This was such a helpful video! I found a pair of these on my local Craigslist and I was nervous about having to do a lot of restoration work, but you made it look very doable. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@sirvancelot8766 When you remounted the baffle in the older model, did you use any kind of sealant between the baffle and the frame or did you just screw it straight in? It seems like it would be much easier to access the electronics by removing the baffle vs. trying to solder through the hole in the back.
Yes its a sealant for these cloth surrounds, before they used foam. Over time, they dry out, and allow air through. You want to stop that from happening. One guy makes it, search "VINTAGE-AR PARTS AND SERVICE" and find his ebay store. The part is called "ACOUSTIC RESEARCH SPEAKER CLOTH SURROUND WOOFER SEALANT KIT, ALSO KLH", not sure why all caps.

Anytime! Anyone can do it, even if you haven't soldered before, it's easy enough to learn. The speakers are worth the work.

@@everythingisjustdirt I used some mortite rope caulk after cleaning the old material off at 15:11, I guess I never showed it, sorry.
Hi! your channel is so interesting! What product did you apply on the
speaker suspension, a yellow liquid that you applied with a brush? Thanks!

@@sirvancelot8766 thanks for your answer and your time!
When you closed the speakers up did you replace the poly / fiber fill stuffing that was inside?
Replace as in re-place it back inside? Or discard the old and get new? I just re-used what was there, but I did put it back before closing it up.
Thanks! Yeah, the question was if you discarded the original and put in new polyfill.
I’ll just reuse what’s in there, thanks again!
What would it sound like with Mundorf Capacitors?
I'm not sure, not familiar
