God, this is by far the most beautiful game I have ever played. Never has a game captured the essence of adventure as well as Grandia. It's my favorite game of all time. Can't explain how much I love this game. :'D
madcityy You remind me of someone I spoke to about the game on the very first message board i ever joined. He was right, as you are. Grandia DOES capture a grandiose essence of adventure.
I thought final fantasy was always the be all and end all of adventure rpgs.. until i played grandia.. god, it really is an amazing adventure, very eventful and very charming, i almost wish i could be on the adventure with them.. the world was just amazing
+EggiTheShadow Grandia was close to being as good as Wild Arms and FF9 for me, but the ending sorta irritated me, just cuz I think *spoilers* the sacrifice Leen made was sorta dulled by her being mysteriously brought back . But I can't logically say why FF9 stuck with me more - possibly because I think Kuja is a much more memorable villain...Plus I think that Vivi is my favorite video game character of all time, period.
I don't think a game has ever had as much of an effect on me as this one.. I still play it now and I'm 25 and it makes me feel like a 10 year old kid going on another adventure every single time.
They did something with this game that I had never experienced before or after this game. What adventure really is, loving the carachters like they were real. The music... I would love to see a another game like this were Justin goes on other adventures with all the other's. Older of course like in the end of the game but still crazy in he's mind.
detergenb29 Same here man. I bought a hard copy to replace my burned copy from when I got it when I was like 7 (had a chipped ps1). I wanted the authentic version to play on my ps2 and my girlfriends ps1(no chip 😥). I then bought it on PSN so I could have it on my PS3 and never not have it. Love this game. My kids will play this game man. When I have a daughter, she'll learn why her name is Feena. Dead freaking serious.
That epic moment when you hear the opening theme and see a (rare) lovely comment section on youtube. This game certainly had something magical about it, and was one of my most enjoyable gaming experiences. Probably climbing the wall was my favourite part. Sadly never played the second one, but I think only Skies of Arcadia comes close to capturing the sense of adventure that this game does so well.
+Artie Fufkin Sadly, the second got too tied up in typical jrpg tropes to really be as memorable as the first. Even the soundtrack just doesn't have the same soul. It's not a horrible game, but it does not match the first in my heart. Same goes for the 3, though I never played Xtreme. As you say, Skies is the only thing that really comes close, and I can never tell if I'm happy or sad that Sega has refused to ever make a sequel to it.
+Michael Dougherty I agree. I recently finished collecting all 4, and none of them seem to compare to the original... just... something about it that makes it such a magical experience. I swear I want my children to try this game... that will be the most magical thing in my lifetime.
Sure the 1st Grandia is the original one... the one and only. But the second one is also worth it to play. takes some time to get into it. but after finishing it u got the same feeling as after Grandia 1 :D
The game so perfectly captures the spirit of adventure. Here is an example of some of the dialogue that I still have in my head to this day. that captures this theme perfect. Lady: Go east Justin Justin: East, but if we go east we'll reach the End of the World Lady: There is no end of the world, Justin
Thanks for uploading!!! Grandia it's by far one of my top games of all time... and the only that makes me smile, cry and hate.. I love the characters, the music and the story. Easily one of my all time favourite games. My Favourite Story, Battle System, Levelling system... and certainly one of the best OSTs. Thank you so much for this upload and for bringing back so many great memories of this game
discovered this game on a rainy day off of high school. My brother went to blockbuster to rent a game and came back with legends of legaia, but the game was defective and could be played passed the first town. So he returned it and came back with Grandia saying that it was a very deep rpg by the looks of the back case. So we fired it up and as soon as the opening credits came on I was like, "Crap this game looks like its going to be dumb". MAN WAS I WRONG!!!!!! After playing those first 3 days we were both HOOKED and Fans! The characters and story has stuck with me these past 15+ years and every once again I go back an replay this Gem of a game. Im so happy legends of Legaia was messed up and we discovered this game. So Im also very happy that people still enjoy playing this game and listening to the awesome sound tract. +Lisa Michelle thanks for you comment. Oh and what about that ending! Anyone else feel sad that we couldn't see Justin and Feena?
This game helped me in a hard time when i was a kid, family stuff haha, it even taught me stuff , like to help others, maintain a smile throught hard times, do my best to achieve my dreams, things like that. I can almost say that this game saved my life :). So yeah, fav game EVER hahahaha, i still play it to this day, once or twice a year, at least.
i never ever comment on youtube, BUT i'm going to make an exception for one of my favorite games ever (hell, maybe MY favorite game) and its legendary soundtrack. many years have passed, but still i get goosebumps when i hear the theme of the town of Parm. it almost breaks my heart with nostalgy
Just one of those titles could change somebody's life. im learning to become a games designer 2nd year. ill try my best to bring these kind of games back.
This is one of the most inspirational game music soundtracks ever made. It played a huge part in guiding me to become a professional game music composer. I'm so glad to see it means so much to so many others here.
I played this in my early teen, on the PS release, must have been 1999 or so. At those time RPG games were never translated to Italian, not even the most known games... I can proudly say that this game helped my knowledge of English and almost 20 years later I score more ore less a level c1 of English I remember also that I once found a transcript of the romantic song for piano and started learning it! that's how much a game can change your life :)
One of my childhood favorites, and it still is. Grandia is a classic, and its soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. When I hear the opening theme I can't help but want to go back and play it again and again.
I loved Final Fantaisy 8, and when I played Grandia, the games were over, a strong desire to make a ball is to go on an Adventure. No other game will make such an ADVENTURE call!
The nostalgia pulls at my chest i never wanted the game to end if they remade this or a sequel or whatever just as long as it has the soul from this game id be happy to pay £45 come on ubi soft and game arts give us that fantastic interactive world full of adventure that warms our hearts.
While this isn't my favorite game by any means, I enjoyed every part of it. The characters felt human and their flaws fit perfectly. It had no trouble reminding you they were children, but it wasn't child-like. The story felt like a well-written version of a saturday morning cartoon. The music is fun. The battle system was great until I learned how to break it. Even playing this through first time in my mid-20's, I felt the emotions the characters felt- awe, wonder, joy, sadness. If you've never played this, do yourself a favor. It's more than worth your time.
I'd argue that the game does have a child-like nature to it until Sue leaves your party. It's almost the games way of telling you "It's time to grow up" just before things start taking a dark turn.
They tend to have too narrow a scope. Grandia was essentially a story about boy to man, in rpg form. No one can relate to the Fal'Cie but quite a few can relate to growing up.
@@chrisbaldwin8570 I feel like most modern games in general have a "narrow scope" as you put it, since most games these days just feel like you're walking around from point A to point B triggering a bunch of scripted stuff to happen (Naughty Dog games are a perfect example of this). The best way I can describe it is most modern games have way too much "cinematic walking". That's why Breath of the Wild was such a breath of fresh air, no pun intended, to finally play a modern open-world game that doesn't hold your hand and tell you where to go or constantly interrupt you with so many intrusive and obnoxious cutscenes like most games these days... Games were so much better back then when the technology was a lot more limited in what they could do.
One of the best games in the PS One library and in ANY console. Love every bit of it. It was so cool the difference between the races (town buildings, character designs etc.) It was like you were actually traveling the world, not just a kingdom. Many, MANY games bigger than this (even these days), don't offer the diversity that you can appreciate in this gem of a game.
All my life, as I can remember, has been marked by the amazing experience this game brougth ! Gave me the love and chills for Adventure. Rise up Justin !
HD Remaster of GRANDIA (alongside GRANDIA II) has now been officially announced for PC! It will have Japanese audio in a non-Japanese release for THE VERY FIRST TIME EVER IN ALL THESE YEARS! Time to celebrate, mateys! This is going to be *THE* definitive version of this game from now on and forevermore!
The comments on this page me so riculously happy! Grandia isn't forgotten after all. It always feels like that since no one I know seems to know this game. I was 1 year old when this game came to Europe. At age 6 I wanted to play it myself despite not knowing a word of English xD Oh man. This game is a gem! ♫
Marvelous game , for the story, the caracter, the gameplay, the music... Already crying when Sue return to Parm :'( . So beatiful OST, thank you to put the all on UA-cam :)
Easily one of my favourite games when I was a kid and this brings back a great nostalgic feeling, shame it was very underrated and got missed out by a lot of people, thank you for the OST.
I spent TWO years playing this game back then during middle school and high school. I don't want to beat the game so soon, it's just too good. Just like something you cherish so much you wouldn't want it to end. so many beautiful memories of this game.
The performance quality of these pieces is just brilliant. And this is a game that released in the same year as Final Fantasy 7 with its superbly composed but (alas) synthesised sound track.
this game was just magic, the only game that felt like really living an adventure. each time i was arriving in some part of the game, i thought: ok, the adventure start right now. And 3 hours later i was again like, wow adventure starts right now. there was that feeling of hugeness, discovery, legend, and you was part of it with those wonderfull caracters. mullen was not the typical bad guy, that was just a guy that had to do he's job. would love to see a remake of the game with great graphics that respect every shot of the game and the same music.
loved JRPG games growing up and i saw the game case in my local rent a game store and i never picked it up, it was always unavailable but that case looked so cool! a game i would totally play but never got the chance to, after many years i manage to get a copy to myself from a garage sale finding, made it halfway and over the wall! the game is opening up more and is amazing i cant wait to finish it!
I have the game and and I play since I have 11 or 12 year old, today i'm 23 x) I can't sell or leave this game to someone else, it's to important for me
I bought this game in a bargain bin when the PS2 was already well out and the PS1 was just crappy shovelware. I was so surprised at how good it was once I got past the voice acting. Easily one of my favourite games of all time with a really unique combat system, characters, and soundtrack.
I can't compare the Playstation verion, but I got this for my Saturn (J) and fell in love with this game and its soundtrack right from the opening credits. "The Sandy Beach of Gumbo" is my favorite track. I just let that scene sit on my TV for hours. Thank god it was a CRT. lol
I haven't played this game yet, but I must say the soundtrack isn't bad. I think I am going to start getting games based on their soundtrack. Those are usually the games that have the most work put into them.
Mysticsloth if you have an shitty translation that ruins most of the dialogue maybe ._. german version really had an bad translation through the half of the first CD (after the great wall) and then right into the second CD where all was full off... it was't good :|
***** me too tho.. she was neat : ) well both sisters are neat in their own way. leen with wet hair looked awesome if i remember correctly.. XD that scene / picture kinda stuck to my head..
I like the part where Feena beat her chest like a furious baboon and kicked in goggleboy's head. Lol, seriously tho, I'd just sit on the title screen and just listened to the music, my 14 year old brain unable to understand the sound quality coming out of a videogame.

+donbasuradenuevo yeah some early 2000s ones are good too
Yes except some like beyond the beyond or hoshigami
One of the best JRPG of all times. Perfect in all aspects.
TheVoltrom Completely Agree. Had this game since I was 6, I'm 19 now and I still play it over and over.
They don't show Justin and Feena meet Sue in the after credits scene. But apart from that the game is perfect.
UKMikey I believe that was an artistic choice. However, I would have loved to have a seen their older characters as well.

bought a ps2 for Kings field the ancient city, so might buy grandia 2 .. who knows??
The game so perfectly captures the spirit of adventure. Here is an example of some of the dialogue that I still have in my head to this day. that captures this theme perfect.

Human civilization at it's peak , produced this masterpiece . After that , the downfall began ...
Domu Ruins my beloved.
Love the Percussion on headphones.
The Tabla/Talking drum in the Left speaker is my favorite.
Wow, your world is sunshine and butterflies.
Krusty Kraken Actually, it is not, but thanks I guess! x)
***** Lol, that wasn't a compliment.
Krusty Kraken It was sarcasm, fyi ;)
***** Wow, I really got to you.
Thanks for taking the time to upload this. It makes work a lot easier.
Marvelous game , for the story, the caracter, the gameplay, the music... Already crying when Sue return to Parm :'( . So beatiful OST, thank you to put the all on UA-cam :)
Easily one of my favourite games when I was a kid and this brings back a great nostalgic feeling, shame it was very underrated and got missed out by a lot of people, thank you for the OST.
omg i almost forgot this amazing game, i will playing this game again soon if I have time
One of the most romantic soundtracks to ever score a video game. Grandia is truly a beautiful piece of art in all aspects.
This is one of the finests rpgs I've ever played, very underrated piece of art
How is it possible to create such beauty... Grandia will stay in my heart til' i join the adventure at the end...
God I miss this game so much ..
Thanks for the upload.I spent many hour with this game and have found memories of it. :]
What a beautiful game. Wonderful story, charming characters and one of the best soundtracks of all time. It’s a gem from start to finish.
It wasn't just the gameplay that made these games for me, but also the characters. Even FF6 and FF7, as good as they were, never came anywhere close.
this game was just magic, the only game that felt like really living an adventure. each time i was arriving in some part of the game, i thought: ok, the adventure start right now.
11:10 wow I've never played this game but I can just feel the sorrow and sadness in this beautiful piece...I got chills
i love you for uploading my entire childhood memories.
thanks alot
The year 2020 and still listening to this beautiful soundtrack after 22 years! I wouldn't be the man i am today without playing grandia! 😊
loved JRPG games growing up and i saw the game case in my local rent a game store and i never picked it up, it was always unavailable but that case looked so cool! a game i would totally play but never got the chance to, after many years i manage to get a copy to myself from a garage sale finding, made it halfway and over the wall! the game is opening up more and is amazing i cant wait to finish it!
grandia and suikoden 2 favorite rpg storyline and runner up is breath of fire 3 and 4 :D
By far one of my favorite JRPGs of all time and a beautiful soundtrack
2024 and still loving every second of this!
I have the game and and I play since I have 11 or 12 year old, today i'm 23 x)
I can't sell or leave this game to someone else, it's to important for me
+Siddharta Delarue It's the only reason I keep my PS3 around, so I can still pop my PS1 Grandia in and play it on the big screen :)
+Michael Dougherty oh yeah ! You understood what's THE true pleasure my friend ;)
+Siddharta Delarue Try Grandia Redux if you havent, really good balance/diffuculty mod.
+Siddharta Delarue same age, same pleasure, i love this game
omg. you're my twin. I'm 20 and I've played over and over ever since I was 6/7.
Absolutely love this game. I'm going to play it again! :D
You can tell they used some of the tracks for Grandia II as well. That makes the experience even more cohesive.
HD remastered is coming out this winter.
aaaa.... the golden years with Grandia... and yet it is still my favorite. Especially Guido.
I bought this game in a bargain bin when the PS2 was already well out and the PS1 was just crappy shovelware. I was so surprised at how good it was once I got past the voice acting. Easily one of my favourite games of all time with a really unique combat system, characters, and soundtrack.
This and the Lunar: Silver Star Story for Playstation are two of my favorite game soundtracks of that era.
*started to cry at the first seconds* ah~ i love it sooo much ;_;
I can't compare the Playstation verion, but I got this for my Saturn (J) and fell in love with this game and its soundtrack right from the opening credits.
Thanks ever so much for the upload
The transition at 2:17 gets me right in the feels every time.
Never played this game myself, but I found the track at 20:50 and fell in love with it. The rest of the soundtrack is pretty damn fine too.
lily's seagull sounds like it fell right out of zelda, took me by surprise :o
Y'all!!! Grandia I is getting a remaster on PC and Switch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The second piece, Sandy Beach of Gumbo, sounds like romantic candlelight dinner music.
20:46 Mullens Theme BEST THEME
I´m still in Love with Feena....b.t.w. my favourite track is "Mullen".
well, how can one not like Feena? ; P
Mysticsloth
if you have an shitty translation that ruins most of the dialogue maybe ._. german version really had an bad translation through the half of the first CD (after the great wall) and then right into the second CD where all was full off... it was't good :|
*****
me too tho.. she was neat : ) well both sisters are neat in their own way. leen with wet hair looked awesome if i remember correctly.. XD that scene / picture kinda stuck to my head..
Mysticsloth
Maybe because you only see it like one time only in the game, also got a save before that :D
Mysticsloth I think we all need a Feena in our lives ;D
Best grandia ever, in concept and storyline
2.15 i always was about to cry, when this started. Grandia was my first game, and no other game was better in 16 years of gaming.
Definitely one of best things about this game, was the OST.
0:47:39 Town of Parm
Just noticed how this theme reminded me of Termina theme from Chrono Cross.
Ever since I first played this, I couldn't help but wish for a animated series.
I never managed to play this, but I've always been aware of its status as a top tier saturn/psx era rpg. Maybe some day.
Grandia HD 1&2 (August 16) 😁
1:08:30 this music ... JUST MAGICAL FOR A VIDEO GAME !
This pulls my heart strings
Nazukashii! I had to play this one through on the Saturn with a fansub sheet in my hand. It was a beautiful game for its time.
one of the best rpg ever!
I like the part where Feena beat her chest like a furious baboon and kicked in goggleboy's head.
Lol, seriously tho, I'd just sit on the title screen and just listened to the music, my 14 year old brain unable to understand the sound quality coming out of a videogame.
I think Mipha's song, from Zelda Breath of The Wild was inspired of Ancient Illusionary Castle (0:14:14)
/stands up and salutes one of the greatest RPGs of all time
