- My favorite doomed romance from one of my all time favorite movies. I've watched it over and over since I was a kid and it breaks my heart every time.

The later half of the video is a piano cover of The Night We Met by Lord Huron that I laid the original song's isolated vocals over. I'm sorry to say I've had this piano track for years and it was unlabeled so I'm not 100% sure where it came from, but after a little digging I think it might be the version performed & recorded by Sam Yung. Uncas and Alice died for each other. A love so beautiful.
The silent love between Uncas and Alice is the most beautiful love story ever. No words need to be spoken. It's in the way they look at each other and how they are always looking for each other. Their silent love was so strong that Uncas was willing to sacrifice his life while trying to save her. Her love for Uncas was equally as strong as she followed him in death, only to be with him for eternity. I have watched Last of the Mohicans countless times and my heart breaks everytime I watch it because of Uncas and Alice.❤😢

I thought he was actually lowering his knife and motioning her to come towards him that he was not going to kill her and she chose to die anyway instead of be in servitude to a man with such an evil heart.

When Alice looked at the abyss and looked back at Magua, you see him swallowing his saliva twice. He knew she was going to go to her Uncas.

I think the beauty of the love that is portrayed between Alice and Uncas is that it is so subtle, so short, but yet SOOOO sweet. With one glance and one encounter, their life was never the same again.

Seriously I feel so seen and heard right now. It's like you took something I've always wanted that I didn't know i wanted until you made it real.
I'm imagining a time in which there was no electricity, no automobile, no vaccine, no telephone, no television, no camera, no iPhone, no internet, and no social media. On top of that, life expectancies were less than half of what they are now with most people dying before turning 40.
How did love and attraction really come into being in such times?
Well, it happened in a split second with no more than a single glance and it was far purer than anything we can imagine finding today. Hearts would flutter in an instant and nothing would ever be the same again.

I loved Uncas and Alice's chemistry together in the film. I loved their's more than Cora and Natty's. I just wanted to see more of Alice and Uncas. I cried when Uncas died trying to save Alice and then when she jumped that was intense. They shall be together even in death.

Not only is lotm one of my favourite movies and Alice and uncas my favourite couple......but this song is one of my favourites aswell ❤
I'm going to say something that exposes my own family. The reason why the focus is on Cora and Hawkeye is because they are both Caucasian. Alice and Uncas is the more powerful story, but attitudes regarding love and race back when the book was written were not in favor of representing truth. Love is not restricted by those boundaries. My grandfather's grandparents were a Cree man and and a Swedish immigrant to Canada. Their love story was my family's great epic love. I'm not going to go into everything online for strangers, but pairings like theirs were more commonplace than we are often led to believe.

I remember trying to figure out if her body fell on his when she jumped. I replayed it over and over becuz it was such a quick shot. This silent and what would have been considered, back then as a forbidden love, was a big reason I loved this movie.
Uncas was such a pure protector figure and Alice was a naive innocent, looking for her protector. When he died, her last hope was gone. The trauma was too much. The future she saw horrified her, as she knew the type of life she had to look forward to, especially knowing her protector was gone… it was too much.
I’m not sure what was running thru Magua mind at the time, but for some reason it looked to have confused him. I think the idea of ending one’s life for another never occurred to him as logical, yet he would kill 1,000s, if he could, to avenge his lost loved ones. Although when he turned to leave, I’m sure he dismissed the idea of any regret over her.. he was hardened by that time. He might have even wondered why she would do it…as most would do anything to survive. Maybe he was even surprised at the bond that occurred. I’m sure any person at that time in history would have wondered at the bond since it was almost completely unheard of. Many white men had Native women, but the opposite was almost nonexistent except by force. By the way in the book it was Cora and Cora had West Indies blood. This made it more acceptable to the readers at that time.
The facial expressions of the actors say it all. No big names, yet they acted so well. If it was Tom Cruise or some big name, we'd have got a wooden look for every scene. The look on Alice's face when she realises Magua has already fatally wounded Uncas with the first knife cut across his torso and Uncas also realising it and immediately seeking out Alice's eyes (not Magua) and how they both knew that this was the unexpected end, is heart-wrenching. Magua was used and hardened to killing and be killed but giving up one's life for another took him by surprise, seeing how he lowers his knife and face changes to momentary regret, as he beckons to Alice to step away from the edge. Yet he did not love her (or anybody) so the moment she was gone, he put her out of his mind and went on. Tragic times, beautiful landscape, fierce emotions... love and hate/fear in their eternal battle.
Just wish that it would play on Netflix!

Awh well thank you so much for watching and I'm glad you liked it. It's a great movie and you should check it out if you get the chance. There are multiple versions of it though, and if you can't find the theatrical cut (which is rare) I suggest watching the Director’s Definitive Cut and *not* the Director's Expanded Edition. Also just a heads up, Uncas and Alice aren't actually the main love story in the film- their older siblings are- but I, like many people, always found their story the most moving. Hence the video. ;)

@@federicamartino1490 nowhere to be found because Michael Mann did not put that scene in to the movie. The focus was Hawkeye's and Cora's romance, not Alice and Uncas.
When I've seen the movie before, I always thought he looked out for her as a helpless feminine in their party. It wasn't until I read that in the original book that the love affair was theirs primarily, and that the director focused it on Hawkeye and Cora instead. In these clips you can see Uncas always caring for her, and she is always watching for him. Well done.
I will never forgive the director for that cut! 😭😭😭

Even discounting the fact that this is a movie and this scene is purposely made to be cinematic, in times of immense danger, making such judgment calls is VERY DIFFICULT. Sometimes, people have to seize the opportunity and go right for the kill while risking it all.
Even assuming that these scenes are real, it would be very hard for Uncas to tell how far up they would have taken Alice to the point that he would no longer be able to reach them.
Also, the Huron Chief, Duncan, and Magwa all spoke in French regarding what would happen to Alice. It is fair to say the neither Uncas nor Alice know that she is being taken to become Magwa's wife. Perhaps Uncas is afraid that she is just being taken elsewhere to be killed. Therefore, as far as he is concerned, time is of the essence and he has to act quickly in order to even have a shot at saving her.
I agree. He should have gone up with the others and not by himself- they caught up anyway

yes, Cora was more strong and "lovable" for a Mohican than the "fade" Alice (wich was in love with the white officer)
