Ya know, I come back to this video every few months, because I just love to hear you go on about this knife, lol. But seriously, it's all true and ya did such a great job of doing it. The added bloopers in the end is icing on the cake. Be well. Cheers!
I like your reviews a lot. I like how you now added the length, weight, size and stores you can find it at. You should include that in every future review.
Bravo! Great job on reviewing this fabulous split backspring whittler by GEC. I collect traditional pocket knives like a fiend, from old antique knives all the way to the newest offerings by GEC, and I can honestly say that nobody does it any better than Bill Howard & his personally trained staff of folks who can by all rights be labeled as "Master Artisans". I love this pattern so much, that I now own 7 different Grinling whittlers, 5 of the #38 Farmer Jacks and 4 of the Willamette half-whittlers. These knives are not only great users, but a good investment for the collector. Congrats on owning one yourself. It's always a pleasure to see someone make a great video review of fine traditional knives. I truly enjoyed it. Thank you!
I still own all except for selling my Farmer in jigged cherry wood ( the least of all my Farmer's ) and also sold only 1 Grinling: a Northfield in cherry red peachseed jigged bone, I think is what it's called. The red is so dark, it almost looks black from a distance, except towards all 4 bolsters, where the pretty red shows up. Still have all of my other Farmers & Grinlings. @@popsforgeblacksmithing4793
If you're like me your knife is a multi-tool that serves every purpose you can imagine including the occasional steak knife or screw driver. Great review, that's a beautiful knife.
Love the bloopers man! Also, great review on the knife. Truly a masterpiece of fine traditional American craftsmanship. Can't wait to get one for myself. Take care! -Jim
Keep rocking the Seahawks gear, love that. Go Hawks. And Beatles in the background is good, but you need some Hendrix and Zeppeling, maybe Floyd. How about having them drone in the background? Rock on.
This was an interesting review and has me interested in picking up a folding knife! I carry a Benchmade Mini-Barrage which i find incredibly handy because of it's axis-assist one hand operation. It definitely has more of a 'tactical' form though and I quite like the look of these traditional folding knives. I was wondering what you typically use each of the three blades for? I feel like I would only ever use the primary blade. Also, you should do a video on how to hone/sharpen a pocket knife!
Dorian Resener - On this latest knife, the main blade definitely gets the most use, but the pen blade makes a great backup which is always razor sharp (because of it's limited use) and the sheep's foot blade is great at box-cutter type tasks. If I were actually using it as a "whittler," the main blade would be for the rough whittling and the secondary blades for fine detail work.
Brilliant video, Bradley! By the way, I just picked up yet another one of these...though this is a "variant" in the Northwoods Knives...for Knives Ship Free. This is the Willamette Whittler...and it has a wharncliffe main blade. SWEET. Totally enjoyed the outtakes at the end of the video. Hilarious. Anybody trying to make videos has these experiences. The guy's who has the most entertaining outtakes is YankeeMarshal. Whereas your reactions to the flubs are pretty controlled, he really grinds his teeth each time.
For carbon steel utility knives - rub the blades with a silicone gun & reel cloth: no oily residue or grease to coat hands and clothes. Prevents rust and is awesomely convenient/non-messy....
Oh Bradley...i really want to see an entire bloopers video...maybe for a milestone in your channel? Many times people like to prize and talk just about the quality/carbon grade steel of a blade in a knife...less about the construction quality of the knife itself...i really appreciate your reviews for this too...AND I LOVE THIS INTRO SONG! And btw...my avatar is here just to pursue and remind you that we, the bikers, are out there...just waiting for your next ciak!!! :D:D:D:D:D Have a nice day Bradley, and wish you and your channel all the best...even if i think you don't need it for what i can see... :)
hi bro, excellent review as usual, well done! i see that you like blades like me, now I'm getting interested in straight razors especially in a brand called dovo. take a look at them they might interest you too. Clive
+xV13TCONGx - Some of their patterns sell out pretty quickly. There's always the chance that they'll do another production run though, so I wouldn't give up.
Thank you for the tips on pipes. Funny how many folks do pens, knives and pipes, isn't it? Actually, they are mutually supporting technology, at least historically. Do you use and collect classic cameras or cars? Just great production, sir! From many takes, a few keepers.
James Jacocks - They do all seem to share a similar aesthetic don't they? I used to be into old Polaroid cameras, but the film became too hard to find. USUALLY it doesn't take me so many attempts to record a review.
Stuff&Things I was aprehensive about getting an acrylic one since all of my other GEC's are natural materials but I'm very pleased with it. Now I just need to buy an ebony and a stag, I'm sorry honey, the GEC bill needs paid.
What a amount of work you need for getting these videos to run... I never thought that it is so hard recording speach properly. "I need coffee.." - I know that from programming... :D
"Old Polaroids"- The Impossible Project now makes film for the SX70-the jack knife of Polaroids. Not a real oldie, I admit. Still is amazing technology, I feel.
What is going on here you stated in another video, if you started talking about EDC, that your channel was quickly going down hill. LoL i had to just tease you on that, great videos keep them coming Thanks.
As far as I know , Yes , many street fights do take place and always had those pocket knives connected to it , they're very popular in the Egyptian street culture. But about you , What's your main use of this gadget?
I don't think anyone would want to use this knife in a fight. The blades don't lock open, so if you wanted to stab someone it would probably just close on your fingers. I just use it for whenever I need to cut something!
I see , The ones used here are more sharp bladed and made particularly in that . I guess you won't have a problem with those pocket knives here unless you decide to act smart and use them in a fight where an uneducated policeman happen to be around :D
@@stuffandthingsyoutube if you feel like selling it or any other gecs I've been hunting for a grinling for a long time! I'd be happy to buy it from you immediately

That was fantastic , please the new norm should be putting the bloopers on the end that was great!

lion jr - I'll definitely try to include stats where applicable. Thanks for watching!
This video is exactly why your channel is one of the few I subscribe to. Bradley you are a very interesting Gentleman. Thanks for the free content.
GoodGriff - I appreciate that very much. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the out takes. Entertaining!! I also like GEC knives. Keep up the good work!! Until next time.
Scott Rutan Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.

Tank Locked - I've definitely used past knives as screwdrivers. I'm TRYING to keep this one a little more pristine!
wjw708 - Fortunately, there usually aren't enough bloopers to post when I record a video. This just happened to be a special case. Glad you liked it!
Enjoyed the outtakes.

This is a great knife pattern ..Thanks for sharing:)

Great review and an awesome knife! Queen still makes a split back whittler, it's the #48 pattern.

I'm not into knives at all (I follow you for the fountain pen related stuff - or would that be things?) but I really enjoyed those outtakes!
Susan White - I'm glad you enjoyed them! Motorcycles are the bane of my existence.

you should get a block of balsa or other soft wood and carve something. you will enjoy the true purpose of the whittler! ...he said soft wood!
+BEAR BEAR - I have! I think I need a little more practice though.
If the Northfield is a brute and the grinning widdler is a gentleman than the buck 110 is a lumberjack wearing a suit.

That's it! I'm selling my custom mic strider RC knife I carried in Iraq and getting this knife. Time to get civilized I guess.
robfrom504 - Ha! Why not carry both? I will say - it seems like non-knife people are far less intimidated by a traditional folder.
Are you going to force patina the blade like you did on your case or are you going to do it the old fashioned way?
No. I've just been letting it patina naturally.
