The Tudors: Jonathan Rhys Meyers on Henry 8 and Love | SHOWTIME
• The Tudors: Jonathan R...
What a brilliant actor. He deserves so much more recognition. I love the fact that he knows all about the history too.
+CptSeagull Eight Shit. I completely forgot he had a drinking problem. Well, all we can do is hope I suppose. I just hope he doesn't take his talent and fortune for granted.
+CptSeagull Eight Well that sucks. Someone with that much talent shouldn't throw their lives away like that. He does seem like a bit of a party animal though. lol. I wish he was in more stuff!!
Hes ugly
I couldn´t agree more! He is such an impressive and intelligent man!
He's so hot watching his sex scenes with Anne brought my dead sex drive back to life.
He may not have had the right looks for Henry VIII, but he got the passion, the temper and just about everything else right
Henry 8th was once a young handsome man.
@@laffin_out_loud That's not what they were referring to: Henry was a red headed man with and paler skin, Meyer skin tone is closer to the dark one that people imagine Anne having. So yes he's handsome but the physical characteristics is nothing like Henry.
@@tiffanysamuels279 the Spanish princess adaptation has a more accurate look of Henry the 8th, and he plays a more conflicted less aggressive, more timid Henry, as he would have been at 14-18 ish recommend watching
I like that he really understands that time and tudors reign and the character he is playing
We don’t know what he looked like really . Paintings ? Come on
"In having Elizabeth, he would have the greatest son one could want, it was just a woman." Love the way this interview went, and the fact he's not just knowledgeable about the history, but draws on it and forms intelligent conclusions is amazing. I love it.
He played an outstanding Henry. He is truly amazing.
Tianna Piehl Keith Mitchell played a better King Henry the VIII
Yes he was amazing
Tina Santospago
He is a brilliant actor, however the physical attributes were nothing close to accurate. This actor was small, dark haired, and short.-and later in life Henry was so ginornous they carried him around in a hand lifted cart, with his ulcerated stinking leg. Anne Boylene had dark, dark eyes yet they had a sharp blue eyed girl play the part. I found it bizarre. I love the show, purchased it and watched more than once.
Np, not quite the same.
I love the way he speaks. So eloquent, so articulate and so passionate. And Dear God... those lips. Jonathan is flawless.
I couldn´t agree more! I wish he were the examiner of the CPE examination I am about to take. He has a perfect diction. If he were the narrator of the listening part in the examination, everyone would get the answers right.
He was a very fine Elvis. That was
The Elvis project was the first thing I saw him in. And he was one sexy Elvis. So you know he gave Henry his all. Sigh!
Shauncie Quinones amen sister!
And his eyes
He was brilliant as King Henry. There was a lot of great acting on that show but he was absolutely mesmerizing and was the main attraction that brought that film to life and
completely drew me in from beginning to end.
Jonathan's performance in tudors, was juste a pur gold. I don't forget
all the incredible actors who composed this show and who made a diamond
out of it. All were amazing. I was literally immersed in the 16th
century. Thanks to the person who made this show and who cast these
actors.
I love what he said about Elizabeth, that she was the answer to Henry's prayer except she was a woman. Elizabeth was great
I just LOVE what he says at the end about Elizabeth. She was the son he wanted so desperately. He would be so proud to see what she accomplished.
He deserves a lot more recognition and praise for his portrayal of Henry VIII
In all his interviews where he talks about characters he plays you can tell he really does feel the roles he plays. Such a talented and beautiful person.(人´∀`*)
Your pic is Tim Curry?
+Darla Fields Yes, that's Tim.
he was nuts in Ride with the Devil
I just watched the Tudors all 4 seasons. His acting is so good I was literally crying at the end when Henry died. That’s how good this man is at acting I seriously felt bad for him and if you’ve actually watched the show no one should feel bad for Henry
We just finished the entire series tonight. It was magnificent. You were fantastic. I trust you received many awards for your performance.👍🏻
What i found incredible with him in the «Tudors» was that, Eventhough he plays along with 6 gorgeous, great actresses, they never outshined him. Jonathan M. was brilliant. Greetings from Norway 🌟
Obviously that's a result of the screenwriters giving his character the glorious stuff that's easy to like. If you look past that, and your infatuation with good looks (I presume), many of them are as good or maybe even greater in acting. The actress who played Catherine of Aragon is incredible.
Katherine was only 5 years older than Henry. She's portrayed as an old lady and he young, but that wasn't really the case.
I believe he's not so much talking about the age difference but also the fertility involving women at that age. As well as the sexual attraction that may have fallen at that time as well.
Because she was in her 40s at the time and he was still in his mid 30s. Where as, the age of 5-6 years isn't too much time. I think the more important thing is where their ages were specifically at the time.
In the end, his reasons for loving anne boleyn were both human and unfaithful. I do sympathize with him, in the pressure of having to solidify your family's legacy to the throne, but getting with Anne boleyn the way he did was pompous and selfish. And like Jonathan just so beautifully said, an act of youthful lust and naivity.
Sorry if I projected this as an argumentative nature, just putting in my two cents.
Love the Tudors, and Jonathan!
@@nataleeerickson5572 I agree. Plus she had been pregnant every year for many years and lost all but one of those babies. That would have aged her. The pregnancies and the grief would have been hard on her body.
Katherine of Aragon was pregnant 5-6 times which was why she aged. But she is still portrayed as a beautiful character
Only 5!? I thought it was like a 15 year difference wtf. 🤣
@@elmore707 I mean you can’t blame Catherine of Aragon if she was pregnant 6 times and had 4 miscarriages and 1 infant child birth. Most of her life she spent grieving
He is a extrordinary young actor.I loved his Henry I really do.I have The Tudors and can rewatch anytime I want.
Goodness. he is brilliant at interviews and his perspective on history, culture and context of this period of history. He is such a passionate actor and has such natural beauty. i am sad that he had some demons to face with alcoholism and i trust that he has healed this part of his life. i am so impressed with him and hope his star continues to shine. good luck to him.
Katherine was a brilliant and well educated, proper queen. She had the love of the people and was raised in the art of Strategy and Tactics People tend to underestimate her.
molarmama32 she also gave birth to a few male heirs, yes they died, . i have much respect for her
@Oniket she could of gave England an heir and few spares the problem was Henry 8th was possibly kell positive and probably had mcleod syndrome which causes reproductive issues if the woman he impregnates is not kell positive like him I'm guessing katherine was not kell positive like Henry 8th so her body was rejecting a couple of there unborn children due to them having kell positive blood mary was most likely able to be carried to term due to not inheriting her father's kell positive blood
Miss this show so much. It was more than entertaining...it was also informative and beautifully done.
👑✝️❤️🇬🇧
Omg when he was talking about Catherine of Aaragon. I could see the Henry in him when he said and she got old.
Jon needs to ignore jealous people. He is such a beauty … but above all talented.
Janice Woodson who the heck is jealous?! He's a doll. Don't know why I keep coming back to this video!
Heather Quinn ~ There's a few people on other feeds that said he was all wrong for the part because of his appearance.
yeah, RIGHT!🤐🤐🤐🤐
we fell in love with Dracula (which is a brilliant version of the famous story) but we never watched the Tudors (for some reason I don't know! ) so we are now marathoning The Tudors and find JRM to be an outstanding/talented/brilliant actor! this interview was enjoyable to see especially in the light of the fact it was made BEFORE the Tudors actually aired for the first time.
where can you catch up on the episodes of Tudors?
Harini H netflix
I'm so bummed that Dracula got cancelled, ugh, a classic NBC move :-/
preach
+Harini H On Amazon if you haven't seen it yet. I just finished watching it-loved him!!!!!!
The BEST Showtime series ever!
I adored him as henry loved the series love Jonathan.. 💛💛💛💛💛
Best series ever ...best actor ever Jonathan...💛💛
I like he knows that Henry got he wished granted through Elizabeth.
Just finished watching the Tudors...Wow what a great actor .loved the show and fell in love with John and Henry Cavell..
Bravo!
Recently finished the Tudors series for which I was fully enthralled. Jonathan Rhy's acting commanded my respect for the many layers of depth in role of King Henry Vlll.
he was excellent as Henry
capeheartriz Try Keith Mitchell
This show is awsome and he plays his part outstandingly.
Jonathan, I have never heard a better explanation than "You have to be young to fall in love they way he did with Anne Boleyn" It is so true. When this first came on (The Tudors) I was of a certain age, now, being in my 40's, I 100% understand what he means. Young love is often filled with all the drama, all the angst, all the deep emotions that run through us as a young person... falling in love at 40 is quite different. Things that were so dramatic at 20, barely make a dent at 40........ I loved hearing this and seeing this. Having watched the Tudors at that younger age, and seeing it now at 40ish, it's like a different world....... even love is different for the young. Great show! Great actor. Love this!!!!
Actually Henry was as old as 34 when he met Anne. And he married her even later - being 42.
He played Henry so perfectly. Great actor!
BRAVO. Very well said!!! All the points you bring up is what every teacher, teaching British history hopes their students come to understand about Medieval / dynastic history. Namely, that one's feelings on love and marriage don't matter. What does matter is that the subject of marriage, who you marry, your family, your (societal) image are all matters of STATE. Thank You, for bringing that out.
No one could have embodied young Henry as JRM did. I’m watching the series again and it’s a brilliant today as it was when it first aired!!
Jonathan might as well have been a king. I wish Henry VIII could see how he is portrayed through this undoubtedly talented actor.
Best henry the Viii ever! The scenes with his temper are amazing!
Totally agree
one of the best, most passionate actors around.
love that man :)
this show is a classic im so glad i watched it all before i die, such drama and power and corruption everything that we like to watch as humans and jonathan nailed his role great actor i would love to see him in other such roles
We all die each day
Love how he stays in character and uses his Henry-English accent in interviews - just like other renowned actors like Christian bale. For any who didn't know (like me until today) Meyers is actually Irish!
Wow. Henry and Anne, in their selfish pursuit for their own pleasure, caused so many heads to literally roll. JRM gave the most unique and insanely brilliant portrayal of Henry VIII I've ever seen.
Elizabeth F. I agree. His portrayal of Henry was perfect. Well played.
@@hollyb6885 Thanks! Love him!
interesting insight of H8 character. must be nice to have a conversation with this guy, plus he's handsome as hell
Jonathan is goddamn beautiful.
Haha, so funny how he starts out in his proper English TV accent, then as he gets fired up and passionate about his part he falls back in that EXTREMELY HOT Irish accent!
MOST VERSATILE ACTOR EVER! SO BRILLIANT!
Hail to the King.... I'd be a happy queen, or hell a happy mistress if my king was Jonny. He's a brilliant actor and better yet can sing as well. My top 5 favorite movies is August Rush. He's why
Definitely brilliant there is not one part that he did not capture perfectly and capture the audience every moment
I saw one episode on the history channel and I was hooked. I went out and bought the dvd series and this guy is a brilliant actor. Consummate professional!
There was no other actor that could have portrayed Henry VIII better than Jonathan did.. And the same goes for all of the other characters.
So... he's wearing a tank top to an interview... :drools:
i know right
tara thelen He's a stunning looking, gorgeous man.
And he has talent. Which proves he's not just another pretty face, but also an inteligent man. :)
he better took it off ha ha ha!
Ma va um duh
He was absolutely phenomenal in this
Henry Tudor didn't give Anne Boleyn long enough time to give him a son. 3 years is not uncommon for a woman to have a baby a miscarriage and another miscarriage. The stress of trying to have another baby only compounds not getting pregnant and so many of us women have been there.
Especially during that time due to poor hygiene, diet, and stress of being Queen in a country where most people wanted her dead.
I have always thought, that because Elizabeth of York, was really the only reason Henry VII could hold the throne, that it was a "natural" way.....the line could only continue thru the female, as history showed it had. And thru the female line, did it continue with James I.
I fell in love with you on the first episode of the Tudors❤️
he is so gorgeous and he was amazing when playing king henry the VIII such a talented actor
He commits to character. Truly embodies who he plays as
I love this show
Such an intelligent and well informed man.
I am so happy for him... "THE WORLD KNOWS HIS NAME!"! XO LOVE HIM
Charles II refused to divorce his wife, Queen Catherine of Braganza, dispite the fact that she never produced one single child that survived. His illigitimate children were all over England, so it was not his fault.
season 2...the most touching season...gave me the chills
I love what he says about Elizabeth.
Jonathan did justice to henry’s character
an extreme talent, more talented than 99% actors, few rarely have this deep character, heart on the screen, maybe Peter O'Toole is mirrored with his good looks, voice, owning the character as he carries the film
Jonathan is an amazing actor!!
Jonathon your incrediblly handsome, incrediblly intelligent and equally talented.✔Your right Jonathon! Henry certainly lead England into what she is today!
Everyone says Henry wanted Anne Boleyn for selfish reasons. No, he needed a son. It was his duty to leave the country a prince. That was the time, the construct that was put into his head in his early years. And Catherine of Aragon sadly was too old to give birth, so his divorce was not only out of lustful passion as modern minds tend to think.
I'm late on wayching The Tudors...but wow what a performance.
I am really really looking forward to the new series they're going to have on Catherine of Aragon because honestly there's not enough about her and I honestly like her better then Anne. I find Anne, don't get me wrong, interesting in the sense that she was not perfect, passionate, and ambitious. She sort of resembled everything contradictory of what one thinks old fashioned ideals of women. She's human and real. But Catherine was no doubt someone who was above and beyond. She was remarkable to and incredibly moral and good and I honestly admire how steadfast she was in her beliefs. I think she was everything Mary could have been had all the terrible things early on in childhood not happen to her. Ironically, Elizabeth's hardship made her strong, while Mary's made her resentful, but Elizabeth had a very much easier time to adapt then Mary, and honestly I think out of both of them Mary suffered the most so I think her resentment and anger was understandable, while Elizabeth was just not the sort to hold a grudge. Another irony is that both Mary and Anne share that, the tendency of being resentful and holding grudges, they were both angry women, while Catherine was calm and resolute, and Elizabeth was patient and determined. The same, both of them despite difference of religion tried to hold true to their beliefs in the face of trial from Catherine's case surviving Henry, and Elizabeth's case of surviving Mary.
Mary might have gotten her anger from her father. She probably resembled him deep down in personality, at least in ferocity... though I have no doubt Elizabeth does too, I just wonder where she got the cool headedness, the calculating nature, the patience, and calm in moments of trial....
Just saw "The Tudors", and he did a wonderful interrpretation of Henry Vlll.
I love his eyes..
Brilliant man!
a brilliant actor. he gives all his characters such intensity that you can't help but think about his character long after you watch his movie, then you have to find another of his movie because you can't get over him. he's very addictive to watch and he's an incredibly goodlooking guy!! at present, I am inlove with him in THE VIKINGS!!! I hope they don't kill him off and lagertha, that would be devastating and I will stop watching if they do that!!!
Henry was NOT THIS HOT.
Well, all powerful men are attractive to most women...whether they are physically beautiful or not. Contemporary writings say that Henry was extremely good looking...tall, healthy, powerful, etc. While some of that may be fawning BS, it does seem that Henry was the supreme alpha male in his milieu. There are many examples in our own lives....and in the 1500s, Henry was the superstar of the age.
When henrey was in his early twenties he was desribed as incredibly handsome, he only grew older and fatter towards his thirties
Agreed. I saw portraits of him as a young man, and I thought he was repulsive looking physically. Richard III was much more attractive.
@@rhaenyralikesyoutube6289 What's considered attractive changes for different time periods. For his time, he was hot.
@@leanie9660 All of the pictures of this FREAK KING called Henry, seems to me as if he just An OVERSIZED, INSECURED, NARCISSISTIC, girly man, that totally egos himself out...as for beauty , yeah he may beat out Kim Kardashian's 2nd Freaky mother!!!
If real King Henry is this hot, the number of his wives would be a lot lot more 😬
oh my lord, its a master piece, I like watching, it takes me to these days though i thank god i didnt live that era. I feel so sad when I see the scene of torture. The actor Jonathan (Henry 8th) played his roll fantastically, he is so persuading. I visited London tower my self, but believe it or not watching the episode is mare a live for me.
He made Hank young and cool. Cool clothing and tall boots.
MarshalPoole lmao
Hank?
MarshalPoole ...yes..apparently, he was not initially interested in taking this role..he felt that he was not the right actor for the part. They convinced him to do it based on the opportunity to appeal to a younger audience.
i love the way he saild "his LOINS....."
He is such a good actor❤
FIT AS FUCK!
its his eyes ,he really played henry VIII really well ❤
Rhys Meyers is a hell of a good actor!
He has the most beautiful eyes! They're very seductive.
i have the box set of the Tudors which is brilliant and the acting is superb...henry the 8th has always fascinated me
it was granted through Anne bolyene's child not Catherine of Aragon..💗💗💗 wish he cud figure out that before... god he loves anne so much
I'm surprised how articulate he is, nicely done JRM. This sexy, fascinating, visually GORGEOUS series is available on Netflix - two seasons are available instantly online and the other two need to be rented. It is SO worth the time. Don't go spouting Tudor history until you do a little fact checking tho:-) They did take creative liberties.
Johnathan is an amazing actor the first thing i remember watching him in was Titus Adronicus. He needs an award some day for all his excellent work. I agree with most all points Johnathan makes. One thing i do think is Henry the eighth handled the women in his life very badley. Catherine howard wounded henrys pride she was his Karma as was Anne Bolynes daughter becoming the greatest ruler England has ever known. I think also Henry was tired of catherine Aragon more than Johnathan mentions as he took mistresses like Bessie Blount she proved to Henry he could beget a son it sewed an obsession in Henry. Then there was Mary Bolyne she too bore the king offspring. I know Henry loved Katherine of Argon a long time he was faithful to here for quite a lomg time... Again when she was no lomger useful to Henry she was discarded kept from her daughter Mary and kept poor cold and starving. I couldnt imagine anyone playing Henry the eight better than Johnathan Reyse Meyer. To play such a complex character you need an equally complex actor. He never disapoints.
"The Tudors" est la meilleure série TV historique depuis Les Rois maudits" produits par la TV française dans les 70's.
i looooove the way his mouth moves when he talks! he could say anything and i wouldnt care.
I think though that if the reformation hadn't happened, if he hadn't dumped Katherine of Aragon - Mary would have married much sooner than she did. She would have been able to try for children much earlier, and she wouldn't have had to work so hard to overcome Protestantism and the threat of Elizabeth as a Protestant heir and focus for plots against her. In consequence, she would have been a very different Queen of England and might even have had direct heirs.
However, JRM is probably right that the reformation would probably have happened at some point, but it's impossible to say.
he's a beautiful man
You’re an amazing actor, Tudor’s was great.
❤ ein sehr, sehr großartiger Schauspieler und ein Wunderschöner Mann ❤ ich habe alle seine Serien und Filme gesehen, die man in Germany/ Deutschland sehen kann.
He's so understanding
HE PLAYS THE KING FANTASTIC
you´re exactly right! Maybe he´s drunk or stoned during the interview..that doesn´t
matter! His passion and vulnerability was fascinating me.Meanwhile I know all of his
films. This man touches me deep inside, though I`m much older than him! He´s really
an intensively and presently actor. truely talented!
He is amazing as Henry ☺
He was amazing as king Henry
Brilliant performance
@BustaHiman Jonathan has said in numerous interviews that he looks nothing like henry, but YES omg he is an amazing actor. And he's also BEAUTIFUL too! :D
i respect this guy so much he has so much passion for his work which no other actor or actress does. jonathan rhys meyers is my acting idol and always will be. hes hot, sensational actor has an amazing personality and hes just over all amazing. his irish accent melts my heart not just becoz its sexy but also because i am partialy irish myself. his lips are just sexy i would love 2 kiss them they r so lush. much love from kyrie xxxxx
@RackGno Well, he's talking nonsense really, but he's very pretty so we'll forgive him. He talks about Henry having to be young to fall in love with Anne they way he did. Henry didn't meet Anne until he was 34 years old (not young at all in those days - he'd already been married to Catherine for 16 years) and he pursued her for 8 years before they married in 1533 when he was 42.
ur amazing but i love anne boleyn and henry VIII relationship really
