That picture of the Ratel at 4:00 with the smashed windscreen was my brothers Ratel...........Kurt (Stompie) Oelofse callsign "33" - 61 Mech, Ops Modular..........that windscreen was smashed from the inside, a T55 shell hit the front axle and deflected up through the thin underside into the vehicle. 7:51 shows him sitting in the gunners hatch with his hand over his eyes, I recognised the Ratel....."King Tiger"! Thanks Gary, I really enjoyed the video!

Is there any chance you could send me some of the pictures in this tribute. I remember some of these guys. I’d be most appreciative for this as I’ve lost contact. I can give you the pics by specific time index on this video
Thanks for sharing this. If I may ask how did you manage to get the Artillery pictures. They bring back some lost memories and friends 😔. I am one of those guys standing next to the G5 muzzle brake on the border late 80s with the best bunch of people i've ever shared my life with.
Stunning tribute and good memories; we were quite a force! A pity it was all in vain and good mates lost for f..ckall!! May the politicians who sold us out rot in hell! We will remember them in the morning, we will remember them in the evening... we will always remember them. RIP my brothers in arms. Tango25Alpha
Absolutely true! After all these years, I can't still fully realize what happened to "Proud South Africa", the most advanced country in Africa by far! In fact, I'm still uncovering new information about the "World Plot" against the RSA. Truly sad...

There are some after battle photographs from a book (with handwritten descriptions) in your tribute. Like in 2:50 ("What remains of a T-55 after an Olifant is finished with it"). Is this from a published book, and if yes, can it be bought somewhere? Thank you!
@@AWAYWITHEVIL I had seen some of these after battle pics in books about the SADF before (like the destroyed T-55s). Therefore the question, if they were maybe published in some form. Thanks a lot for sharing them!
Thank you - amazing photos! I am very interested in the Ratel vehicles, may I ask you: - @3:00 is this the gunners sight of a Ratel-90 (Eloptro 6x sigth)? - Do you happen to have a photo of the sight of a Ratel-20 too (was it 3.5x)? I wonder: what was the effective range of the 20mm autocannon of the Ratel-20s against BTRs and BRDMs? Because you show some photos of destroyed BTRs. Could those be engaged from long range with the Ratel-20? Thanks!
Late reply but yes, the BTR's could have been engaged at any range by the 20 mm Ratel gun. The Ratel had armour piercing rounds which was fired from a belt feed, in quick succession, which would have gone right through the light armour of the BTR. The BTR had a heavy machine gun on its turret , which was effective against infantry but its ammo would only bounce off the Ratels armour.

What happened to the reliable ADE engines? According to an insider the corrupt ANC sold the Atlantis ADE plant to Cuba, which never paid for it.
