    Learn about the origins and uses of mist filters! Diffusion is a particularly good fit for the "extra sharp" Sirui lenses, to break their critical focus and give them a more organic and classic look.

    Great episode! Imperfections, whether in photography or filmmaking, give the image a certain character. Cold and sterile were some great ways to describe an overly-sharp, digitally feeling image.

    I am a big fan of diffusion filters! They really give a more pleasing image, and closer to what our eyes see in reality. Eyes have lots of aberrations) In fact the "cleaner" the digital image is, the more fake the staged scene looks. You start to notice sets, props, wigs, make-up and it ruins the grand illusion :) And yeah, cannot miss it - great suit, Tito! Enjoying you style.

    btw: creating your own very beginner and budget friendly black mist filter is actually pretty easy.. buy a UV filter, some black halloween hairspray, spray a thin film onto the back of the filter (so its protected from rain etc) and violá :)
    if it is too strong or uneven, just wash it off and start over..

    Great episode. I have a couple Hollywood Blackmagic filters that I like. However, I need to get larger ones for my Matte box to cover the FVD16B's 86mm front. I pretty much stick to 1/8th and 1/4 on 2x anamorphic. In my testing, any more than 1/4 gets too strong for my taste. At lest with my 2x scopes

      @@AnamorphicOnABudget haha you explained it a lot better than I did!! Just trying to kill the over usage of them. Lots of kids buying these filters thinking it’s making their footage look better, when in reality they’re overusing them and it doesn’t always look that great when not being used responsibly!!

    So this has been a point I have been researching for quite some time. Could you possibly do an episode on how to get cinematic on a budget. Combining, affordable anamorphic, affordable diffusion, affordable lighting, and then maybe add some subtle film grain in post. It would be awesome and rather inspiring to see how close you could get! To that truly exclusive "cinematic"look. If anyone can do It you can!

    Nice research on the filters, one of my favorite tools. A sort of janky question here, why do you almost always turn your head towards the right of camera center line and have your eyes all the way to the left? You seem to rarely flatten your face directly towards the lens which by the way is far more flattering for your face shape. If it is a personal style thing I guess tastes differ. From the viewer's point of view it seems like you purposely avoid directly engaging with us. That is in conflict with the great information you share that so directly impacts choices we make as film makers. Tito please look us straight in the eyes, we are not expecting a corp interview style when you are speaking to us and not another person on set.

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget
      @AnamorphicOnABudget  3 роки тому +1

      Hahaha I love this comment. The main reason I turn my head one way or another is so I'm not on profile in the B-cam, and also favoring the light on my face. In this particular video, I messed up and did a near side key, but in most others I'm playing for the light. :)

    • @robertpdavenportii2908
      @robertpdavenportii2908 3 роки тому

      @@AnamorphicOnABudget Cool, why do you not light it so you have the same shape lighting directly facing the cam straight on? You can always reposition the B-Cam so it is not a harsh profile if you want to avoid that type shot. Move your tools around, if you have the space to do so. You should control the shot whenever physically possible. I suggest you have the light work for you so you do not have to play to it.

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget
      @AnamorphicOnABudget  3 роки тому

      Space is the biggest issue. You might notice the set for this video is different, because I just moved my office into the living room for more space, so we're improving it still. In any case, nothing here is final, and I've put as much thought and effort as I could into this one, which by no means means it's perfect. hahaha. I appreciate your input and stay tuned for improvement!

    So, I keep finding conflicting answers to this question but, in which direction do you swap out the filters as your focal length increases? if a have a 35mm with a 1/2 mist on it what strength would i use for an 85mm lens? would i use a 1/4 or a 1?

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget
      @AnamorphicOnABudget  2 роки тому

      It really depends on your preference. The version I hear is to use stronger diffusion with shorter focal lengths, and subtler diffusion with longer ones. But, a lot comes to the style you want to achieve.
