    The best acquisition for my eBay store last year was a large number of records I got for free from a curb alert. A family was cleaning out a departed loved one's house, and the front yard was covered in hundreds of records, in all sizes. It was mostly common worthless LPs, which I picked through and grabbed what I wanted, but they also had one big box full of 45s, and one big box full of 78s. I took the full boxes and looked through them when I got home, and there was a lot of good stuff in there. There were a bunch of other people there, but they were all interested in the LPs. They couldn't care less about the 45s and 78s, which gave me an advantage. That box of 78s was a near backbreaker. Those shellac records are crazy heavy when piled together.
    I also got a vintage radio still new in the box that was in their dumpster. They were just gonna throw it away. It sold almost immediately to someone who had been looking for that exact model for years. The buyer was so thankful I had found one.
    I consistently make more money from curb alerts than I do garage sales and estate sales, but I still go to the latter two, because I have fun doing so. I enjoy exploring the houses that have estate sales.

    You are very lucky if you can get out to car boots or anywhere selling anything even markets, shops. I can't get out with my disability to be able to look around these places. I'm just amazed at the items you got and the price you paid for the boxes, Don. The information you give out is worth a fortune to many sellers, Thank you so much for the video, Don. Bringing back some memories with those 8mm and 16mm reels, even that WIKO box. I had a job in the 90s transferring those films to VHS. And as usual love the old commercial at the end.

    Super interesting, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Resellers are all so different. I'm in it for the hunt - I love to see what I can find at thrift stores, I love not being "targeted" and just seeing what treasure I can uncover that day, and I love acquiring new information about stuff I didn't know about. Thanks for sharing what you've learned.

    The auction Professor is yet again 100% correct in his opening comment about honey holes. Don’t reveal their locations. I am constantly asked where do I find the items that we resell. These items are everywhere. The question is are you prepared when they are seen. Knowledge is the key and IMHO , more so than having the cash. The money can easily be acquired if one is willing to relinquish a slice of the pie. Don, thanks again.

    Awesome stuff! Recently, I came across a bunch of those little wonder records from the 1910s-20s. Not big value but I got them for next to nothing and they all will sell.

    Help, please. I got a 2 cent harding stamp on an envelope in a box of ephemera. I know zero about stamps, but it looks to me like some of these are worth very big money. I do not want to underprice it by mistake. Can you suggest somebody or some way to get an opinion from somebody knowledgable, even if I have to pay a few bucks. Thx.

    You should be so proud of yourself or your kids have a real hero , to be able to support your family the way you do .lm 66 years old , retired , used to build million dollar hi rise elevator mostly in Chicago , but I worked all around the country doing 40 t0 80 story hi rise projects . I was always proud of what I did , but I was supported by a great union that supplied me with me all the knowledge I needed , of course you needed to understand what you needed to learn to finish a project that I was involved with ! My family got all the perks that went along with the great paychecks I would received. You built all yours all by yourself , you are an amazing guy , and the more videos I watch of you the more I realize how very special you are , believe me I don’t give out complements often or easily ! I have never given any one on UA-cam a dime by joining any group to receive something more then I can view on UA-cam premium , ( no commercials) , but yours I will! Don, you are what I consider a self made man ! God bless you and keep you whole for many many years so you may inspire others !

    Funny I just saw a shopping cart at goodwill full of those records, maybe 50 or more, some in sleeves, some in folders for $1.99 each. I thought I might be passing up on some money. And I've come across them before as well. But like you said I have no idea which titles to look for or how to grade them and it would have taken too much time to try and look them up then and there on my phone. I need to study up on it.

    • @LannieLord
      @LannieLord 11 місяців тому +2

      Those records are "needle in a haystack" sales . You have to go thru and research HUNDREDS to find a "quick sell" big dollar record.

    What happens if you sell a BULB and then after a WEEK of working - it DIES and the buyer wants his money back ?????

    • @Antiqueexcavator
      @Antiqueexcavator 11 місяців тому

      It’s happened to me. I just issue a refund as if they open a return within 30 days I’ll have no choice anyway. If they work, they usually don’t die so quickly when selling volume it’s just part of the cost.
