Jack Ponti of Surgin' co-wrote the song with Jon Bon Jovi prior to the Bon Jovi debut. Jack and Jon were in the same band called The Rest around 1980. The Rest disbanded failing to get a record contract and some time later Jon contacted Jack in order to write this song together. Jon had the title line ''Shot through the heart'' in mind and wanted to build a song around it. Jon's band Jon Bongiovi and the Wild Ones performed the song around 1982 and it ended up on the Bon Jovi debut in 1984.
If the rest were never signed then i guess there's nothing to buy.are there demos leaked.if the b aand owns the right can they make a cd and release it themselves for surgin fans wanting more.
@@paulwilson9281 I've read interviews of Jack Ponti where he speaks highly of Jon and he doesn't raise any royalties issues. I guess Jack gets his fair share for this particular song (although I don't know if he gets royalties for the use of the title phrase in You give love a bad name, I doubt that)
Would you be content to see me crying After all those little games you put me through? After all I've done for you you're lying Wouldn't it be nice to tell the truth? Didn't somebody somewhere say You're gonna take a fall I gave you everything Now here's the curtain call Shot through the heart as I lay there alone In the dark through the heart It's all part of this game that we call love Now you've come back here to say you're sorry But I don't know who you're talking to It could be the man I used to be, girl But I've grown up and now I'm over you Standing there just a live wire With nowhere left to turn You were gonna set the world on fire When will you ever learn? Shot through the heart as I lay there alone In the dark through the heart It's all part of this game that we call love Didn't somebody somewhere say You're gonna take a fall I gave you everything Now here's the curtain call And I'm shot Baby does what baby please And baby must have what she sees But not this time, the tables turned Baby, you just got burned Shot through the heart as I lay there alone In the dark through the heart It's all part of this game that we call love

Do demos of The Rest exist?
Still fantastic 37 years on....

This cover is amazing,if not better than the original
Personally I prefer this one!
