  • Hi everyone, in this video I show you how to create a Mailchimp custom automation so that when a subscriber clicks a specific link in a campaign email it will send an email.
    ** One thing to note - - A campaign activity custom automation needs to be set up before the campaign is sent to your subscribers. **
    This demonstration of custom automation is very basic but you can imagine the possibilities.

      I only showed one specific thing you can do with a Custom automation. There are many different triggers to select from with the optional ability to add/remove tags or use segments. For example, when someone buys a specific product in WooCommerce send an email and add this tag

      @@LarrySnow that's a good questions back. I guess when I use a sign up form through my website and link the contact to my mailchimp it doesn't really matter what the sign up for inside Mailchimp is ...correct?

    • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  3 роки тому

      @@akeishadebaat2239 you can customize the sign-up form - what fields you want to be required or if you want someone to select a particular interest group. Secondly, you can customize what happens after a person signs up - do they receive a custom thank-you email, do you want them to confirm the joining of your list, do you apply a tag, add the subscriber to a customer journey, or automation series. So, there is a lot of customization you can do.

    Hi Larry! I've just subscribed to your channel and am finding your tutorials very helpful! I'm wondering if you might have a solution to this problem I'm having in Mailchimp.
    For context I have a blog about knitting and crocheting. Some of my subscribers prefer only knitting, some only crocheting, and some do both activities. I have a rather large existing email audience list that has no current segments or tags. My question is, is there a way to send out an email to my current subscribers and ask them to select what they want to receive emails on (Knit, Crochet, or Both), and additionally, send an automated welcome email to new subscribers asking them for these preferences - then upon selecting their preferences to have them automatically added to a specific group or tag (EX: Knitting, Crochet or Both). Is this possible?
    I was playing around in preferences (thanks to your great tutorial!!) and know that my subscribers can click "update preferences" where I can add groups for them to select from, but since the "update preferences" link text is so tiny and at the bottom of the email, I think a lot of my subscribers will miss it. Any advice would be super helpful! Thank you in advance!
    Also, I look forward to learning more from you! Thank you so much for your tutorials!

      Hi Brittany,
      You're very welcome for the tutorials, I'm glad they are helpful to you. As to your questions:
      By your comments, I assume you have already created the groups for your Audience list. There is no way I know of to add group options directly in the body of an email. I think Mailchimp recognized the Preferences dilemma, and while you can copy the merge tag and link it to a button so it is in the main body of the email, it is not ideal. Mailchimp has recently created a dedicated Preferences Center where you can design the preferences for your email list. You can add groups, text, images, title, etc. The Preferences Center is a Mailchimp link that you can share outside of Mailchimp or add to a button in the body of your email. The Preferences Center is located under the Audience tab. You can find more information on the Preferences Center here - mailchimp.com/help/create-a-preferences-center/
      For your automation, yes that is possible. Once contacts are added to a group send an email automatically. You can accomplish this either through Classic Automation or a Journey. If you go with a Journey, use the starting point Joins Audience Group under Contact Activity.
      If you use Classic Automation use a Custom Automation, change the trigger to Joins Group under the Audience Management tab.
      Personally, I like the Journey as you can visually see the path for your contact.
      Please note: Some Starting Point options under the Journey may not be available for a Free Mailchimp Account as well as no series of email for the Classic Automation.
      If you have any more questions let me know. I think the above is enough to get you started.

    Hi Larry. Just joined your channel. I like your way to explain everything in a simple way :-) But there is one thing, I can't figure out about journeys. I want to collect subscribers, and use different freebees (lets say three) on different pages or times, in exchange for an email adress. Every subscriber goes to the same list, but from different entries. How can I define which journey schould be activated from a specific signup form? I'm using Gravity Forms. Hope it makes sense :-)

    • @LarrySnow

      Are you using the Gravity Forms Mailchimp Add-On? Add a unique tag in the gravity form for each of the freebies. Then in Customer Journeys, have the starting point as tag added.

For existing classic automation, pausing it, set up the same automation on the Journeys, with if/else any other options, check the queue of the journey, does it line up with the queue of the classic automation currently paused, conduct testing, if all is looking good, publish the Journey, over time if there are no issues, delete the classic.

      @LarrySnow  3 роки тому

      Hi Devorah - videos will not play in an email. Instead Mailchimp converts it to a clickable image where the video is hosted. No CRM that I know of will play a video in an email. Instead of a static image linked to a video, try an animated GIF using frames from the video with a CTA to watch the full video on Vimeo or perhaps a video embedded on your website.

      @@LarrySnow hi thank you!! You have a video where you explain that they changed it and now videos can be viewed in the actual email without sending you to a third party host to watch... • @LarrySnow
      @LarrySnow  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately, Whether a campaign email or automation email, videos won’t play in the email. Either the video block redirects the contact to where the video is hosted, or you manually redirect them with a CTA to a website, landing page etc.

      You want a person who purchased a product initiate a refund request? In the order notifications series you add in a link to initiate a refund (i.e. click here if you are unhappy with your purchase and would like a refund). If someone does click that link that will trigger a custom automation. In the custom automation you can provide directions (i.e. send an email to or fill out this refund request form) to initiate a refund. There is nothing I'm aware of that is specific to issuing a refund request. You may want to take a look at Zapier as a connection between Woo and Mailchimp. There may also be add-ons for WooCommerce.
