Honestly I wish tool manufacturers would release wall adapters for their products. But they won't do that because that would lose them tons of money in battery sales.
I mean I did at first as well and I agree it wouldn't be a bad idea. But honestly as my battery collection has grown due to taking advantage of free battery sales, I honestly can't say I would buy one anymore. I honestly have 4-6 charged batteries laying around at any given point, so why fool with a cord?
@@OmegaGamingNetwork The more I use my batteries, the sooner they will die. I have the angle grinder and used it to build a bullpen wayyyyy away from any outlet. Super convenient so I don't feel bad when I run out of juice. But when I'm in my shop working on things running out of juice is a kick in the nuts with an outlet right there
@@alminhelex fair enough and when I get to the point where I need to start replacing them and don't need any new tools, I might feel differently. But for now at least, I've only had one battery die in the past 3 years. The rest are going strong. I'm happy to not drag around extension cords if I don't need too.
Aren't wall sockets limited by 20 amp breakers though? I read that battery tools don't have this limitation (Milwaukee HO batteries can output 40-50 amps) and therefore have more potential. And as others have stated, it you wait for battery sales/deals, you can get them for free or at a pretty reasonable cost.
@@OmegaGamingNetwork My 2 5ah batteties for my Milwaukee are seeing the light, and I have fried an 8ah lol hopefully the 6ah with the better layout to stay cooler will survive a bit longer.
Thanks for this I always knew my Metabo could go toe to toe with the Milwaukee impacts I have handled. It is also nice to know that Metabo was telling the truth about the corded supply having slightly less power.
they are very conservative...all my tools are metabo :))). Love their encapsulated BLDC motors, no dust inside.
Indeed, I've been a fan for a long time. I'm glad to see them tested and do well. They may not always be the best and do/have had some issues, don't offer as wide a range of tools; but they're always a good value, usually a pleasure to use, and perform among the best, cordless drills, miter saws, you name it. They work as expected. The 36 volt multivolt system is great for those of us with 18 volt models. Pop on the 36V battery and get 18 at twice the current.

@@bradleycooper5436the same. It's a 36v motor. When you plug it into the wall, the adapter changes 120 or 240 into 32. You then end up with 32. Did I mention that it's a 36v motor?

Edit 2.0 So I now own both the 3/4 and 1/2 version of this impact. They are both very similar in power to each other. They are basically the same size and weight which is extremely heavy compared to other brands. I have switched careers from hiway trucks and now work on heavy duty stationary engines and compressors. This 3/4 worked fine for semi lug nuts (450lb/ft) but cannot touch most large head bolts (650lb/ft) I have to crack them loose first by hand and the 1/2 is extremely bulky for its power output so I rarely use it. But for the price they cannot be beat. I’m probably going to upgrade them for something with more power soon.

How would you say it stacks up to the Milwaukee M18 in your experience? Would you recommend the 1/2 or 3/4 Metabo/Hikoki for someone who needs a budget friendly impact and doesn’t need a super amount of beans? I guess they get the job done right? I recently switched to Hikoki tools and I am starting a Hikoki collection and I want to know which impact to go with

I have always enjoyed Dark Green tools for almost a decade now, because their cost to power ratio is pretty good. Once again, I’m no pro but I do like a quality reliable tool. Anecdote: I switched to dark green after a newer yellow brand let the smoke out (not too long after purchase) that plus their saws not being quality I would expect for the price. I sought out something new and it was dark green 😍 (and M12’s).
Honestly, that yellow brand is out -performed for longevity by everything. I have Ryobi tools that have lasted longer than three Dewilts my dad's bought in the same time period...and my tools get about 10x the actual use.
We need an "about me" video from you guys! You (and your cohorts if you have any), appear to work in the automotive industry like a lot of us here, but definitely have more knowledge of torque and physics from the usual technician. We're curious!

I really like mine, I've had it for 2 months. Ive noticed that low speed you had noted as well. It feels like sometimes it spins faster than other times and I'm not sure why it does that. My favorite part of owning the tool is that after a day of rotating tires constantly my wrist doesn't feel like it's gonna fall off from all the impacts.

I'd like to see you test some of the lower torque models as well like the WR18DBDL2Q4.
I use several cordless tools and usually go for makita as my everyday stuff, but.... My Hitachi impacts are always stronger. Hell, I can take off car and light truck lug nuts with my Hitachi impact driver!
I've used my Hitachi impact driver on cars before too. It's great for saving time on most fasteners. I really think Hitachi/Metabo HPT make some really good cordless tools. I've had my 18V drill and two batteries for 7 or 8 years. I think the batteries are starting to show signs of age, but all things considered I am very pleased with the performance overall. They are a fantastic value.
I really enjoy that milwaukee is the base comparison for 1/2 inch cordless impacts.

Hpt feels better to me than milwaukee for sure. I love the smooth clock of the battery vs my milwaukee tools.
Looking forward to the tool truck episode as I have a mix of snap on and Mac(red dewalt) power tools. As for metabo, that name is very synonymous in the welding world as some of the best grinders made in Germany. Now that the wife’s toy company owns them it’s nice to see them still doing well.
Grainger would come to my work to show off new tools and I was asking reps from each cordless tool company why can't I have a plug in adapter for my cordless tools . They all laughed and said why would you want to put a cord on a cordless tool ? I just shook my head . Maybe so I can have consistent performance on the 50 bolts I have to remove on a piece of equipment . Nothing worse than diminishing performance especially on old nicad batteries and then I have to manually go back to hand tools and use the tool as a glorified nutrunner . Well it only took them 20 years to see what I told them was a great idea . What is the maximum amps that adapter puts out and does it maintain the voltage at max current output ? Lower voltage draws more current to get the same output . Could you please take adapter apart so we can see what they are using to rectify to DC from AC and if it is a transformer or a switching power supply and voltage regulated .
My question, why use a cordless tool with a cord when you can get some sort of corded tool that would function the same and probably be cheaper. The only advantage I can see now is they really don't make corded tools as much now. I would think an air tool would be the lightest, with very good power.

Actually there advantages to the DC motors in these tools, it's just the batteries that suck. Better than the Nicad days, but still suck in the long run.
Also, being able to go cordless when needed without 2 tools would be handy. But when in a shop with constant power available changing/charging batteries all day sucks.
@@snoopdogie187 with Metabo HPT u can use it where there isn't power but utilize it where there is saving battery longevity as well as increasing your overall run time and work capacity and not have to carry around a corded and cordless tool in your truck-makes a bunch of sense and we utilize the AC adapter at our Mitre saw, table saw, router , grinder, SDS Max rotary hammer and vacuum stations on the job site-if we need it for an area where not AC is around we put a battery in-its awesome and has given us more longevity on our batteries as well and lessens the # of batteries needed overall saving gobs of $

Cordless tools are scam. While I won't sit here and say all of the tool truck tools aren't a scam either, some of them cost the same as what you could buy from amazon and have the same and/or better power as a cheap scam tool from the hardware store designed to fail in 2-3 years.

Very interesting... I've seen that wall adapter and thought it was a good idea. Especially for a finish carpenter using the mini circular saw all day.
Would make more sense to just buy a corded saw, then with two tools you put less wear on each, and can move around without dragging a literal brick with you on the extension cord.
Some people don’t want two saws though.

Are those going to even be in the realm of something you could hold, or would that take a rig? lol I don't recall seeing anyone do more thank kick start a few hundred CC in quite a few years... Impact peak is one thing, but to power through compression? (or does compression get more even with more cylinders? ... eh, either way a starter doesn't sound weak to my unknowledgeable self!)

I figured the plug in adapter would have boosted the output torque, but as demonstrated it did the opposite. Course a dedicated corded impact would be totally different anyways, but a great demo that plugging in an adapter on a battery tool don't necessarily mean it'll make it better.
The corded option is also more environmentally friendly if you're simply using your tools within a small area of work with receptacles.

the lower performance of the corded thing is because of the wire. the actual converter that makes the 36/40V is in the brick and the wire between the adapter and brick is what causes a voltage loss and thus lower total power.
@@1pcfred the brick can push out 50A. that is more then what the batteries can do for any reasonable time.
@@1pcfred its litteraly written on the unit by law what the output is. No need to guess or test. The power loss over the wire is simple ohms law.
you should test the 3/4" drive version of this, would love to see how it compares to milwakee's 3/4" m18 and makita's 3/4" xtg

Man I'd love to see you guys get your hands on Narex 60V impact since I really have no idea how it stacks up against more known brands but I really don't know if you can get one...
Could be the losses in efficiency with the ac to dc inverter that makes the powerloss compared to the battery. Making 2000w in from the wall but around 1200w out from the adapter (up to 60% efficency at 120v) that would make it 33amps at most compared to around 35amps of the battery.
Metabo has a lifetime warranty as long as the tool line is being made. When the tool line goes away, so does your warranty. Also, all of my Metabos are IP56 rated...
IP56 = Protected against harmful dust (first digit) with protection from strong water jets and no harmful effects of strong water jets from all directions (second digit).

lol, do you realize what the IP56 rating on their impacts is? That is only for the hammer mechanism itself, dust or water will wreck the rest of the tool long before it would have wrecked the hammer mechanism, aka creative marketing that has limited purpose. Also, typically the batteries are not rated for that so where will you use the tool without the battery?
I mean exposure for a moment, sure a coating can keep the tool running but regular exposure, will destroy it and would likely be considered abuse that is not covered under warranty.
@@stinkycheese804 It doesn't matter since the original purchaser has a Lifetime Lithium Ion Tool Warranty and a two year warranty on batteries.
"Lifetime is defined as the serviceable life of the product. This is defined as the period during which all components are available." So, it's when you are outside these warranty windows that dust and water matter! So, I guess you better have some back up tools!
I wash my impact driver with soap and water if it gets black crud all over it. That drives ip56 doubters crazy
The motor and controller are putty'd into their own walled off sections in the shell and the controller itself is contained within a massive 1/2 inch solid acrylic brick with wires coming out of it. 😁
The only real concern in a tool like this is (probably) just maintain the rust inhibitor on the stator from time to time
Metabo did actually honor the warranty of an old Hitachi drill that I've had for about 5 years. The chuck wore out and was giving me issues. Sent it in to Metabo, they replaced the chuck with a new one and had the drill back to me in under 2 weeks. I was pleased to say the least and now own basically the entire 18-36V lineup. Great luck out of them all so far.
You're implying that once the tool becomes discontinued it's done. That's not true at all. As long as there are still parts for it, it's covered. That also doesn't mean they won't just give you the new version. They generally carry parts for 10 years after it's discontinued. This is per their words exactly.
Are you guys planning on testing the Metabo HPT 3/4 in version? I'm curious to see how it stacks up against its 1/2 counterpart, both corded and cordless.
It is only rated for a 40 or so more lbs than the half inch so I don't know if it's worth it. I have the 3/4 model but there didn't seem to be enough interest to ship it to them.
Just curious, have you done a video on the Milwaukee 2769-22 2"ext anvil 1/2inch drive. Be really interesting to see how it stacks up to the original 1/2inch drive m18
I have The larger of the 2 Dewalt Vacuums that comes with an optional cord in the event you dont have battery or its dead. I have found the cord to be much weaker than the battery mode. I typically use the 60v 6ah batteries which is notably more powerful. However it's a vacuum.
I would like to see wether the high torque impacts have enough power for a tool like the OTC hubgrappler.

There is a new model of hikoki. Its a mid size 36v impact, and im really curious how that does compared to this one. Because i have this one but its way to bulky for normal use. So if the mid size is good as well i would consider buging that to.

Just brought a new 3/4 metabo looks a bit different to this one , 18 Volt in Australia 🇦🇺 , model is 1750 Nm on the box my guess is it will be a beast , yet to put it to the test .
Durofix DXP 60V Cordless 1/2" impact claims 1500 beans. If its anything like the jump we saw with the 40 volt makita it could be the most powerful 1/2 out there.
I have 2 of the Metabo 36v Angle Grinders. They hold their own, no problem, and the batteries last for days. But, man, there is allot of heft there to lift.
You should test the Power Torque 20V 1/2 inch impact wrenches.
You should try a real Metabo impact like the ssw ltx 400 or 600. That would be interesting, (they are popular brands in the Eu)

Adapters don't effect breaker bars nearly as much because there is a constant force (only once overcoming that resistance) rather than the hammering action that keeps having to overcome it on every blow, assuming apples:apples quality. Frankly it is a bit irrelevant, breaker bar may not fit or else could just use a larger one, when the whole point was to not have to use one and go faster.

Awesome testing, I’m really thinking of getting into Metabo HPT line mainly for the angle grinder and being able to use a cord and battery!
I doubled down into the same impact, grinder, hammer drill, and recip saw. No complaints at all, phenomenal tools
Also took advantage of there webpage promotion at the time, buy a tool and register it on there website with proof of purchase. Then you get a choice of a free 4ah 36v battery or the wall adapter. I got a lot of batteries now + 1 adapter 😀
Absolutely the 36V grinder, SDS max Rotary, vacuum, router, portable band saw ,10" table saw are all great tools to utilize this hybrid cordless/corded option
About 10 years ago I adapted my craftsman cordless tools to run off a car battery. It let me run my sawzall and skillsaw much longer without bogging. These lithium batterys are great now though.

Plus I've had some of my Milwaukee, Makita and Hitachi batteries for over 10yrs and they are still charging and working
Iirc, the way the metabo hpt lifetime warranty works, is "for the life of that model" - guaranteed as long as they haven't discontinued it. Just as an fyi, it's good to know how long your hpt tools have been out before buying if the warranty is important.
Actually I contacted Metabo HPT and it s the time they make the parts as well and confirmed that they plan on having most of these current tool parts for 5-yrs after discontinuation

Thank you for another Great Video. I am researching for my next tool purchase. And most certainly will be my impact and drill. Which right now is a five years old plus Hitachi twelve volt. So far this is all I have. At some point I will have to replace. And the Field is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. As a Aircraft Mechanic I don't need the biggest or heaviest tools. But I do need is more torque versus carrying a lot of weight. I may have to take apart a wing, maybe something like a Boeing 747. Carrying that tool until the job is done. The twelve volt has carried the day so far!!! The question I need to ask is should I stay in the Hitachi tools lineup or I keep looking? Again thank you

Take a 12v impact and hook it up to either m18 battery or just a straight car battery
What happens when you take apart the biggest battery of a brand and replace the li ion cells (18650/21700) and put in the best high drain cells you can get. Like the molicel p45b 21700 cell or molicel p28a 18650 cell
Power loss with the ac adapter would be cause it stays at a steady 36 volts and the battery when fully charged would be closer to 42 volts. 4.2v per cell x10 cells = 42 volts.
When you put a battery cell under a load though the voltage will drop, so even though you may measure it at 4.2V fully charged it will run much lower when loaded.
@@GuyFromJupiter That is often true but something else to be tested/measured, as these larger cells in a higher voltage pack, won't necessarily droop enough to be significant in a brushless tool. Either the initial 36V, or the AC/DC adapter droop under load, or the losses over the power cord, were obviously a factor so the delivered power was lower than with the battery.
Was this an original AC adapter from Metabo? Is so, I would simply assume it is power limited on purpose in order to not discourage users from buying batteries.

Lugging a car battery around all day wouldn't be much fun. Nor would the 4 or 2AWG wires be light.
I don't know if it was changed, but the Ridgid R86011 does not advertise 1,100 Ft-lbs when checking today. "485 ft./lbs. of torque in forward and 620 ft./lbs. of torque in reverse for heavy-duty applications."

I'm guessing that the reason why not all manufacturers offer a 110vac adapter is that they're afraid it'll reduce their battery sales.
That's why I have increased my Metabo HPT 36V line
Cost of use is much less than my red and teal tools due to having to buy and charge up as many batteries in my longer run time tools
So, I looked through all of the videos released after this one and haven't seen the tool truck high torque's reviewed yet. Is it still coming?

The AC wall adapter is an interesting idea, but we probably should not be surprised that the tool loses a small amount of performance when using it. Even if the power supply could deliver a steady 1,500 watts DC, there will be electrical losses in the DC cable between the power supply and the tool. I could not find any specs for the DC cable, but I will take a few guesses. Assuming 12 ft, 12AWG, & 40A @ 36v, the voltage drop (at full load) would be about 5%. This correlates with the dyno test well. This is not a criticism. I like the idea. I wish the tool system that I used offered this option.
And what about the battery when 75% charged? Or 50% charged?
You don't have a freshly charged battery all day. But the DC supply would be constant all day.
The channel tests max performance, but the 50th bolt you remove is just as important the 1st.
I look forward to the results of future tests showing performance aftermath foxes 10second runs instead of just one run on a fresh battery.

I was hoping this would be a direct plugin scheme, not through an adapter so it would get 110 volts. That would have been interesting.
Have to convert the AC to DC at some point, or you'd need 2 different motors.
That 120 volt adapter result surprises me. We've seen in other tests that the higher Ah batteries deliver higher performance, up to a point, and jumping from a battery that can deliver upwards of 35A to an adapter that can deliver 55A (2,000 watt at 36 volt DC) should (to my mind) result in a higher performance.
Maybe the battery delivers a higher voltage than the adapter? Or maybe the adapter doesn't actually deliver 36 volt?
Could just be that their ac to dc converter just has a lower max current than a freshly charged battery. If that converter on the cable or the one that connects to the tool has a label, it'd be very interesting to see max power/amperage output!
Two things, Inverters are not 100% efficient, you’re losing some of the input power as heat. Also, the adapter really only has 1500W to play with due to regulations on how much power something can draw on a given receptical/circuit (which is why most corded tools don’t go above 15A).

In the EU we run 230 V/10A on regular plugs, giving us access to 2,000 watt devices.
@@MrMartinSchou Yeah, it's stupid as hell, especially when 20A circuits for outlets has become standard here, with 120v30A in industrial/commercial being an option.
Then we still have the option to jump to 240V20A and go up. But no, reluctance to move from the 15A rated recepticals holds us back.
