spend that kind of money to go back and search for them. If they are lucky and have some camera footage of the containers falling off then maybe, maybe they will recover them IF the water isn't too deep and they are forced to by law or litigation. The admitted amount of containers that was claimed in this video is far FAR less than what is rotting on the ocean floor today. You can bet the insurance pay out on that.
What freaks me out the most is that I hear it is common for folks to immigrate using shipping containers, that those conditions are horrible enough to think of one of them falling overboard killing everyone inside is even worse…
idk. far worse happens on a daily basis at America’s souther border. People inside containers on ships falling overboard like…never happens. Kind of strange that this is the aspect of illegal immigration that upsets you.

I don't even want to go into some of the garbage that is said on this video. However, if we can build ships that hold 20 thousand containers, why can't we secure them so they don't fall off those ships? It seems to me that somebody forgot something very important!

Shipping a container via rail vs truck is night and day. If you ship via rail your going to wait 7-30 days for your container to arrive, same container sent via truck, worst case scenario you wait 4-5 days. But via rail or not, a truck is going to be ultimately what brings it to you. So honestly you don't save much sending via rail. Save $400-$1000 and wait nearly a month or get it in a week or less.. how much business will you lose waiting on it? that's for a company to figure out.
lol yeah and then have our highways filled with trucks blocking everything. not to mention hours waiting at the border. 30 days my ass little biased dont you think? I see the operation every day maybe a week for cross country, which is way more efficient by rail.

those dock trucks and forklifts are a thing that actually could and probably should be electric...
they have a small area they need to operate in and could easily be rotated out while another charged.

Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) will Close All port Operations onto its oldest Keppel Terminal, Tanjong Pagar and Brani Terminals by 2022 December.
Pasir Panjang Container Port will Temporary replace All Operations of the Closed Keppel, Tanjong Pagar and Brani Terminals.
The Affect site will be sold for Redevelopment.

And how does the train get the goods to the local store?

They should all be fitted with a GPS. Floating ones are easier. Sunken ones can also be retrieved.

Shipping Companies should be made to recover lost Containers from their Ships, simple. If a Trucks loses it's load-the Truck Company/Owner has to recover/pay to regain the load, the same rules should apply to Shipping Companies-The Ocean is not a huge Dustbin although it is treated as such.

Why recover lost containers? It is not for environmentalism nor economics. It is a matter of pride. If you are a shipper operator, saying “Teehee. Your container is in the bottom of the sea.” is a failure.

Why not manufacture the items in the country of their destinations and not have to ship them around the world ?
You measure trains per ton. You measure trucks per mile the truck drives, not ton.
Containerships are not doubling in size. Every ship stays the same size as it was when launched. NEW SHIPS are being built larger than older ships. Why can't you just tell it like it is, instead of saying things in a confusing way?
Global logistics have no alternative and sustainable model other than localisation! Its the only way buy local! Think global!

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Must be just like the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) TO IMPOSE Strict Rules regulations for Container Vessels ,just as to Airlines and cargo Airlines too to Comply.
Any Aircraft has Weight limits and so Can impose such Number limits to Maximum Amount of Containers carried on board, that can cause Instability upon Rough weather and sink the ship.
Aircraft even the largest Airliner, Giant Airbus A380 also will crash too from Turbulent weather if overloaded.

I want to clarify that if there are such Regulations and Cargo Capacity Restrictions imposed upon the Vessel leaving the port imposed by IMO ,just like the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Had Imposed to All Airlines to safety standards, Accidents will be minimal and apart of weather can easily handle throughout.

What's that train track at 9:12 ? It looks nonsensical; to do a loop and continue the same way. What's the purpose of it?
To gain 'height' because trains don't like steep hills so making a circular loop is an effective, but costly way to go up / down. The spiral tunnels in Canada is a good example. (kicking horse Pass?) There are youtube videos of other examples although I can't think of them right now.
