The Process
---------------------
In this video, I use Photoshop 2024 to simplify package designs from products you know and love! There's quite a bit of painting, illustrating, photo manipulation, and lighting in this one, so strap in and enjoy the ride.

Inside Out
0:49 "or maybe it's a balloon since half the bag is full of air" Lay's got roasted there but it is completely true
The reason the green skittle gets so much attention is this: Back in the day, it used to be lime. However, they changed it to sour apple once. People preferred lime, so Skittles brought it back, and decided to market it.
Just like that other brand which sells chocolate gift boxes. They removed one of the item which would come inside the box and people demanded it back so the brand introduced a whole new box which has many of just that one chocolate lol
Skittles lore. Nice
The story unfolds…
Wait, so they're actually NOT all the same flavor?
@@darkwoodmovies apparently not :/

Hyper realistic chip with extra honey and fire ✅
Frfr the Red Bull was the only good one
@@chrideefer Not from a business perspective, people can see that RedBull design a mile away and it catches their eye among the 100 other Energy Drinks. The new one will blend right in selling less over all.
@@chrideefer nah the energizer is good
@@chrideeferenergizer was fire too
Minimalist vs simple. The new design still has a lot of detail, but it's less busy. Minimalist, but not simple
I love these! The Red Bull redesign is cool, but I think the point of the blue/silver check pattern is so that it is clearly identified at a distance and amongst other cans. It stands out and is pretty iconic at this point, and I think a lot of that gets lost in a simplified redesign. But that bull you drew was sick. Would be cool to see a version with your logo but the checker pattern intact.
Yeah but I really think it would be good if he added the yellow sun to it
Just copy paste the 2016-2019 toro rosso f1 livery onto the can
It just felt like something should be in the background, the solid silver can just doesn’t feel right.
@@D_YLON14 Agreed. The sun and the two bulls represents the history of the drink connected to Muay Thai fighters and their discipline and determination. Basically, it's already iconic and simple
Blue bg would've been perfect
I love all but the red bull one, their can is just iconic and i really love the symmetry. The one you created looks great for a Chicago Bulls' special edition.
The Energizer one was insane
yeah they should just buy the logo from him. It's 🔥🔥🔥

I can't lie, some of the oversimplified logos seem WAY more detailed than the official logos, I think you accidentally improved them 😂

@@gabriellesugarful oversimplify is in the title-
the bunny with the drum makes sense because the whole percussion section of a marching band (that marches on the field) is called the battery! the bunny part not so sure, but the drum makes sense because the bunny is literally in the battery
in portuguese (or at leas here in brazil) batery is also the name for drums (bateria)
@@gisela_oliveiraBoa observação, tentei pensar em um motivo para a marcha nos Estados Unidos se chamar "battery", sendo que o instrumento seria "drums", e ser algo engraçado comparado ao português. Infelizmente não achei nada.
@@gisela_oliveirain French too!
Has nothing to do with that, it has to do with the original Energizer Bunny commercial, where they took a subtle jab at Duracell ua-cam.com/video/iJTAbYGrYDc/v-deo.html
@@TruBluMich1 where do you think they got the idea for the drums in that ad?
The tic tac simplifies logo at 8:43 looks like the sprite logo 😂
No is payless shoe source
@@TRISTAN_HERNANDEZ515what?
Great video, you're a really talented graphic designer. Incidentally, the reason that the Energizer bunny has a drum is because it was introduced in the 1980s as a toy rabbit beating a drum (powered by Energizer batteries of course) that never stopped because the batteries were so good. They did a series of commercials where there would be fake products being advertised and then the Energizer bunny would suddenly walk through the fake commercial beating his drum with narration "He keeps going...and going...and going."
The bunny toy was a parody of the Duracell bunny in the 70s!
That red bull redesign looked way to good 🔥
I love love love this series man!! Coming from a graphic design background, I've been craving good graphic design content like this! It's so enjoyable and educational!! Always more tricks to learn!!

Thanks a lot! These types of videos are a lot of fun to make cause the designs are a tad more simple and I can just do a bunch of them haha
hi
Weird to find you somewhere that isnt sdmp
i haven't watched you in years
I believe the leaf on the Tic-Tac box behind the text was to represent the mint flavor, like how strong it is, so extra mint leaf. It's that good at freshening breath.
I'm sure you're right but it's kinda weird that it's used for all of the flavors when it only fits one of them, and even then it's a bit redundant.
"or maybe it's a balloon since half the bag is full of air" BHAHAHAHAHA i can't
Fr that cracked me up 😂
.......There is a scientific reason for that... it's like crying about a lid on a bottle that contains liquid. Do some research and a bad joke isn't funny.

@@Kanoog "erm ackshually 🤓☝" ahh comment
I’d love to see you revisit your old designs and re do them with a new perspective! I think it would be so cool!
7:45 The reason the green Skittle is getting special treatment in the official packaging is because the original Skittles flavors in the US (and other countries except for Europe) were orange, lemon, lime, grape, and strawberry. In 2013, Skittles changed its original flavor line-up and replaced the lime one to green apple, causing a consumer backlash. So they recently went back and needed to notify consumers with this particular packaging that its the original "lime-up", and not green apple.
Yeah in the uk it never changed and has always been lime but our purple one in Europe is blackcurrant instead of grape which I personally think is so so so much nicer
@@maybeloisyeah I love the purple
dude I wish we had lime Skittles in France
i loved the green apple... we already have lemon, why lime in the same package 🙁
You know what would be cool to see him do? Pick a product and design 3 different designs for their packaging based on different art styles/time periods. Like, "what if pizza hut had a Victorian era packaging? Or pizza hut with a Rococo era box?" "Subway meets ancient Greece, meets ancient Egyptian packaging " lmao
OMG I LOVE THIS IDEA
I LOVE THIS
I think the original Lay's package design is already well thought out.
It's way easier for consumers to glance over the shelves and spot a familiar design that they associate with their favourite flavour. Having it signified simply by the color and a piece of text would be a bad design choice. There simply aren't enough colors for every flavour they may produce, and reading text quickly becomes annoying and kicks the consumer out of the impulse of buying a treat.
(also there are color blind people)
6:23 skittles are nothing like m&ms lmao, you mentioned that you never tried skittles so you get a pass, but to anyone who tried both the fact that you bring up m&ms is hilarious

I think he meant it was pointless because the packaging already has mint leaves, so like why have another on the logo itself?

The Skittles packaging since they changed green apple back to lime is so funny to me.
