At a zone conference on my mission our president asked us to read the Book of Mormon cover to cover and mark every scripture that was a part of the doctrine of Christ before our next conference It was a heart changing experience!
Thank you for this. This past year I have felt the need to point out Christ-like behaviors in my friends and family that haven’t gone to church in years, may or may not “believe”, or just feel disconnected from God. Understanding and preaching the doctrine of Christ makes so much sense. My family who aren’t active in church need to be reminded that they are not far from the love of God.
This was SO GOOD! I’ve been reading Isaiah Decoded by Avraham Giliadi. All through his book he teaches the principle of “humiliation before exaltation “. Basically we have to descend before we can ascend closer to God. Christ was the greatest example of this. You hit the nail right on the head! Thank you so much for your insights. I just found your channel and am loving all your thoughts!
Enjoyed this presentation- using Lehi’s dream to expand an understanding of the Doctrine of Christ - brilliant! Opposite to condescension and the Tree of Life, I find the description stated by Lehi of the great and spacious building to be symbolically significant - “the great and spacious building; and it stood as it were in the air, high above the earth.” The people in the building were all elevated ‘high above the earth” in opposition to a position of lowering themselves. Lehi bears witness of the fall of this building- “and it fell, and the fall thereof was exceedingly great.” In direct contrast, those who follow Christ down in the water and take the Holy Spirit as their guide, who partake of the fruit of the tree, “having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest.”
I'm a year late commenting on this. In plain language Nephi ends his dialogue to us and in 2 Nephi 32:6 (in perfect clarity) "Behold, this is the Doctrine of Christ....then he goes on to explain an EVENT that is hardly emphasized anywhere (and not even covered in this youtube). Why? Many people of the Book of Mormon show the pattern of how to enter into this event. Why are we not talking about this event in verse 6? Have we hardened our hearts against it because it seems impossible to do? I grew up in the church. I've never had anyone teach this doctrine, and I never saw this verse pop out to me despite the 30-plus times I've read the Book of Mormon. But it's there. What do we do about it? Also, in 3 Nephi 11 Christ is saying the phrase "this is my doctrine" 5x...and then he talks about baptism and about visiting us with the Baptism of Fire and with the Holy Ghost - which is a critical idea we (in the church) might have little understanding about. It talks about a deep humility, like a child's. My objective in commenting is this. If we see our weaknesses, we can be made strong. We are promised by Christ in 3 Nephi 11:39 that the gates of Hell would not prevail against us IF we are built on the Doctrine of Christ. Do we, in the church today, show the fruit of prevailing? Or have we taken to us the gods of our neighbors? What fills our time? What is the suicide rate among us? How many temple marriages go belly up? Mine did. I'm not judging anyone. I'm a WIP. Porn and sex addiction...how big of a problem has that been? Are we prevailing? How about the number of people leaving the church? We are showing fruit, but.....what kind? We might not be talking about the actual doctrine. The ENTRY DOOR to the doctrine is childlike humility, broken and contrite (Like King Lamoni). It might be asking the Lord, "I don't know, what I don't know, am I missing something critical? Will you enhance my ability to hear more from you? Which prophets of yours have shown this event in their life? What does this look like? Why did Nephi put this verse in? Is it really your doctrine or are you just messing with me? God fields all questions. There are no bad ones. Thank you Cwic Media....I love a lot of your material and your great courage. God bless.
Thanks. It is always more complex but beautifully simple. Love it! Within the rejection of this doctrine is man's pride in deciding what Our Heavenly Father can and cannot do. It goes back in a way to the war in heaven...
I really like how you compare baptism by immersion to submission (humility). Very thought provoking! To me, water represents human emotion (life). In that sense, Christ takes on the human experience.
Just a thought as I was listening. Lowered into the water to immerse and rise up out of the water= baptism. Water can represent chaos and evil- the leviathan and behemoth are water creatures. Could us coming to Earth in its telestial state (water) be lowering ourselves into water? The challenge is rising out of the water completely and rising up to the mountain of the Lord. Water-Coast- Plain- Hills and Mountains. Just some imagery.
Favorite LDS Scripture: "Behold this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life if man." How does one attain glory? By lowering oneself. By lifting others. Thank you for teaching the Doctrine of Christ with such great clarity! The hard part is determining how to apply it in our individual lives 🙂
D&C 11:20 Behold, this is YOUR work, to keep my commandments, yea, with all your might, mind and strength. (humble yourself, submit to My will) Great reading to understand further: D&C 11: 21-30.
I appreciate your gentle approach to LDS doctrine. Although I don't believe in the LDS Jesus, again I appreciate the clarity you bring to your religion's Jesus.
Angel: Hi Nephi, waddaya want? Nephi: To understand the tree of life vision. Angel: Do you know what is meant by the condescension of God? Nephi: Well, I know God loves us...but...no...not really. Angel: Well lookie here and you'll see the God of Israel leave his throne in heaven, be born of a mortal woman, serve and heal people, submit himself to suffer all things for all people, allow himself to be mocked, hated, tortured and killed, and then bring about the resurrection of all mankind bringing us back to the presence of the Father. Is that a bit more clear now? Nephi: Oh yeah. Plain and precious, plain and precious.
Thank you very much for this video too and the insights you provided in it. It's amazing how the same tactics still have similar effects throughout the various generations. That vast majority of what the world calls Christianity has once again denied the divinity of Christ as a huge step toward the same destruction.
I like your insistence on using the word "immersion" and how Christ was "Immersed...to fulfill all righteousness" especially considering the symbolism associated with water. He had to be immesed, to take all these things upon himself, to fulfill all righteousness.
When I think of the Doctrine of Christ, I think of Christ's own explanation of his doctrine in 3 Nephi 11. It includes faith, repentance, becoming as a child, and the baptisms of water, fire, and spirit. And then he warns: "whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock."
I dont get the significance of lowering yourself under water to be humble but I dont feel strongly about the purpose of Baptism being to be obedient to Christ just as he was obedient to the Father. When we take upon selves Christs name we take upon ourselves his purpose and mission. By doing that he will perfect us and help make us like him. Then eventually we will rule with him in glory and as services of the Father. Very powerful teaching.
I wonder if you’ve ever studied Rene Girard’s theories. I find them a strength to our faith how we are mimic creatures and we needed a good example to follow because of this natural man tendency to minic another
Please explain Mathew 11-12 no one I know has any idea, most never even noticed it when they read it. I am at a total loss as to the meaning " there is a war in heaven and the violent have taken over " ?????
This is about the church on earth (Kingdom of Heaven) since the time that John was baptizing into the church until the time Jesus said this phrase. He is saying there is violence (and likely shame) for all who got baptized in to the chuch, and followed John and Jesus.
Greg , this one is intreaged from your presentation of these perspectives . per-sa’ however , this one has concerns , of how one utilizes your common us of the word ( that ) vs the word (this ) .
Interesting aside. The original handwritten B of M refers to Mary as the mother of God. When preparing the manuscript for printing Joseph recognized that between 600 bc and 1830 ad that phrase had taken on specific doctrinal meaning and he clarified it to read that this Mary became the mother of the Son of God.
In Lehi’s dream Lehi was led by a person in white to a dark place…. Which to me means he was deceived for some time until he came to an awakening. Nephi did not experience that, but was able to see more clearly the symbol of the doctrine of Christ. Can we come to the tree of life right away or will some be lead to a dark place first seems to be a generational matter as we see the new generation arise with wings as it were. God expects us to use the intelligence we have to come unto Him, and not by borrowing others light.
@@kevinferrin5695 I saw it as Lehi having to repent and that it took a long time to recognize his sin… i dont see an angel standing next to a sinful person but rather “ directing” him to repent…we have to recognize our own sin ( pride), turn around and change before we see the “ Light.” Another way of thinking is that it was not a good “angel” but rather Lehi being deceived by what appeared to be an Angel of God… and therefore wandering in darkness for a long time… Enos wrestled and cried and suffered… we dont know how long before he came to an understanding… of God!
There is ongoing debate on whether the angel was good or bad. I personally side with the long time representing his own journey along the path which, for many of us, is not clear. A Paul said, "through a glass darkly..."
@@kevinferrin5695 I see it has the “angel “ leading him to the dark place… where he needs to go through the repentance process for his sins before he can see the tree.
water baptism without the other two immersions has no meaning. The fulness of the gospel of Christ equals the doctrine of Christ. Many scripture show that these two phrases are equivalents.
Provocatgive presentation on Lehi's Dream, the Doctrine of Christ and the condenscension of Christ. Your three points: the mortal birth of Christ, the baptism of Christ and the bearing of our sins do focus on condenscension. I would add (Moses 6: 58-61) that Christ's mortal birth and his spiritual birth - baptism - represent more than condenscension. It represents birth into Gods Kingdom.
Are you teaching there are not three different eternal beings in the Godhead (Eternal Heavenly Father/Eloheim, Jesus Christ/Jehovah, Holy Ghost), or you simply enhancing definitions to defer enemy names of what Jesus carries?
I am definitely teaching that there are 3 different eternal beings. "Union not Trinity". I can't answer about the "enhancing definitions" without a direct reference. I would like to know what you mean though. Thank you for watching!
Can you explain what you mean? I actually think of more than just "choose the right" (doing what is right meaning obeying God's commandments) with CTR. I think "choose the Redeemer" and "choose to remember" His teachings.
