Excellent! Can’t wait. Can you do one on mixing vocal to a two track since that’s extremely common these days. Most of my clients come to my studio with instrumentals that they downloaded from UA-cam. I have a few methods that I use to achieve a good sound, but it would be nice to see what approach a professional like you would take.
wow thank you, I've been studying music production for just under a year and this is the best explanation of reverb I have found so far, now to fix my crappy mixes 😅😅
So you're a jazz guy? Bravo, that's a tough dept. How do you train your ear to better catch all the subtleties?? I can tell the difference in the on/offs examples in the video, but in my projects I'm not so sure, even less with the sidechain maneuver. How to decide which reverb is best for every part? Thanks a lot. GREAAAAT VIDEOO!!
Time, practice, study and patience. There is no "always use this reverb or compressor for that". The more you do it, the better you ear will develop. There are also training programs for engineers. But what I suggest, is that you watch my video on What is Sound, and I explain 21 audio terms. It's not the definition that matters, but it's understanding how sound breaks down, and how it develops. When you understand that a little better, your ear will know what to look for, because you'll understand the science behind it. EVERY good famous engineer know all that stuff like drinking water. Here's the link. It's my favorite video. ua-cam.com/video/13-AmdRDipg/v-deo.html Let me know how it goes. Thanks, Arty
Go over the top with your settings to A B things. This way you’ll hear the effects easier. Then back it all off to a point where it’s less noticeable. Especially with the side chain thing. Everything should be subtle. The goal being to make everything clear but blended. Think about time and space and frequencies and where each thing can have its place. It’s the little things that add up.
Thanks Jason. I really appreciate the comment! Just uploaded a new video on producing vocals. Check it out if you have a chance. ua-cam.com/video/_SPOQYXF8aU/v-deo.html 👍-Arty
Thank you for this great video!! I have a question - what is the difference between choosing "Mono" versus "Mono --> Stereo" when you're setting up your reverb?
Mono to mono, will give you a mono reverb, meaning there is no 'width' in the stereo field. This is useful when you want to isolate a sound, let's say a percussion instrument, and you want it panned at about 3 o'clock. If you pan the mono reverb at 3 oclock as well, you can more easily pinpoint the sound within the mix, but it can still be in the 'room' you set up for the reverb. Mono to Stereo is more commonly used, because if you send a mono vocal to the reverb, you want the width, which also helps with the perception of depth. Hope this helps :)
SO helpful!!!!! Just tried to download the preset for the vocal 480L and was unable. Can someone walk me through it ? Is it still available via the link in the description?
👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻 Very good quality and content, although I don‘t understand everything ( e. g. the thing with the Lexicon reverb: is that a reverb plugin that I have to buy?) as a beginner in both Logic and mixing. I have to put together hundreds of puzzle pieces (that‘s UA-cam videos) to forge ahead as there is nobody far around to show me ... nevertheless my goal is to release a first single in the second half of this year, but as far as mixing is concerned, I‘m still far away from this goal ... I think I have to listen to this video again and again to fully understand it as a German speaking new subscriber to this channel.

Going live in a few weeks, but if you're interested in joining, I'll send you an invite. (Please give us your facebook profile name) I think this can be great to really accelerate your learning. Thanks. -Arty
Hey man great video🔥🔥🔥. shouldnt we set the wet to 100% when using reverb on an aux track, the space designer was set to -10... When using the compressor for the side chaining shouldn’t we switch off auto gain?? . Again great video looking forward to hearing the presets. 🔥🔥
Hi Dee. Yeah, you could. Good points, but there's no hard rules. I do and I don't. :) Thanks for the comment! Join our Facebook group if you can. We're doing weekly assignments and livestreams, etc. facebook.com/groups/musicproductionacademy Hope to see ya there.
I usually keep the aux track fader at zero, and use the send for the amount of reverb I want. But sometimes I need to hit the reverb a little harder, so then I'll bring down the aux return. Really depends on the situation.
great video! i have a techno track with no vocals but many instruments, do you recommend any particular instruments i can use reverb with instead of vocals?
It's all about layers and what's in front of what. So pads, strings, atmospheric stuff usually sits way back in the mix, so bigger reverbs on those. But everything depends on everything else, so it's really program specific, and individual taste. Just keep trying stuff until it makes you feel good and you go "yeah, that's the one" :)
Great Video! I learned a lot! Question: Do you know if there are any techniques to fundamentally change the sound of a voice, in a very basic sense? eg. a fundamental change like, change from Madonna to Mark Knoffler?
You can change the tone slightly by eq, and different mic modelling plugins. You can change throat length and making someone sound more or less male or female by changing formants using autotune or similar. but as of right now I don't know anything that can actually change the voice sound though I hear they are working on some artificial intelligence that can do that. And I have no doubt we'll see it in the future. Anyone else out there know any more about it? Please comment and share with us👍 Thanks for your comment. --Arty
@@SkyeLabMusicGroup Many Thanks!! Perhaps there might be a route to do this via : Audio(analog) -> Sample set --> MIDI --> digital sample based audio vocals? If one could get hold of a sampled set of Knoffler's voice 'notes', for example?
@@sailingchloe2330 Then you have to get lyrics too. When we first got GPS and they were stand alone units, for a while we downloaded 'fake' celebrity voices, like Eric Cartman from Southpark, who would basically scream and curse at you if you made a wrong turn! So the basics of the technology are there. Just needs a lot more development if it's going to be applied towards singing lyrics. But then the downside is you'll be able to make anyone sound like they're saying anything. Scary too! But fun. Thanks, Arty
@@SkyeLabMusicGroup Ah yes. of course, I completely missed that : / I guess it would have to be more of a text to speech conversion tool.... a higher order of sampling. Yes, I Agee with you, I could see a Neural Net being trained in this muti-dimensional model space. Just like Siri..

SkyeLab Music Group yeah i've been struggling to learn about that lol i guess there are many different ways that people like to do it. Thanks for sharing your process. Helped me get more insight. Appreciate it! Keep those quality videos coming bro 👍👍
Hey thanks for the great video, very helpful indeed. This is me liking, subscribing and commenting - where are the presets for the reverb? I've read the description thrice and I think I've gone blind hahahah
If I have a 4-beat audio "chunk" on a channel and I only want to apply an effect (like a reverb) on the LAST BEAT/HIT within this audio piece, can I not just use the scissors to cut that last beat/hit off from the audio piece, and then select this last cut-off piece, right-click on it, apply selection based processing, and add a reverb? (while keeping that last cut-off piece exactly where it was to begin with, and no hassle with creating busses etc etc to keep everything simple + easy?). Wouldn't that work just the same as any other method?
I’ve seen a trick using the same reverb in 2 auxes. But 1 is just early, and the other is just late. This allows for different amounts of the instrument to be sent to early and late, handy in drums… …thoughts/recommendations on that??
@@SkyeLabMusicGroup yeah. I mean I wouldn’t have described it as that but if sending a touch more pre delay to the clap than the hat (example) or a background keys vs a foreground synth lead would change the position in your opinion, then yeah! It’s not DIFFERENT pre delays. Just different amounts sent to that pre delay aux by channel. That?
Hi Nayte. When you download Logic, all the plugins for all the effects should download with it. But you can go to the menu on top, select LOGIC (far left) and scroll down until you see Sound Library, reinstall Sound Library, or Update Sound library. Let us know if that works :)
Okay, many people have asked, but because of you my dear Deepak, I now did it! Here is the link. drive.google.com/file/d/1znFrkILzG3CYxcX5PXk4WNjLh9FRnXsH/view?usp=sharing There are about 5 presets for each of the 2 Logic reverbs. Please let me know if the download and all works fine. Thanks dude! -Arty
yes, you need to download essential content. You are missing the Impulse Response files, that's why the reverbs might be missing the factory presets. Go to Logic Pro X > Sound Library > Download Essential Sounds (Or download all available sounds if your have enough space)

Thanks for you comments! Yeah, my bad. I have to figure out where to upload it. But I'll let you know when I do.
@@SkyeLabMusicGroup did you manage to do that??? many thanks. :)
Best Best Best Best...
Man this tutorial was gold. But now the I have an earworm with that song, may I know which song it is?
If I have a 4-beat audio "chunk" on a channel and I only want to apply an effect (like a reverb) on the LAST BEAT/HIT within this audio piece, can I not just use the scissors to cut that last beat/hit off from the audio piece, and then select this last cut-off piece, right-click on it, apply selection based processing, and add a reverb? (while keeping that last cut-off piece exactly where it was to begin with, and no hassle with creating busses etc etc to keep everything simple + easy?). Wouldn't that work just the same as any other method?
Question that side gain compression to the bvg is the the Bgv aux you side to the compressor???
thanks!!!
You're welcome! Check out the rest of our channel if you have a chance. Cheers, Arty
I’ve seen a trick using the same reverb in 2 auxes. But 1 is just early, and the other is just late. This allows for different amounts of the instrument to be sent to early and late, handy in drums…
…thoughts/recommendations on that??
Actually, brilliant! The same space, but it changes the position in the room. Using predelays?
@@SkyeLabMusicGroup yeah. I mean I wouldn’t have described it as that but if sending a touch more pre delay to the clap than the hat (example) or a background keys vs a foreground synth lead would change the position in your opinion, then yeah! It’s not DIFFERENT pre delays. Just different amounts sent to that pre delay aux by channel.
That?
And actually the same Chromaverb settings. Just one aux is 100% pre, and the other aux is 100% late 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hello thank you my friend ! But I don't have any plugins in the space designer.. What can I do to have them ?
Hi Nayte. When you download Logic, all the plugins for all the effects should download with it. But you can go to the menu on top, select LOGIC (far left) and scroll down until you see Sound Library, reinstall Sound Library, or Update Sound library. Let us know if that works :)
SkyeLab Music Group thanks for the fast answer ! I will tell you! Keep it up!
WOWWWWWWWWW THANKS I LOVED ME ENCANTO ESTE VIDEO YA ME SUSCRIBO DE UNA. EXELENTE CLASE
Gracias Harold. Just posted a new video last week on Background Vocals and we have more coming. Thanks for subscribing!
Sir u can uplaod ur prestes on a google drive through zip folder we can get it from there.. Eagearly waiting for presets.
-Arty
@@SkyeLabMusicGroup they r working great sir. Thankyou
I don’t have all of those options when i click on the factory default drop down menu. Is there something i needed to download?
yes, you need to download essential content. You are missing the Impulse Response files, that's why the reverbs might be missing the factory presets. Go to Logic Pro X > Sound Library > Download Essential Sounds (Or download all available sounds if your have enough space)
