Good idea videos. I bought a decathlon bike with campognola gears, good for camping. from side of road after doing sw coast path. I've lost alot weight as I was crushing tyres. Planning on camping and taking under along time, scenic. messing around with tyres and panniers, weather is better now. thanks anyway.

Very good! We were on a week ride and a new bike tandem, the seat bolt was defective designed and seat would not stay in place,,, we had to buy the bike the day before the ride due to injury, well like you said its good to ride a bike that you have tested, we finished the 500 mile ride but I did it not sitting. The bike makes no difference as long as its comfortable for the long ride. Great advice! We had a person that loved his single speed and road that no problem for him for he was ridding it for the last few years.
Used to do 120miles a day without batting an eyelid in my youth, toured scotland. Now middle aged, recovering from a disability, recently returned to cycling and intend to tour. Can't make up my mind though which bike to use, the Ribble Endurance Ti, The Kona Sutra SE, or a tadpole trike, ICE Sprint X Tour. The Kona Sutra is a steel tourer, most upright, bum will becomes uncomfortable due most of weight on it, Brookes b17 saddle. 10.5mph average speed. Ribble Enurance Ti - most enjoyable ride, more sporty ride , but more upright than a race bike, hands go numb but manageable, b17saddle. 12.5mph average speed. ICE Sprint X Tour - super comfortable 9.5 mph average speed.
Were you happy enough with your pre trip fitness levels etc...or do you have any tips, advice, for novices wishing to give it a go? Congratulations BTW! Quite inspiring for those of us wanting to have a crack at it!
I did an epic on an ugly rusting relic from the late 90s a few years ago. 450 miles. I knew every bolt and carried spare spokes, Stein cassette tool. Built the rear wheel myself and more valuable than the rest of the bike. Went through some very dodgy neighborhoods and was glad to have the junky looking well tuned machine. Self supported, not catered epic. Dodging crack heads and ladies of the evening.
Or as my dear old granddad used to say - "Son, you have to piss with the cock you've got..." Good advice about the bike there though, whatever you own will do the job, just make sure it's all tickety boo before setting off. I haven't finished watching the full video yet, just couldn't resist watching this...
