  • At the Los Angeles County Men's Central Jail, a separate wing exists for gay, bisexual, and transgender inmates. Since its creation, the unit has gained a reputation as one of the safer, community-oriented units.
    The unit, known as the K6G, is home to approximately 360 GBT inmates. It was established in 1985 after the ACLU filed a lawsuit urging for the protection and prevention of assault against LGBT inmates.
    In this segment of "SoCal Connected," reporter Val Zavala tours the K6G unit and interviews GBT inmates charged with nonviolent felonies for a closer look at what happens behind bars.

      Yes. A gay cop interviews you to see where you hang out, what bars you go to, what gay establishments you visit. They ask personal sexual questions about how many men you’ve been with, are you single or taken, who are your friends. And If you even hesitate, they will know and send you right back to Gen Pop. I was lucky to get thru. I am
      Gay after all.

    This is all crap. I stayed in “Paradise City” for a month. It was absolute hell. The cops raided the dorm twice at 3:45 am. They stripped us entirely naked and made us sit in the church on the 5th floor while they demolished inmates belongings. They cornered a trans inmate, hit him and beat him bloody. Everyone was punched and I got my hair grabbed and thrown against a wall because I saw Lee Baca ordering this(this was 2010). A cop punched my nose and left it bloody. I was told if I ever mentioned who I saw they would find me and make me pay. I still have the scar on my nose to prove they broke it. Everyone returned bruised and battered. They handcuffed us to our bunk for a few hours. When breakfast was served, the new shift came in and took them off. They all asked what happened, and no one answered. In order to survive these terrible inmates(most were straight claiming to be gay to avoid being sent Gen Pop), I hooked up with a muscle bear, a Theodore Cousins. For sexual favors, he took care of me and made sure no one harmed me. On my last day there, I called my mom in tears and said they were probably going to kill me in there. As soon as I said that, they called my name and I was released. I swore never to repeat my story, but watching this garbage report with these “tv friendly canaries” lying thru their teeth is a disgrace. Notice they don’t show any of the cops in the towers in the dorm. One more thing. Every morning, the cops come in and scan your bracelet. You have to be on your bunk and lying face down, not looking at the cop. You have to tell them your ID number out loud and they scan your wristband. If you look at them, they will hit you. They deliberately spend a few extra seconds after they scan you to make sure you’re not sneaking a peek. I learned how to tho and I remember the footsteps and shiny shoes of the cops when they left. You can feel them breathing on you, daring you to tempt them. 27 scary ass days of my life. I hate Twin Towers. Paradise City is a sick
    joke.

    When I went to jail for the first time, I was told stories by other inmates about the gay unit. Most of them were negative but after watching this video I realised those guys where just envious or jealous of them. It wasn't so bad in the regular units either, but in-house politics and gang violence played a huge part there and it kinda ruined the experience for me. I got out without a problem, never joined a gang either and I haven't been back since.

      Gabby C Some guards can be cool and reward some inmates with things like make-up, even stuff that is contraband as long as the corrections officer has the permission of the one that actually makes policy, in county jail it's the lieutenant Sheriff. I know this because, my mom was able to actually get her Valium from her own Dr. But that was a while back.

      "Her"

    • @alecingram6574
      @alecingram6574 5 років тому

      @@trumpstroll7438 your mom probably got her valium because she was already legally prescribed by a licensed physician on the streets prior to her incarceration, or in some states the medical provider at the facily can prescribe it to the inmate. The officers are definetly not risking their career and there way to pay bills and provide for their family for an inmate. Rewarding inmates with special things that can be considered contraband, (aka something not already provided by the jail/prison or purchased from commissary) could get the officer themselves charged with a felony - introducing contraband into a correctional facility. Something like that is just gonna "open Pandora box" as they say since anything that costs $5 on the streets is now $100 in the jail/prison which leads to hustling, then debts, then violence and lawsuits and everything else. Just thought I'd share my knowledge with you and possibly others reading this that what you stated is more than likely not the case and what you stated that you know this from your mothers experience can sound factual and more than like that dudes sick Mohawk is more than likely done with soap or toothpaste as this is in a county jail. If that dude was filmed with that Mohawk at a prison then I'd guess it was probably done with some sort of hair gel or hair spray.

      Alexis Lemcke They have tests to determine if someone is really gay that only someone in the community knows I.e. asking them what certain gay slang key words mean and the bars they go to and etc.
      It's not special treatment this is for their health and safety Search it up being gay in Prison is ten times more harder than being straight there's been surveys done to prove this most people say they don't just get abuse from other inmates to but also the staff prison is a punishment but at the same time we don't want them to get killed, besides their offences. 9 times out of 10 aren't violent related and see usually related to drug misuse.
