- Rare video of Michael Jackson recording We are the world in the studio. All fans want to know how Michael worked and not much is known about it. This video gives a little insight in the process. On the background you can hear Quincy Jones. Enjoy!
One thing i noticed in this video is that michael is hard on himself. When he messes up you can see it on his face. He is a perfectionist, but in the end this is why he is the best selling artist of all time.
StRider 99 he is..
"Michael Jackson's Thriller, estimated to have sold 65 million copies worldwide, is the best-selling album.[1][2][3] Although sales estimates for Thriller have been as high as 120 million copies, these sales figures are unreliable.[4] Jackson also currently has the highest number of albums on the list with five, while The Beatles and Madonna each have three."
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums
Thomas Murrell but the beatles and Elvis sold Overall more records... Michael Jackson has 750million. Elvis has 1.5 Billion and The beatles 1.6 Billion
Thomas Murrell that's thriller, he has the biggest selling album but overall I think he's 3rd
Elvis wouldnt be shit if it wasnt for a young Forrest Gump showing him some sweet moves. 🤣
their will never be another person like Michael Jackson ever
I know he was a peaceful man with a big heart
+Jordan Dupree I agree with you I don't understand how anyone could be so hateful towards him and make up the lies they did cause he had so much love to give to the world and he gave all he had to ppl and then some no matter what ppl did too him or said about him he never stopped giving and loving ppl I admire him so much for that and I truly thank him from the bottom of my heart for all he did and gave us and the legacy he left his music and dance and humanitarian will live forever and ever the most kindhearted person who has ever graced this planet I'll always be his fan I have been his fan since 1980 and will always be his fan forever and ever
***** yes very true
Ruth Nice children are lucky
Dirk Diggler if you hate him why are you here
Seriously, how could someone even hate this legend. You can directly tell that he isn't even capable of hurting a bug.
ikr
Ryan awwwww rlly??
Yes sooo true and he had to get a secuirty gaurd and made sure it wasnt killed
@@cats.anddog3630 its on his tour he did look it up it was sooo cute dude

Thats the link to the video of his cute moments the beginning shows how he called the security to grab the bug
Now imagine how great it'd be to witness him singing privacy of his own studio without the cameras pointed at him - what an incredible voice. The worlds greatest entertainer no question.
highly questionable... but no doubt MJ is timeless
When Michael said "Sorry I forgot." I was like ❤️
His smile is what sold it for me.
His voice is so Flawless. We all miss you Mike. There will never be another you.
His voice was just so beautiful!
Talia Oliver you sexy black women sister u are fine took me 3 trs to say this
After everything that has been said about him, the bottom line is this: as a recording artist, it is virtually unheard of for a vocalist to deliver such a consistent performance as this. The man must have been an engineer's dream to work with. There is no wonder why his music has survived this long.
Jim Gardner I was thinking the same thing. It's almost as though he's singing to a recording of himself, and yet he isn't. Fabulously flawless. And I love that no matter how many times he sang the same verse, his body moves and he's into it, just like it was the first time he sang it. Pefection personified. I miss you, Michael!
He was a student of music
HardyGirl66 Back in those days (and indeed still to some extent now) if you wanted to create what's known as a 'double tracked BV' you had to sing the same parts over and over again so the engineer could piece each different take together, so it closely matched the lead vocal. This allows the engineers to 'pan' one vocal track to the right, another to the left, and a third in the middle, which creates a phased or flanged sound, that pads out the sound of the voice to create a chorus or choir type of effect. There are some electronic processes which can do this automatically (such as one method devised by John Lennon and Beatles recording engineer Geoff Emerick) but there's no replacement for doing it the hard way. Unfortunately not all vocalists are as precise as Jackson, so it can be a slow and time consuming process - because if you get it wrong it can be distracting to the ear. But what Michael is doing here is basically singing exactly the same part each and every time, meaning the engineer is spoiled for choice when it comes to mixing the track, rather than having to scramble around for the one good take to be used. They're literally getting perfect take after perfect take, one after the other, and MJ doesn't even seem to break a sweat. You can ask any top flight recording engineer how often this happens and no matter who they've worked with, from Freddie Mercury to Steve Perry, it's virtually unheard of. So, to the uninitiated, who may nevertheless appreciate this as a good Michael Jackson performance just on the face of it, to professional musicians and recording engineers, this is the sort of performance you only get with years and years of daily discipline, and total commitment to your art. This, to me, makes this small clip just as much of an impressive performance as any he has ever given.
Leonardo Nasir Slightly different delay times, known as early reflections, create a feeling of space which help to enhance the effect I described earlier. So he could be using the sound of the room to further add to this, and is asking MJ to stand back slightly, so he can increase the input gain on the Microphone to capture more of the room. MJ would have to stand back so as not to 'clip' the Mic preamp - although, interestingly enough, he could also be asking him to stand back so they get just the right amount of 'clip', which on old analogue recordings was known as tape compression.
+Jim Gardner I spend most days in a professional recording studio with an AKG C12. A perfect take is rare when the track hasn't yet been demo'd, but for singing specifically, it's actually pretty common to get perfect takes.
Michael was incredibly good at what he did, but like Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, and most greats of history, I feel people are drawn to mythologize their abilities.
Amazing artist. I wish he was still here making hits
:(
how could any one have hatred towards this big hearted person
They are brainwashed by media
I agree I don't understand why either but they chose to be brainwashed by the media and tabloids
Only an evil person. R.I.P. The king of pop
***** very true and i have always wondered the same thing
Avery Sorrells well he did rape boys so...
7:27 OH MY GOSH!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH when he sings in that high pitch "THERE'S A CHOICE WERE MAKING..." And he doesn't cease every time he does it!!! :)))))))
scottjulie27 omg yes no one talked about that!!! He's truly incredible 😘
What a beautiful voice he sang...
최지원 ikr!!!
He had a flawless falsetto!
Its adorable 😍
I can't believe how soft spoke, and calm he is. Never lost his temper. His music has a message, his character was amazing!. Micheal I hope and pray you truly are at peace and filled with Joy, singing in heaven. May God bless you and your family.
Can't believe he's been gone 7 years this year 2016. RIP Michael like Marlon say maybe now they'll leave you ALONE.
Mj was perfection
What's really interesting in this video is Quincy's technique of recording vocals at different distances from the mic to create that choral effect that worked so well in that song.
So beautiful, he is so beautiful
Absolutely incredible to witness. Michael Jackson imagines and makes it happen with absolute perfection. He can sing repeatedly flawless vocals faster than the engineer can operate the tape machine-a far cry from today's recording industry. True genius and icon.
Theres lots of artists with great voices. You just don't see the footage. You only hear the end product
true. but I think that what they were trying to say is that there is NO ONE like Michael. not even close...
ughhhh I love him even more , after watching this
Yeah if it's possible
Самое лучшее, наблюдать, как творение живёт!
Parecia un nino grande , cuanta sencillez es caracteristica en los grandes , Vivira por siempre , simplemente Michael
Tears in my eyes. I miss MJ
How I LOVE Him in studio recordings and watch him...how he feels, how he moves, how he is into his mjusic. Such a long footage I have never seen before so, thanXXX.
perfect man, my heart is busting with love for you Micheal
his voice was amazing!
He records numerous times and then the recordings are stacked. It gives the impression of 'multiple voices'. Michael did it for YEARS on lots of his songs. Nowadays, they sing it once and dub it over and over. These were the days of doing it the RIGHT way.
We love you Michael
Because each take is a bit different and that's what a genius producer like Quincy Jones does. He was too close to the mic so he had to step back. He is not being over worked at all, this is how the recording process is done. Today, it would be a couple takes and then pieced together and Auto Tuned because modern day pop singers are horrible.
Engineer here! What Quincy is actually doing is layering his vocals. By doubling each distance onto each other, it creates this amazing sparkle and airy presence that is full of harmonics and good stuff. It's great to do with thinner vocals, like a man's falsetto or a really high tenor, as it adds weight and heft in a very pleasant way. It only works because Michael is so consistent with his takes that they line up so nicely. John Lennon famously used this same technique on almost every record he ever did. It's called overdubbing and is used on guitars a lot as well.
PS - A lot of modern pop stars do this as well.
Beau Stephenson also PS. Pitch correction wasn’t invented with autotune. Digital vocal pitch correction has been used since the late 70’s and really expanded on in use during the 80’s
Right instead its Michael over work them😂😂quincy said it would be perfect to him but then Michael don't think so and continue doing 1 part for 50000000% time so he say they will all leave and come back when he's done cause ain't no way 😭😭😭😭
@@BeauStephensonVoiceActor the computer does it
Michael you are and always will be an Icon. You will be remembered as the Michael Angelo of music...I will miss you.

after michael left us, the world lost one of the most vocal beings of peace, love, and unity. Who do we have left?? As you can tell, the world is shouting other words.. and we need to start practicing his words to overcome.
Loved the little thing he puts on "brighter" day

I know you must be quite young so I just want you to know - nobody could never make Michael Jackson more famous. He was already as famous as you could get. I'm sorry that you'll never get to understand firsthand the absolute scale of the phenomenon that was Michael Jackson.

Wow... now I'm sad... RIP Michael... I love you man.
He seems so humble, especially at the end when he took his headphones off ever so gently, as if he was waiting for permission to leave.
no ego
Beautiful song of Michael Jackson I really like him
there are few singers that can sing as good as MJ live, just incredible. Love that man!
I could watch Michael forever. Come to think of it, I already do and I always will.

His voice...♥ Angelic, pure & simply thrilling.
love michael. he really gave us all a wonderful gift. i love that he gave us such great music.
So nice... no words to thank u for sharing this...
By pulling him back and forth they can stack the tracks and make it sound different. Its a recording technique to make one person sound like a choir. Think bohemian rhapsody.
Jay Clarkson when do you pull back and forth?!
The most marvelous person and raw talented singer on earth
he was perfection in his prime.there will never be another.GREATEST EVER
there willbe many more, but MJ MADE HISTORY

THE BEST THAT EVER!
this is why he is the KING of pop!!! I miss him so much ♡
he was so caring gentle and beautiful handsome man
RIP MJ I LOVE U ♡♡♡♡♡
It's great to see Michael being human and actually making mistakes. Reminds me a bit of bootlegs of The Beatles in the studio making their share of mistakes and goofs.
With Beatles in mind, I've posted the video, "40 years in 3 minutes", which is a music video containing the Beatles' rooftop performance, historical events over the last 40 years and 8mm film antics from the period, all cut tightly to GET BACK and GLASS ONION. Hope you enjoy!
He is awesome!❤️ i don't know why he stopped his voice sounds amazing snd his giggle❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
