I think you have to put that grease back with new after cleaning otherwise I think the tonearm will bind up at times in fact I think thats why my tonearm binds up do to dry old grease, the tone arm will stick at a certain point on the record and cause the record to skip.
Me too I like to learn more so I can service my cherished Micromatic turntables. I have a top of their line MX Series Model 1220 with a Sure M75 cartridge with conical stylus that can be upgraded to an Elipitical stylus with the same cartridge.
