The folded brim is iconic of Australian Slouch Hats. The left brim was folded up to avoid knocking it against a rifle slung over the left shoulder, this is also where the General Service Badge, also known as the Rising Sun or Australian Army Badge, was pinned onto the hat.
Fun fact: when Bishop asks Foster if he's a "Kiwi", that's Australian slang for referring to someone from New Zealand. Kiwis are a species of bird native to New Zealand, as well as their national symbol. The joke is that in reality, Australia and New Zealand have a sibling rivalry and like to tease each other and make good-natured jabs just like a pair of brothers would.
"You lied your way into hell on earth!" I love that moment and that quote. Some people just don't understand how hellish I can be. I've talked to a lot of veterans about their time in service and they all ultimately say the same thing "war is hell".
Agreed. And it’s not just current media that glorifies it. Songs were sung of heroes dying in battle and stories told since wars have been fought. But the reality is very brutal 😱
One of the Ottoman Officers, later over all commander for the Ottomans defence and then later leader of Turkey was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and in the inital landings when he was bring up reinforcements to try and push the Anzac's back and stop them going further in land before launching an attack that looked suicidal he said "I don't order you to fight i order you to die, in the time which passes until we die, other troops and commanders can take our place."
I remember the first time I played through this story. It was by far my favourite and man it hit my gut when that music started along with the one line "Good kid"
I like how at around 12:00 one of the last shells didn't explode on impact on the right. If it was intentional that's pretty cool since unexploded ordnance happens even with more recent conflicts. So stuff like mines count too I suppose but when areas are bombed sometimes they just don't detonate. Arma 3 has a dlc that has a section where someone goes to a church where his brother who was soldier was killed (I think) and he got killed by a mine that was left behind during the holdout the soldiers had. You play as one of those soldiers and you set up mines and the like and after you leave they were left there. There's another section where a cluster bomb is used on a village and some didn't explode either. You can even see which ones and could mark them. It's a real issue that's pretty terrifying to think there's stuff like that just waiting to go off that no knows about

Battlefield 1 honestly had the best immersion in the game and simulated the chaos perfectly. The Prologue of the game has you control different soldiers with each of them dying at the end, and before everything you get a bit of text saying this: "What you are about to witness is a reaction of the world's most brutal wars to date. You are not expected to survive"
The song is a Macedonian folk song and was sung by Turkish singer Aliye Mutlu in the Battlefield 1 game. The singer's ancestors date back to the Ottoman Empire. What a meaningful production. THANK YOU EA GAMES...
Fun fact for you guys. The song at the end is a Macedonian folk song called Zajdi Zajdi, a very sad song about how youth never comes back. The lyrics are basically "Set, set clear sun..." Soooo when you know this the cutscene at the end is even more beautifull and cuts deeper if you will. To this day this is one of the best stories in gaming imo.
I remember playing the campaign and during the last cutscene in this video with the singing my mom came into my room and had asked where the music was coming from, and it caught her attention because she has heard the song before but in Bosnian and I thought this was such a cool and unexpected moment!
Its difficult to put into words what Gallipoli means to Australia. It was a our real first opportunity to forge an identity for ourselves as a people and nation. We had only been independent of the UK for 13 years (1901) when WW1 started. No hard feelings towards Turkey as they were just defending their homeland in a war that ultimately should never have happened, but human nature is what it is. Thankfully we have reasonable relations with Turkey these days and every year we hold a very special memorial service in Gallipoli alongside Turkey where we all remember our fallen.
One of the things that i absolutely loved about BF1 was that it covers WW1 and not WW2 for like the millionth time. The countless amount of WW2 games that are made and yet so little of WW1. I mean WW2 was awful obviously, but we shouldn't try to make WW1 seem like it was nothing, you know.
As an Aussie, playing through this campaign really hit me emotionally. Most games that you see involving wars you just see the US and the British kicking all kinds of ass, but the only times you see any member of the ANZAC's they're the comic relief (Just look at CoD Vanguard). All of the stories of BF1 are the exact opposite of what you see in a CoD campaign, that is to say that the characters are not invincible action movie heroes, but people that had to go through hell and back.
When i was doing my basic training for the army, batalion chaplain told our unit: "You are not here to save the world. Army wants only three things from you: to load, to kill and to die. Where we go, we destroy. Some one will come after us and rebuild and make it all pretty again, but not us. No matter how you look at it, we only destroy" On a more positive note... since its the holiday season, I would recommend to you "The Goff Rocker - 'Ere We Go" for some 40k and "Ogryn Story" by Warrior Tier
Battlefield 1 was such a great game, I remember spending hours playing both the Campaign and Multiplayer which were amazing. Tbh BF1 was the greatest BF game out there, wasn't a fan of BF 2042 and BF 5. I wonder what's the current player count of BF1 today? Haven't played it in years

"Istanbul was once Constantinople, now it's Istanbul not Constantinople..." Laughed when you started singing that, so good job. Good reaction, I suppose, not really much to say. This game did do a fantastic job at showing the horrors of war and how every faceless soldier is in fact a person with their own story, their own hopes, fears, dreams, desires. Fun times. Cheers!!!
Fun-fact dreadnoughts are normally just a buffed up version of a battleship. Same caliber of weapons but the weapons are sometimes doubled in size to allow for extreme aoe. The River Clyde was modified cargo ship with two doors on each side of the ship with rams leading to the beach, sadly the Ottoman machine gunners targeted the doors leading to every 3 out of 5 men landing from the Clyde being killed or wounded. And since I know Bethany likes to try and find hope in things, well their was a remarkable story from the River Clyde, one of the men who landed from the ship River Clyde was Guy Knightingale he landed once but was ordered back onto the River Clyde due to the boat that was being used a pior for the troops to get to the beach being full of wounded and so he had to land a second time, both under heavy fire, Guy Knightingale would actually go on to fight through and survive the whole campaign, he even survived the war as a whole.
Reminds me of that line from Epic Rap Battles of History, Theodore Roosevelt vs Winston Churchill where Teddy said "Let's face it, You're not all that great you Tossed away lives in Gallipoli like they were Scraps of your plate" because a lot of Australians and New Zealanders were sent to die there for essentially nothing.

The Runner is definitely one of the best campaigns of Battlefield 1. They're all good in their own ways, of course, but The Runner shows both the fact that this is urban warfare - someone's life, hundreds of times over, is here and here alone, and now it's getting levelled by both sides. And it also shows that both sides are basically throwing their front lines forward to die, in this case the British and their allies sending waves against the forts and fortified positions and the Ottomans defending while they wait for the next naval artillery barrage to bring down the roofs over their heads. And at the end of this campaign, and historically this entire battle, the lines didn't even change. The Italian campaign, 'Avanti Savolia!', is also like that particularly at its turning point in the middle. I heavily recommend that one, as well as 'Nothing Is Written' which shows that the Ottomans weren't exactly any better to anyone else. 'Through Mud And Blood', which I believe you might've already watched, is a really good one for just how much loss someone can go through in even a single mission, much less the whole war.
Another request down...you guys are just the best ,I only have 3 request left until you will have done all my request, thank you guys, you guys continue to just always come through for this community, no matter how seemingly silly, random or out their the request seems you get to if eventually, and we thank you, the only things left are the greatest speech in history Alexander the great by epic history Dead rising 2 cutscenes including case west and off the record and Jakku first wave a 3 minute star wars fan film that in my opinion has better acting and story then the entire sequel trilogy, Thanks again and cheers 🍻
If you think of it as a game, it's nothing. If you think of it as the history of humanity and brutality of war, it sends a strong message. A message that we must avoid war at all costs.
Battlefield 1 is my favourite campaign in any game, to bring a true realisation of the sheer horror this war wreaked on its fighters over the player as they go through it, immerse you in a world where country comes before your life and the mission is paramount its real and yet surreal. While the gameplay is way faster paced than an actual battleground in a war it takes nothing away from the story
Realistically the real battle was a massacre for us; however - it was one of the best retreats the allies have ever done in the war. The enemy had no idea so many people retreated back to the sea. Gallipoli could not be taken. (Please correct me if I am wrong anyone in the comments)
My Great Great Grandfather fought during WW1 on The Western Front in The French Army at The Battle of Verdun and The Second Battle of The Marne and his home and farm was destroyed due the war so after the war he was homeless but he managed to get some money and move to America where he had a son who would later fight in WW2 and fought on Omaha Beach and The Battle of The Bulge
I love that the story is framed as an Ottoman victory. At the end of the day, as much as we think of ourselves as the "Allies", we were invading their home so I feel this was the perfect take on how history surrounding war SHOULD be told.
Framed as ottoman victory? As far as I am concerned they won the battle and ultimately managed to defend their homeland. The baddies in this regard is the British Empire and its allies, wish we could see it from the Ottoman perspective.
@@shykorustotora What are you even smoking? What bad did the Ottomans do? The British wanted to conquer Istanbul and the Ottomans were successful in defending their homeland. They again tried to split Ottoman Empire after WW1, but then you had the Turkish revolution where the Turks literally beat British, French, Italian and Greek. If it wasn't for Ataturk there would be no country today named Turkey ftfy.
@@evilleader1991 It's comedic that you say the Ottomans were defending their "homeland" when their ACTUAL homeland was several hundred miles to the East. Someone obviously doesn't know much about what happened in 1453 but AAAAAAAAAANYWAY... This one was different. More mature, more nuanced and not much jingoism to speak of. Most battlefields were frnakly made as a typical broshooter yearly installment with as much Michael Bay and James Cameron that could be installed in it. Not this one. The half brim is for your rifling, keeping your hat on and your rifle trim in parade or battle.
