@@imbalancedstatus8824 Too bad, so sad. As a business owner, every part of my training regiment is to make my people fully aware that every move they make can lead to a lawsuit and could also drag them personally into the middle of it. Especially, with what I do for a living.
So basically they knew he wasn't a suspect but because he didn't "obey" them they got butt hurt. And yeah I would be suing the hotel for disclosing my personal information. I do believe that would be a violation under the privacy act. I am not a lawyer but that is what I would think.
They would’ve needed a warrant for hotel to give them his information. That was supreme gross negligence on their part. I’d sue the hotel and the clerk.
@Aluzky he didn't match the description and he has rights regardless of the cops suspicion. They don't even know the freaking law! Not his fault whatsoever. He had no duty to help them with their job!!!
@Aluzky Completely wrong. Plenty of people who have absolutely no crimes on their record refuse to hand over their ID without justification. Cops can and will lie to gain compliance or an edge over someone or to intimidate etc etc etc
@Aluzky Wrong ignoramus, the exercise of a right cannot be suspicious..... NO OBLIGATION to identify unless lawfully arrested, Brown v Texas, 4th and 5th and state law. AND IF LAWFULLY ARRESTED, the RIGHT to REMAIN SILENT INVOKES..... NO OBLIGATION to answer questions per: Watts v. Indiana, 338 U.S. 49 (1949), was a United States Supreme Court case in which Justice Robert Jackson famously opined, "To bring in a lawyer means a real peril to solution of the crime because, under our adversary system, he deems that his sole duty is to protect his client-guilty or innocent-and that, in such a capacity, he owes no duty whatever to help society solve its crime problem. Under this conception of criminal procedure, any lawyer worth his salt will tell the suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to police under any circumstances." In this case, a defendant was subjected to rigorous interrogation methods, including being forced to sleep on the floor, resulting in a confession to having committed murder. The Supreme Court ruled that the confession was involuntary and reversed his conviction. Terry v Ohio 392 U.S. 1 "Of course, the person stopped is not obliged to answer, answers may not be compelled and refusal to answer furnishes no basis for an arrest, although it may alert the officer to the need for continued observation." “The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that refusal to answer law enforcement questions cannot form the basis of reasonable suspicion. See Florida v. Bostick, 501 U.S. 429, 437, 111 S. Ct. 2382, 115 L.Ed.2d 389 (1991) ("We have consistently held that a refusal to cooperate, without more, does not furnish the minimal level of objective justification needed for a detention or seizure.") - U.S. v. Santos 403 F.3d 1120 (2005).
Godspeed, Aaron. Thank you for standing up for our safety as a marine, and for our rights as a citizen. I hope you get handsomely compensated for the violation you were subjected to.
The fact that his friends left him hanging. They gave his name and drove off. Some friends. This whole situation is a mess from the police incompetence to the hotel breaking privacy laws.
I can understand them giving away his name not knowing he was maintaining his rights, but I can't understand them driving off and leaving him to his fate. They should have stayed and be witnesses in case something bad went down.
Friends and girlfriends that give up your information knowing that you are not providing it need to be cut out of your life before they do the Chris Rock skit of "He's got weed! He's got weed!" and get you locked up.

I'm sure they would say something along the lines of "citizens don't understand the law well enough." Yet as citizens we HAVE to know ALL of the laws hence, ignorance is no excuse to the law. This literally means all citizens are expected to have a law degree and fully understand the laws and the interpretations from the supreme court as to what the laws mean. Good luck not committing a crime in america if some pig says you did
I love how the evidence proves he used his blinker, etc. It literally makes their reports so suspicious about how inaccurate they are and that they are probably done with malicious intent instead of done with honesty. Honestly, having a dash cam especially really helps so much.

TURN SIGNAL CAPER, CATCH COPS... Police can not serve both sides of the cion. To block intersection traffic. but then claim erratic behavior of motorist tries to leave same such area. Law states, to clear your vehicle within 500 feet of emergency vehicles. to not hamper area or arm to yourself. these hillbilly cops, feel using their body language will work to intimate others/unknowns. The hotel guest has out-of-town cops, and the FBI, traveling to stay there, and no one needs to know who this person is. or to hurt his investigation if he is an undercover cop, across airwaves. A loss of months' pay is not enough, but 6 months will make them never forget...
And according to the cops, it was suspicious he turned around and drove away, when you clearly see the street in front of him blocked off. Where the hell was he suppose to go??
Im so glad this man stood up for himself!! This department has been doing as they please and clearly needed the attention they are now getting!! They need to learn WE HAVE RIGHTS!!
I've worked at a hotel for over 20 years and I'm sure I'd lose my job if i handed over a guests personal information to anyone! Why is that hotel taking a photocopy of the man's license in the first place??
They purposely held him back BECAUSE he defied their repeated unlawful demand for ID. These are some unAmerican non-cop tyrants here. That hotel needs to fire the woman who just turned over personal info without a warrant and needs to train all their employees. Good job hanging in there my fellow Vet. May abundance fill your world.
Want to bet they are the same guys screaming about their rights when it came to mask, guns, etc. Talking about standing up to tyranny and whatever. Its always MY rights with these fucks and never everyones rights.
It's unfortunately not illegal as the supreme court ruled that police don't need a warrant to gather information from a private company . The ruling was from the 70s when the police got a man's phone records from a phone company
YOU MUST SUE HOTEL, for 2 reasons, already stated. 1. police intimidate young new employees to provide it. OR, some snowflake karen felt she was doing her part to help catch a Blackman. I am positive, the cop told the desk clerk, we have a Blackman stopped outside which could be him, he made a U-turn. I-hope-to-God- his attorney reads this
The fact that whenever a person shows law enforcement misconduct, misused, negligence, straight out abuse, or fatality of an innocent person on film, video, internet, etc. is majority of the time down played and/or given minimum punishment if ever the law enforcement personal is brought in front of the judicial system compared to any civilian involved in the same situation appearing before a judge in various courts across the u.s.a. (that's one of the main problems within the judicial system and law enforcement!)
Thank you so much! They ARE over-hired!! theyres too many of them and statistically crime is down and they have too much time on their hands so they harass and ask for unnecessary back up for minor traffic infractions. Not to mention the abuse and brutality and corruption. And finally for offenses and major errors most likely due to the short training period for cadets with low IQs cases are reviewed by their own dept and dismissed. And qualified immunity needs to be completely abolished! The entire judicial system is a complete disgrace and an abomination! It needs immense improvement! An overhaul! But politically this country is changing over from a democracy to a tyrannical dictatorship that will employ a militaristic police force anyway so it's par for the course. Sad state of affairs for all Americans! It's so disgusting!

Wow, law enforcement officials who understand neither the laws they're entrusted to enforce, nor how to interact with the people they swore to protect & to serve. The future looks bleak!
Us veterans know what actual authority and leadership are, as we are taught that stuff from boot camp throughout our careers so that one day we can take the mantle of leadership on ourselves. Marines even more so.
I have so many grievances with how this country's law enforcement handles things and the way they're basically allowed to do as they please and our tax dollars pay for all the buffoonery, it's honestly disgraceful.
This country is a police state right now, they think that they can just do what they want.We have such stupid cops in this country it's ridiculous, they just make it up as they go.

I try to be objective bc I think it is important we don't just jump onto anything just bc. So far I'm halfway into the video. I think it's a 50/50. I do think they had RAS in the beginning to ID him he was quickly in and out of the travel lodge, the u-turn(legal or not) and sitting parked in the gas station is just suspicious in this instance. 2nd part I have had experience with and where most encounters go awry once they have had verified the information and they know it's not him. The encounter should end then but they get butt hurt and won't stop the harrassment. I agree with both sides till the end and then the cops lose however about halfway the guy should have identified and I'm a big don't ID guy.
It seems to be how most of these videos go.. usually with the cops saying “once you give me your info you’ll be on your way, I don’t see why you’re making it a big deal.” So what exactly is my ID going to tell you? Because it appears to me that there’s a very real risk that information could be attached to a crime or incident I have absolutely nothing to do with. Not only that, the information they request is important and sensitive: my full name, date of birth, address, phone number, social security number. I’d love to know the data safeguarding policies of police departments and their officers who put this sensitive info in their little notebooks. Weird how there’s tons of laws and huge fines regarding safeguarding this exact data with healthcare, financial institutions, the education system, etc yet it’s fine that someone with a few months of job training and a badge is fine to handle PII?

It’s on them to prove my GUILT. That’s how it works in America. That’s why I didn’t ID. Im a single father with children to raise. It is my belief that it is no mistake that there are more of these happenings in this line of work than any other. A very corrupt system that definitely needs to be dismantled and reworked from the ground up.
Aaron told the cops he traveled with friends and INVOLVED THEM in the cops suspection. He gave the cops TONS of information, showing them the very hotel he stays in. Even AFTER being told he's suspected of participating in a HOMICIDE!!!!
Kudos to this guy for standing up for his rights. Always record police interaction and sue for monetary damages when they violate your rights. Under no circumstances should you let them off and think your complaint won't matter.
Eh...to a cop? Good luck winning that case against them. No jury would ever say it's up to a private citizen who works for a corporation, to disobey cops and put themselves at risk.
The teenager working the desk definitely doesn't know that the cops need a warrant to get that info and they'll just be thrown under the bus by the hotel company.
You can assert your 5th amendment right, but always follow up with "I only speak to police with an attorney present." If they continue to harass you keep repeating you want your lawyer present, most of the time it shuts them down. It is cop KRYPTONITE.
Only on TV when you 'lawyer up' do they stop questioning you! Immediately after telling them that you don't answer questions, the next Q is "Why don't you answer questions?"
As usual they investigated themselves and found they did no wrongdoing. What an absolute joke. This whole department needs to be cleaned out and sanitized. I hope Aaron takes them to the cleaners. Just absolutely disgraceful. SMH
Especially nowadays where most recruits fail psych screenings and still get hired. Also, a VAST majority of them are military dropouts who couldn’t cut it in any actual profession after high school.
So sick of cops abusing and breaking the law whenever they feel like it and internal affairs saying that they did not violate or break any laws when it is blatantly clear they have. They need to be investigated by independent bodies from the police and to remove qualified immunity from cops who have knowingly broken the law.
It's never going to happen as long as you have a crazed right winged SC made up of white supremacist with the biggest one being black. The Republicans want to see minorities harassed and murdered by the cops even more and the Democrats are the same just less blatant about it. Until cops start being routinely killed when the deliberately violate people's rights and assault them and they always end up on the wrong end of a law suit it will never stop.
If this is how these thugs behave on camera and then make up stories and lie so blatantly. Just imagine what they have been doing to black people for the last 10p years while white Americans pretended that black people were all lying.
They have immunity to murder people in this country and get away with it but when they take their last breath that's when God will send them to hell forever God bless
If you don’t exercise your rights you will lose them! Great work by the guy in the video persistence and patience are your greatest ally in these situations! Keep up the great work Lackluster
I mean, not really. The video even says at the end that the police are not legally required to explain what reasonable suspicion of a crime they have. In this case they didn't have one, so dude should win. But he didn't know that. If the police had information or suspicion they didn't tell you about, you could easily go to jail for doing this. There are circumstances where you don't have to show your ID, but you can't ever know if you're in such a situation, so you're gambling. If you're going to do it, don't act like this guy. Stay calm, and invoke your 5th amendment rights. Don't tell the cops to STFU. That's ignorant. If a cop stops you walking on the side of the road, and you don't show you're ID, they could arrest you, and if they had reasonable suspicion that you didn't know about, you could be breaking the law, not flexing your rights. The organized border patrol ID stops are probably about the only time you'll really know they don't have reasonable suspicion.
6th Amendment is where it is at. Forget having to “invoke your 5th amendment rights”. Just tell the police that you are willing to answer there questions only with legal counsel present. U.S. (512 U.S. 453 (1994).) The Court noted that if a suspect invokes the right to counsel at any time, the police must at once stop the questioning until a lawyer is present. (A suspect can also invoke the right to remain silent-see Is post-arrest silence enough to stop police questioning?)
Good luck to everyone for helping Aaron, in the civil case against the Grand Junction police department. I hope you win big time. When the Supreme Court made the law allowing police to lie to suspects during an interrogation, the law was misinterpreted to, it was OK to lie about everything and everything including every law within a state. I believe this is a major downfall in policing, and allows for bully cops to violate citizens constitutional rights. It is a crying shame.
"we had an incident a dozen hours ago, a possibly dark vehicle with possibly a black man was involved"... this is the epitome of abuse of authority, its not "reasonable" to stop someone so long after an incident without compelling matching information, this was a classic sidewalk shakedown of cops fishing and hoping something turned up... this is everyday in america and the average person can't afford an attorney to hold them accountable to the law... "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing"...
Proven by the fact that after they knew it wasn't Aaron, they still harass him and demand ID. They know they don't have the right guy but they don't care, maybe he's got an unpaid ticket or something they can take him in on.
Yeah I get your sentiment but they said the shooting happened at 3 something and this stop (per the dash cam) happened at 5:30 something. That’s clearly not a dozen hours. No need to exaggerate to make a point when the point is already easy enough to make.
@@nickthompson1812 Nick Thompson - I get it, you thought you were going to show me up by citing numbers and thinking that would prove me wrong, problem is your numbers aren't matching the evidence, because you're not paying attention to detail, thats a problem a lot of cops have too, which is likely why they are acting this way... if you pay close attention to the evidence, you will see the BODY CAMERA timestamp is different than the citizens dash camera, you know why that is, because he's a tourist outside his time zone or never changed the timestamp for daylight savings, already you're over an hour later now making it 4 hours between your numbers... FOUR HOURS IS AN ETERNITY in scenarios like this, its no longer "reasonable" to stop someone in a generic car description to shake them down, because its NOT within a "reasonable" timeframe of the crime and area, thousands of cars have passed through this area matching that description, you don't get 4 hours to shake everyone down simply because of a generic car description in the area, you get MINUTES and thats it... which is why cops perform pretext stops on people "in the area" hours later because a judge would throw them out of the court room if they did what these cops did, and you don't seem to get that, thats the issue...
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS GUY! Using OUR rights, knowledge and not bowing down to tyrants. GREAT JOB!!! Thanks for sharing. I hope others educate themselves about our GOD GIVEN RIGHTS..
You love this guy? You watched the video? He failed to id, was told that he was suspected of homicide HOMICIDE and starts squealing like a stuck pig... "Those are my friends over there." "There’s the hotel we stayed in last night" I'm amazed he wasn't charged with the JFK assassination.
I watched the original a few weeks ago, without the bodycam footage. I thought it was unbelievable how egregious the rights violations were. But the additional information about the suspect description makes this even worse.
Once again, situations like this have greatly contributed to the fact I will no longer consider rendering assistance to any law enforcement officer for any reason...including to save their life.
Every single one of them dead is one less threat to my freedom and safety. If you get bit by a wounded snake you attempt to help, you can only blame yourself.

@Aluzky i have to be a criminal to not want to show randoms my name, date of birth, and address?
@Aluzky Wrong ignoramus, the exercise of a right cannot be suspicious.....
NO OBLIGATION to identify unless lawfully arrested, Brown v Texas, 4th and 5th and state law.
AND IF LAWFULLY ARRESTED, the RIGHT to REMAIN SILENT INVOKES.....
NO OBLIGATION to answer questions per:
Watts v. Under this conception of criminal procedure, any lawyer worth his salt will tell the suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to police under any circumstances."
In this case, a defendant was subjected to rigorous interrogation methods, including being forced to sleep on the floor, resulting in a confession to having committed murder. The Supreme Court ruled that the confession was involuntary and reversed his conviction.
Terry v Ohio 392 U.S. 1
"Of course, the person stopped is not obliged to answer, answers may not be compelled and refusal to answer furnishes no basis for an arrest, although it may alert the officer to the need for continued observation."
“The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that refusal to answer law enforcement questions cannot form the basis of reasonable suspicion.

I'm sure they would say something along the lines of "citizens don't understand the law well enough." Yet as citizens we HAVE to know ALL of the laws hence, ignorance is no excuse to the law.
Fck them, I can keep my self safe.

LL u r the best storyteller on the tube bar none, articulate, well spoken, keep up the good work.
Well said, this channel has educated so much. I never realized how clueless I was with regard to police interactions with the public before I subscribed to this channel. Thx LL!!
The problem here isn’t so much they stopped to investigate its that once they knew they were wrong their egos wouldn’t let them leave this man alone.
